The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced this year’s Primetime Emmy nominees, and it’s been a great year for women in comedy! Three notable performers, Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), Kristen Wiig (“Saturday Night Live” and “The Looney Tunes Show”), and Lena Dunham (“Girls”), were nominated twice in different categories.
Poehler is nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category as well as the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series category.
Twenty-four-year-old Dunham is the only woman nominated in the Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series category. She is also up against Poehler in the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series category. I love “Girls!” And Lena Dunham’s feature film, Tiny Furniture.
Kristen Wiig is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on “Saturday Night Live” as well as Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for her role as Lola on “The Looney Tunes Show”.
Three of the six nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series star and/or were created by women:“Girls,” “30 Rock” and “Veep.”
Go funny ladies! What are your favorite shows?
