——————-

The closet goodies continue (congrats to last week’s closet giveaway winner)! This time I’m giving away some of my comfier pieces.

Comfy and Cozy Eco Gear Giveaway

I was gifted this deliciously soft Vaute Couture charcoal hoodie a while a back, along with this Rock My World Inc. Earth Day necklace, which was originally made out of recycled sterling silver in celebration of 2013′s Earth Day. I also never got the chance to use this adorable Sew Beastly ikat clutch made entirely out of fabric scraps. And the vintage army cap was my husband’s that he picked up at an army surplus store in Amsterdam. He put it on me one day, liked how it looked, and I’ve worn it for many years ever since.

Comfy and Cozy Eco Gear Giveaway

All of these items are super comfortable and eco-friendly, and now I’d love to find them a new home by giving them away to one lucky winner!

For your chance to win these pieces from my closet, all you have to do is leave a comment below letting me know what you consider to be the best gift you’ve ever received.

I will select and announce the winner on Wednesday, October 30.

Good luck!

Love,

The best gift I’ve ever been given was my married last name. I never considered myself a part of the family that I grew up with, so marrying into a “real” family and taking their name has been my most favorite gift ever. And come on, Spooner is a pretty awesome last name :D

The clarity and realization that I’m doing my best, that I’m learning along the way, that we all are, owning where and who I am, realizing where I used to be and who I’m not anymore- those moments where I remember… are a wonderful Gift.

The best gift I ever received was from my now hubby, but then boyfriend. Because we are originally from different countries, we met when he lived and worked in my homeland. After going out for some months and then deciding to live together he gave me for my birthday the last Harry Potter book, which I adored. But this was not the real present. Hidden inside was a ticket to visit the Netherlands and meet his family. He said that he wants me to meet them because I am the one. 6 years later and 3 years of marriage we are still happily married and I cannot imagine my world without him. This was the best gift I’ve ever received.

The best gift I ever received was after my divorce. A kind lady took me under her wing. She found out that I had been left with a great deal of debt and there was no way for me to get a loan. She went and took out a loan herself and turned around and set up a personal loan with me with all the terms. She didn’t really give me anything other than the one thing I needed most and could not get myself. She was taking a big risk and she would end up with the penalties if I didn’t follow through. Her gift left a huge impression.

The best gift I’ve had the pleasure of receiving was a trip to Colorado this summer. I got to visit my cousins who I haven’t seen in years and I went on one of the most beautiful hikes in Nederland Co. My cousin even took me to the Boulder farmers market and there was so many vegan treats. I live in the central valley of California so it was a real treat to find so many vegan options.

The best gift I ever received was from my mother… The year after my father passed away, she gave me his ‘ditty bag’. It was the bag that he kept all of his grooming stuff in… his aftershave, his hair cream, his deodorant, shaving cream, comb and razor. My dad had a very unique scent. When you lose someone dear to your heart, you miss the smell of them. I would open that ditty bag and inhale deeply and suddenly my dad was there with me. It couldn’t have been just one item… they had to all inner-mingle in order to really represent my dad. I gave the ditty bag to my son a few years ago so that he could recreate the same experience because he missed his grandpa so much. <3

Years ago in high school, I was sick with mono and hadn’t been out of the house in a week or two. My best friend and boyfriend-at-the-time stopped by and brought me my favorite ice cream, homemade cards, books I’d wanted to read, and other feel better presents. I was absolutely touched and I’ve never forgotten their simple and sweet kindness.

So, I have to say the best gift I’ve received was just a couple weeks ago, when my boyfriend asked me to marry him (!!) and presented me with a beautiful antique ring that was passed down from his GREAT-Grandmother. That is really two amazing gifts in a single package. I get to marry my very best friend AND wear a beautiful piece of his family history. <3

The best gift that I ever receive is God. He changed me to a person that He wanted me to be. He helped me to forgive with those people who did wrong to me. He gave me a second chance to live in a godly life and allow to share this with others. He helped me to love people unconditionally (which is the AGAPE LOVE). And most of all, He gave me the Salvation that I don’t even deserve it… And that’s why God is the best gift that I ever had!

The best gift I have ever received was a Fitbit on my last birthday. I was really feeling down and wanted something to motivate me to do more, be more active. My aunt bought me a Fitbit One, at first I was really surprised that in a normal day I was walking no more then 2000-3000 steps a day! Somehow I had convinced myself that I was moderately active…boy was I wrong. I slowly got my steps up to 10,000 steps a day and I feel so much better about myself.

Needless to say the Barbie car broke and eventually went to the trash. But the lil bunny now belongs to my 3yr old as a keepsake of my stepdad who passed when i turned 12 of cancer. The best gift I ever received was probably anything from my grandma. Her stuffed cat, I called Sammy, who I slept with every Friday night (I slept over at her place for 15 years in my childhood). She gave me him before she died. After she passed I was given her doll that she kept in her bed and was in her casket when she died and her afghan that she crocheted (she crocheted one for each of us during her life, but this one was her own that she kept warm with). She passed away this summer at 96, I was taking care of my boyfriend after his surgery (he lives in the US, I’m from Canada) and missed saying good-bye to her by a few hours… something I’ll regret forever.

My husband often reads out loud to me whatever he may be reading at night before bed. We have now been married for five years. For our first wedding anniversary, we decided to not buy gifts for each other, but my husband decided to make me something instead. In the tradition of paper as a first anniversary gift. My husband wrote me a story. It was an adventure about me and our dog in the park beside our house. He got a friend of ours to illustrate it. My favorite part of his gift is when he read it to me as its the best thing in the world is to hear his voice before sleeping. It was the greatest gift I ever received, because I could both see, hear and feel his love for me. : )

Still photos have always given me pleasure. Hundreds of moments captured in time, a collection of family events. When my kids were grown, they shared their appreciation by pitching their money together and buying me a Video camera. Best gift I ever got!

Wow… there are so many to choose from, but the best was getting a 2nd chance in life… once we had it all, then lost everything and ended up homeless for a couple of years… took some time, but we are slowly getting back on our feet. We have jobs, a home (rented), food and a life… now we are returning the favor by helping others by renting rooms in our home for those who need help and a 2nd chance too. Best gift we could ever get.

The most heart-felt gift I ever received was my engagement ring and the unique little pear wood box it came in. My partner had my ring custom made by an Etsy seller who fashioned rose gold to resemble the buds of a sprig of lavender. The box it came in – what I refer to as the special fairy box – was custom crafted by another Etsy seller out of reclaimed pear wood. It opened up like a little storybook, and was engraved with leaves and a special request :-) I consider these items to be my favorite gifts because when they were given to me, I realized how well my partner knew and loved me. I couldn’t have envisioned a more perfect gift for myself, even if I had been asked to do so.

    The best
gift I’ve been given is my son. And he was given to me twice. They told me that
I couldn’t get pregnant, than I became pregnant to the perfect time.

    My
boyfriend didn’t want to have kids, so I had to decide, my boyfriend or the
    baby.

    This was
    the easiest decision ever.

But the night of his birth was the best night and the following day the worst
    day in my life.

At the early morning they found out that he was born with a congenital heart
defect. They told me that everything will be ok if he gets a surgery.

    But in this
situation you cannot believe them. You hope, but you cannot believe…

Every day I was standing at his bed and at night I was pumping milk, calling
the intensive care unit to ask for him and I was crying.

The feelings inside me have been like more than ~ x the worst lovesickness you
    can imagine.

    I never
felt something like this before. I was thinking about the few hours after his
birth, the few hours I could hold him in my arms. Should this be the only time
    we would have together?

After three days they told me that they will section me to the women’s hospital
if I’m not willing to rest 2-3 hours a day. I had a beginning intoxication
    after birth.

Than at day six my son got his 10 hour surgery.

    They told
me that we would have to stay at the hospital for more than six weeks, but he
was getting better so fast that we could leave the hospital at the day as he
was three weeks old. This was the day as he was given to me the second time.

Now he is five years old and allowed to stay away from his controlling
cardiologist for one and a half years. He can live a 99% normal life.

He is the best gift I’ve been given, and I’m thankful for him every day, even
if it is really hard to be single and nearly 100% working mum. I love
    him more than my life.

The greatest gift for me was being able to be with my mom (along with my brother and sister) the last two days of her life. My sister had put all of our home movies, circa 1967-1975, on dvd. She brought them with her when my brother called us and told us to get to the hospital asap that it would be any day….the three of us kids sat with my mom who was not conscious at all, and watched those movies and laughed and cried…I know my mother knows we were there and could hear our laughs and our cries…and felt us holding her hand and telling her we loved her as she took her last breath.

The best gift I ever received was the gift of…veganism! Truly, it was a gift. Living as a minor with my parents when I became vegan, it was an incredible gift that my parents gave me, to be supportive of me through this journey, even when they didn’t quite understand. It has taught me so much. I’ve been vegan for three and a half years now and it has been the best gift I could ever have asked for. It has taught me how to have love and compassion, not only for animals, for the earth, and for my fellow human beings, but also to have love and compassion for myself. On my bad days, I know that I can sit and reflect on what it means to be vegan, what it means to live with as much kindness and compassion and love as is possible, and I know that as long as I listen to my inner truth and return time and time again to the very principles that led me to veganism, everything will be okay. To me, that is the greatest gift of all.

The best gift besides my family of course it my wedding ring. It was given to me by my husband’s mother this year before our wedding. It was very special to her as it was her wedding ring over the years and it was made from diamonds that belonged to her mother. It is so special and meaningful to me now and I will treasure it always and someday pass it on to my daughter.

Not only was I completely knocked off of my feet by how much I wanted to give them and be there for them. How absolutely stunned at the amazing thing my husband and I had made but I wanted to be the best me for them. I wanted to show them what it looks like to be 100% you all the time and that life is good, people are good and they are the most precious things in all the world. Coco and Clementine were the best gifts I’ve ever received. Thanks for the giveaway Alicia! XO Meg

Freedom is given, I just had to realise this gift. For a very long time, I felt trapped in my body, mind and soul. I felt like nothing I did was up to “my” standards and I was always preaching freedom like it is something that I need to attain. Truth is, all I had to do was to let go of my preconceptions on freedom and just feel it. I feel free through food, and it led me to you to learn much more, Alicia. Thank you!

I thought a lot about this question and I think the best gift is choice. I live in a place where I can choose who I marry, where I can work and when to have children. I can also choose my own lifestyle. My environmentally conscious way of life is supported by my community!
