Last week, my husband and I were skiing in Taos, and after we cleaned up from being on the slopes all day, we headed out to meet friends for drinks and dinner at our favorite Northern New Mexican restaurant, Orlando’s, and we finished up at Taos Mesa Brewing Company to see John Popper live. We had no idea it would be John Popper performing! Such a treat!

Hi Alicia. My husband and I recently drove to Portland from the coast to have a fun night out. It’s been months since we been able to because we home school our two teenage daughters and very rarely have alone time. We first spent some time and took a nice, long walk at Mt.Tabor Park. We had a wonderful dinner at the Vita Cafe and had the Oven Roasted Vegetable Lasagna you recommended on your “Our Vacation in Portland” blog. After that we headed to Salt & Straw for dessert. It was a wonderful fun night out and look forward to the next one.

    Hi Alicia!
Ever since I left my job as a barber, I’ve felt a
big loss in terms of the day-to-day interactions that made me feel a
part of my community. I decided to take a chance by going on-line to
find a Vegan meet-up group for a potluck. I was nervous about going
to a unfamiliar location alone where I’d now nobody. Now I’m so happy
I took the chance. I shared my avocado chocolate pudding with
like-minded folks, and they shared their delicious vegan food and
recipes with me. We talked about problems in the world, and suddenly
I didn’t feel so alone anymore. As I looked around the environment, I
saw something bigger. I had a epiphany! A festival of people like us
getting together. Since that day, I have decided to dedicate my time
to plan a Vegan Festival for this summer. Called “Compassion
Fest”, It will promote vegan crafters, artists, performers,
musicians & food vendors. Thanks for reading.

Hmmm…I guess my lack of recall of a fun night out reveals my “homebody-ness”!! Well, winning this outfit would give me a great excuse to go out with my husband and look cute at the same time! Thanks, Alicia!

The most fun night out that I’ve had recently was going to church with my husband. I know it doesn’t sound enjoyable, but for us it was. We’d both been working a lot around the holidays and hadn’t spent much time together. When we both had the night off, we decided to go to a local service–and I got to hear his amazing singing voice again. Afterward, we shared some Chinese food and spent some quality time enjoying being with each other. Thank you for the giveaway!

Fun night with my husband of only 4 months last Friday. Dinner with my son who was in town and my parents then date night at Off Broadstreet in Nevada City. It was perfect. This outfit would be perfect for my next date night.

My son took me to see ‘The Lion King’. It was a magical
night. He had told a couple of friends we were going so they got tickets also.
We ended up making a great night, with close friends and some new
acquaintances. I don’t get to go out a lot, as I have no car, my truck
broke down, and I receive disability, very little. ….I’ve had 8 back
operations, a total hip replacement, a plate put in my neck due to herniated
discs, a tumor on my right leg above my knee. I was told I would never walk
again, and 16 years ago was given a wheelchair. It is still in my storage shed.
I was riding a bicycle every other day, but the doc was afraid I might fall, so
now I ride a stationary bike every day, and am still walking. I have two wonderful sons,
and the one surprised me with the Lion King tickets for my (59th) birthday. It
was a great night. I like to encourage young and old alike to never give
up…It may hurt, but endure through it, and you will be the better for it..I
was a gymnast with winning a spot to tryout for the Olympics, many many years
ago. My spinal surgeon informed me that that is what had weakened my spine. But
    I will never give up…….

Hi! A fun night I had recently was teaching a vegan cooking class through the Inland Empire vegan meet up group on meet up.com I taught the group how to make the “naughty and nice” enchilada casserole from the Oh She Glows blog and I made brown rice krsipy treats from The Kind Diet for dessert. I would love to win this outfit and wear it to my next fun vegan meet up!

My nights out are not typical! I’m a mom of 5 under 6 years old! Last night we got out for my brothers birthday at my parents house!!! I had so much fun laughing with my siblings & eating comfort food! <3

My husband and I had a great night out recently – we took a drive down to Little Ethiopia on Fairfax Avenue and visited a 100% Vegan Ethiopian restaurant: Rahel Ethiopian Vegan Cuisine. Ethiopian food is always delicious, but it was wonderful to be able to order absolutely anything off of the menu. Their Vegan Feast is a great sample platter that let’s you try all of their dishes, and they have authentic tables and decor for you to really enjoy the experience. Don’t forget the Ethiopian Coffee at the end of the night!

  • Monica

Tonight was a fun night. My Dad and I took my Mom out to dinner for her birthday at a vegan restaurant SHE chose, and she’s not even vegan. She just loves the noodles and yummy vegetable dishes there.

Great giveaway! And I have to say I just love your blog, I only recently found it, but have gone back and checked out tons of articles. We just had a fun night this past weekend. We all (my husband and 2 boys and me) camped in the basement. The boys love that we got to stay up late and all sleep in the same room.

Hi Alicia! My 5 year old daughter Indianna and I spent a fantastic evening with friends and their children. Simply playing and being silly, dancing, eating chocolate mousse pie and planning our next get together. All the best to you! Dana

Last Saturday my husband and I went mountain biking. It was such a beautiful day, saw lots of wild life! After a long bike ride, we went to dinner at Lemongrass Thai Bistro in Macon, GA. It’s been really tough to find any restaurant in Middle Georgia that has vegan options. But we found one! Yay!! :) After a wonderful meal, we went to a symphony of The Rolling Stones music. It was a great performance! We try to make sure we have a date night every weekend after a long week of work. Keeps us motivated! :)

Last Sunday night was my Dad’s 87th Birthday. Most of us don’t live close to him anymore and there are 6 of us in all. So my brother Steve went to see him and sent us all a text photo of them together. This started a lively group conversation, laughing and joking and even planning our next family gathering in Estes Park Colorado. Even though I never left my couch – this was so much fun and would have beat out any night out I’d have had lately.
Nothing like family to understand life in a way nobody else can!

The other night my boyfriend and I went to a pot luck for a friend’s birthday party. We spent time with so many of our friends that we so rarely get to see between work and school and everything in between. We brought vegan cookies that were gone so quickly (toasted pecan, Sweet & Sara marshmallows, and carob chip cookies!) and one of our friends made a giant pot of vegan lentil soup that was just fantastic. Bonfire, a silly pinata, and catching up with good friends. It was fantastic.

My husband and I had ‘date night’ last week Friday – this was the first time we have done this since before Thanksgiving! We drove over 4000 miles over the holiday season in order to spend time with family, but it was nice to do a quiet evening – just the two of us.We had a blast!
Thanks for the giveaway – I love your stuff!

My brother, cousins and I took my Grandma out over the weekend for her 83rd birthday. She is a full time care taker for my Grandpa and rarely gets the chance to get out without him. But, we were able to take her on a brewery tour to sample all local beers – she told us that it is one of the best birthday’s she has ever had.

    Dear Kind Mama (Alicia),

This past Saturday night I went out with friends in Santa Cruz. We started with dinner at the Crepe Place. I had the most delicious crepe with avocado, garlic, onions, cheese, asparagus and sun dried tomatoes. We then went across the street to see the Wood Brothers perform at the Rio. This sweet little venue is the perfect place to see a concert. They serve tea and coffee and cookies and it’s a civilized crowd rocking to good tunes! We had so much fun and I was home in my comfy bed by 11pm. Love your blog, love your style!!! ~ cyndi

A friends 40th birthday in the woods by a big fire with friends, acoustic music, laughing, good adult drinks and staying up until 4:00a.m. Paying for it now but worth it! Moms and Dads have to play too!

  • Krystal Stone

My husbands 90s cover band Insomniac played at a bar earlier this month. That in and of itself isn’t what made it a fun night out. But that night the energy was amazing and a bunch of friends I hadn’t seen in awhile came too. I was DD so no drinking which I don’t mind but it was fun to listen to fun music while surrounded by great friends.

I went to a Festivus Party where we thumb wrestled and even got to air our grievances on a homemade soap box. I won a Hot Flash Survival Kit which I thought was the funniest thing ever.

  • Shelly Brown

I went to see the Shanghai Circus last night at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Before Shanghai Cafe did a “dinner under the stars” and had lots of yummy vegan options! We at and then went and watched this aerial circus which was crazy good. The music was awesome too! If it comes your way…I recommend it!!

  • Rachel

I had a great night out with my husband at a beautiful restaurant not too far from us. I had a giant salad with a hazelnut dressing that was so delicious!! I love it when we’re able to get away and have an evening with just the two of us!

  • Kristy

I had such a fun night out with my boyfriend. We got some pho and then just perused in and out of shops in the shopping center, laughing hysterically at all the kooky items we came across in the shops. Simple times can be the most memorable sometimes. <3

  • Jenee

I am much more likely to have a fun night ‘in’! My hubs and I have a tradition of watching Jason Statham movies and having a fruit and snack ‘picnic’ on the living room floor. When money is tight, this is our favorite thing to do! It feels like when we were first dating and is lots of fun and romantic!

Unrelated, but wanted to share: I keep The Kind Diet open in my kitchen, on a book stand, and this morning eating oatmeal I was standing there reading about how when you eat healthy, your body goes back to normal – I have been sick for a couple of weeks and I JUST cleaned everything up yesterday and WHAM, today I feel a lot more like myself. Crazy how that works! You said it surprises you every time and it happens every single time. It lets me know that vegan is a good diet to follow!

  • Kirsten Antony

We recently ate at a restaurant named linger. The name comes from Olinger mortuary. Yes, this is a restaurant that is housed in a former mortuary. A bit macabre, but the ultimate in repurposing a building! They have a delicious global menu with lots of vegan choices and a fun and funky atmosphere. We had a great time!

  • LeanneSouthall

Always love learning about new Peta-approved companies! My recent fun night out was with mamas from our holistic preschool. Keeping costs down, we met at one of our homes, and vegan-snacked and laughed, sharing wild stories of pre-parenting selves! As for a fun weekend to come, our family are heading out to Farm Sanctuary’s Valentine’s Day! Perhaps some Deux Lux will accessorize me that day, if I’m lucky! Thanks for sharing!

  • Moya

I hoping that your new year is starting out great During the holidays my husband and I went out driving around and looking at the beautiful Christmas lights. I know to some people this might not be anything special, but with his job he is gone a lot, and Christmas is my favorite, so getting to and having the time to get together and go and do this is really special to me Thank you for your post, and have a nice day!

My fun night out recently was on New Years Eve. My best friend and I went to Shojin in Culver City for their special vegan sushi tasting! 8 different kind of sushi, unlimited wine, and the most decadent vegan dessert I’ve ever had! Everyone at Shojin was so warm, welcoming and generous. It made for a perfect evening!

Thanks for sharing information on great cruelty free clothing companies. I am always looking after everyone else, my dog, or other people’s animals (my job) I rarely have time to research or splurge on items that will make me feel good about myself. I recently had a great night out at a bar with my dog Hemingway. I live in Brooklyn and have always wanted to take him to one. We have gone on many outings before together such as a baseball game and a scavenger hunt, but this was our first at a bar. We had a great time. :-)

A local theater screened Beaches recently, I went with some of my girlfriends and we cried like babies! We all hadn’t seen that movie that in years and it was such a fun time.

Hi! My best friend was really homesick one day, so we went out that night to all the thrift stores and night flea markets around the city finding anything we could that would remind her of Louisiana: chicken-shaped tea pots, old-style dollies, and fresh Southern food! It was such a fun night out without having to get all dressed up. Thanks for the giveaway :)

Our last fun night out was to a comedy show. Its a bit of a tradition for us now something we look forward to once a year. I am already looking forward to the next one!

  • Cheryl

My recent night out was actually an afternoon out. We have triplet infants so we don’t get many “nights” out. My husband surprised me by driving me up to LA for a vegan cooking class at Spork foods! They had a special guest, the two cooks from Thug Kitchen as well! It was a great surprise. It was such a nice time to get away just my husband and me! We cooked a Thai red curry, lentil lettuce wraps, and a hazelnut spread with berries. Such a wonderful surprise and it recharged me for taking care of the babies!

  • Christy Qualin

Fun night out was going to Rhe Nutcracker ballet before Christmas with my daughter. She is 28 and we’ve gone nearly every year since she was 6.

  • Lauren Uter

My husband and I spent our Saturday night enjoying the sights and sounds of the French Quarter followed by some Gumbo Z’herbs at the Gumbo shop

My fiance’ and I went to our local town hall to see some bands play. The first few weren’t that great and you couldn’t hear the singers over the music. We almost left, but we were both glad we didn’t. A really cool band came on and it was like being at a real concert. They were awesome! We had a really good time. We bought their t shirts CD and got autographs after the show. They drove up from another state and I hope they come back. It was a great night and the energy in the room with that band was amazing. The lead singer was so professional and energetic and just great at what he did. I hadn’t had that much fun in a long time :)

We had a great night out during a work holiday party to a comedy club last month. It’s so much fun to get dressed up and go out!

Two nights ago I had a Scrabble/Wine night with my older sister who was visiting from out of town. The game got pretty intense; sibling rivalry does not wane with age an distance! I won, so it was a fun night. :)

I recently got together with a friend of mine. We actually met for the first time in person. We’ve known each other from connecting in the Barbie Fan Club (for adult Barbie Collectors), and we’re also Facebook friends. Anyway, she moved to Chicago from Florida, so we spent a few hours enjoying Downtown Chicago, getting to know each other, and we each brought a Barbie doll. A woman approached us, saying that our get together looked fun, so we had her take our picture. :)

  • Alexis

We recently moved to Boulder, CO from San Francisco. I met a group of lovely moms at my daughter’s school. We went out last weekend for wine. We planned to be out for two hours and all told our husbands and kiddos we would be back to put them to bed. We ended up having so much fun, we stayed out for five hours!

omg, i’m in love! i have a wallet that says, “everything will be ok” that i’ve had for about 4 years now. the zipper is broken, but i have not replaced it yet because i can’t imagine another being so special and i do not carry a purse. the outfit is so perfect because i never get dressed up, but love this casual fun look. we’re off to disney in 2 months and this would be perfect. a recent fun night…. we took our 3 boys, 10, 8 and 20 months on a spur of the moment trip to martha’s vineyard! we were able to book a hotel in the off season and after driving 3 hours and taking a ferry to the island we checked into our room around 7 p.m.. the boys went for dinner, i pumped and put the baby to bed and then we sat in the room in our p.j.’s and talked about how we were going to spend our 1 day on the island! we let the kids stay up til 10 p.m. ! it was so sweet. thanks alicia for the opportunity for this great giveaway!

Spa day in santa barbara – it was a weekend outing :) we got to dress up and go out to dinner and be a veg during the day.

  • Monica

My last outing was actually a day outing. My family came down to New Orleans from Maryland to visit my boyfriend and I. We went to the Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, LA. It’s the largest free roaming scanctuary. We took a private tour around the grounds. We got to hand feed animals such as giraffes, llamas, zebras and deer. There are several species that live there and since they are used to humans we were able to take lots of pictures and selfies. :) Such an awesome experience!

On Saturday, January 10, my boyfriend took me out to dinner at Red Lobster for my annual crab leg birthday dinner. I had a wonderful time getting out of the house as I don’t feel well enough to go anywhere most of the time. Thank you for your generosity, you have a beautiful soul.

I recently had foot surgery and was more or less homebound. My three children 25, 23 & 20 came over and we played monopoly. They spared me no mercy and the youngest made out like a bandit. Of course, he was the only one not drinking wine or beer. There is nothing like having your children near no matter what their ages.

I’m doing a 3 week new years Resolution Challenge detox through For the Glow, so my last fun night out was New Years Eve. Went to a friends house, ate good food, counted down to midnight and took several embarrassing pictures in their make shift photo booth. Here’s to 2015. Thanks for the chance to win. :)

I had the most wonderful time connecting with a new-to-me vegan restaurant called “Mothers” in Austin with my sweetie a few nights ago!! The food really hit the spot and the company was wonderful. It’s quite strange being with a partner who isn’t vegan, while I myself have been vegan for over 5 years, and all because of The Kind Diet I might add! Hearing Alicia talk about being kind will always be my telling moment when I knew the next step for me was going vegan! But the more that my sweetie and I enjoy yummy food together, the more I know that all is good in the world. He loves the food, I of course, love the food, and one day soon, I think he’ll have his “Alicia” moment, like I did over 5 years ago!!! <3

  • Tyneisha

I had a fun night out recently with the hubby and kids, looking for a new place to eat. We finally settled on pizza!

  • Heather

Last weekend my husband and I went to a dinner party at a friends house who we recently got back in touch with after not seeing each other for a few years. My husband and I are the only ones in our huge group of friends who are vegan and our friend went out of her way to make dinner so we could eat too, and not just salad. It was a wonderful night.

My husband and i went out to eat at sunflower vegetarian restaurant in Fair Oaks Ca. They are our favorite place to eat when the weather is nice. Afterwards we walk around and enjoy old Fair Oaks.

So, it wasn’t a night out, technically, but a few girls and I recently had a clothing swap together. I have a bit of social anxiety, so I was a little worried it wouldn’t go well, but it ended up being SUPER fun and the other girls were SO nice! It was a great way to have a fun girl’s night but not spend a bunch of money. In the realm of going out, however, we did have a funny idea that the next time we have a clothing swap, we do it on a Friday night, and each girl has to come up with an outfit to wear out afterward with the items that nobody wanted. We all had a good laugh about it, because some of the pieces each of us were getting rid of were not stellar–ie that weird cropped blazer that was on sale and might be stylish with….something? Anywho, it was a blast, and I can’t wait to do it again!

This past weekend, my hubby and I were able to have some fun ice skating at a local outdoor rink and so fun. I can’t remember the last time, I had ice skated and I don’t think my husband had ice skated since he was a kid. We were the most graceful but survived with no bruises. Then Saturday evening, we joined about 25 others to help celebrate a 50th birthday party (not mine!) for a friend and we all rode a bus and went to a Piano bar in downtown KC and had a blast. Singing and dancing all night and staying out way past my bed time. Fun with friends and each other all weekend
