    Right now I am pregnant, in my first trimester and seriously battling nausea. Several times a day I sit or lay down with my hands over my belly and picture the amazing future I am about to have with my first child. I think of playing outdoors in the sunshine with my baby.     I find myself relaxing while nursing my 18 month old son, we lay down on the bed and look out the window together or just close our eyes. When ever my son is taking a nap, I like to take advantage of the moment and stretch or lay down flat on the ground to do a few breaths. I am sure there is a fun yoga term for this but I don’t know the name. :-) I recently bought some lavender soy candles that I am so excited to light before bedtime so we can relax ! My husband travels for work at least two weeks a month so I really find myself feeling over whelmed when he is gone. I ask my family for help or I just expect less of myself during those times and try to just focus on nourishing my sons mind and heart. I have to say that my special juice I make everyday that consists of cabbage, ginger, kale, beets, carrots, celery, cucumbers and what ever else was green and on sale that week really helps me have the energy and balance I need to stay calm, balanced and gentle even in trying times.     I live with my inlaws at the moment and with two teenagers who just got engaged….yea, its a bit hectic to say the least, add one 6 month old and we have a party. Thats 7 people total in this house (crazy). We moved in to save money for a house and in the middle of everything I changed jobs then christmas hit. These days to keep the stress to an all time low, I usually kidnap my husband and kid and go for drives to the coast or I go to a movie by myself, whatever it takes. Self care is so important to be able to function in my life so I work really hard at taking those moments to be centered, focused and present and not feel guilty for making sure I can be the best wife and mommy I can be.

    Personally, the best way to unwind is through the practice of yoga. It reinvigorates your sense of self with the ability to connect back to living a kind life.     My favorite way to unwind is by spending time with my two dogs. Penny Lane, a toy Australian shepherd, and Tahoe, and German shepherd that I rescued, are by far the most calming beings in my life, and their souls provide me with so much unconditional love. I know that I can come to them at any time and receive love with open paws. I love to spoil them and give back some of the unconditional love they show me, although I’m sure I could never repay them. As I write this, they are on either side of me asleep, and Penny Lane is snoring as she lays on my foot.     I unwind in a couple of ways. A quick bout of yoga definately helps, but having my furkids help me with my yoga practice always eases any lingering tension. It is just way too difficult to stay stressed and tired when you have 2 greyhounds doing downward facing dog right next to your downward facing dog, or having one of the kittehs curl up in a ball on your chest when you are in corpse pose. I’m not sure my yoga teachers would appreciate my giggle fits when I am supposed to be ending my practice with a nice meditation, but meditating with 3 dog heads in my lap is a bit silly, and soothing.

    I have been a vegetarian for six years and after reading The Kind Diet I realized my lifestyle needed to be revamped so I became a Vegan and have been for six months now. Wow! What a difference it has made. I feel so much better physically and mentally. My husband and I are talking about selling our home in two-three years so we buy property for a farm to rescue more animals.

To feel more motivated, I may chose a quote, phrase, or reading that I am touched by as a theme for my writing.     Oh I do so many things. Having a self care ’emergency’ list can be so important – a few things you can turn to to wind down or return to calm during stressful times.     On very stressful days, it is good to stop and deep breathe and focus on what is my purpose and mission. Later in day, a nice, warm bath helps me to relax for a good night’s sleep.

    Concourse a long soak in the bath is my favorite but not always possible, 2nd I have learned to do yoga breathing of the mat it instantly calms me and helps me focus!

    I like to put on some comfy clothes, put on some soothing music and do some slow and purposeful stretching then make a lovely cup of chamomile tea. I also like to visit with my chickens and ducks, watching them is very enjoyable and relaxing!

    When I want to unwind, I treat myself like an absolute goddess and INDULGE. I encircle my man with a deep, long, meaningful hug, take a hot bath while I braid my hair, scrub my entire body, and enjoy whatever book I’m reading, and I spend quality time with my kitchen creating. Usually my stress is caused by my own pointless anxieties, so to me, staying balanced 100% starts from within. The only way to beat the stress of every day and to stay grounded is to remind myself that I deserve my own attention before anything or anyone else does.

    When I am in need of unwinding and need some calm in my life… which is everyday… I hug my sons. They are 5 and 2. Of all the things I’ve done in my life, and of all the people I know, having them reminds me how much of a miracle life is and most of the time I am in awe of them! They truly are the best reminders in life of just how precious this life is! So, that being said we hug and cuddle and laugh. That centers me. That calms me! Looking at them, knowing that they came from me and that I’m responsible for these beings makes me feel so special! It really centers me! I feel blessed… Busy, tired BUT amazingly blessed!

    After a long stressful day I love to put on a record, one that makes me wanna dance like The Best of Cream, and just try to remind myself to not take things too seriously and to enjoy life! Sometimes it helps to write out what I’m feeling. Seeing it on paper and trying to explain it to myself usually makes me realize how stressing out about some things is doing more harm than good!

    Yoga and meditation: having these two things be part of a regular daily practice has really helped with managing my stress and anxiety. When things get VERY hectic, sometimes that routine gets kind of wobbly – in which case listening to my favorite kirtan music, or spending just a few minutes visualizing and breathing – lower effort variations of yoga/meditation – can really help.
