You know by now how much I love PCRM and Dr. Neal Barnard. Well, he's written a new book.
The 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart helps retrain your taste buds to like the foods that are the most nourishing for your body.
The book is easy to read and understand, especially for flirts and anyone with the primary goal of losing weight. It gives you the basics and could be great for newbies.
The 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart is available on Amazon in paperback, hardcover and kindle editions.
My mother-in-law has done the 21-Day Kickstart program and seems to really like it. And of course, I also encourage you to read The Kind Diet for yummy recipes to make as you flirt with committing to a plant-based or superhero lifestyle.
Have you tried the 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart? Have you read the book? What did you think? Share your experience in the comments below!

Hi SparklingStarwoman,
Gina Kolata and Dr. Dean Ornish addressed the issue of exercise. If you are sedentary, then just 30 minutes of walking most days will make a huge difference in fitness and health (not the same thing). In terms of health, moderate exercise is about the same as vigorous exercise. For health, just pick an aerobic exercise that you enjoy and don't over do it.
Dr. Neal Barnard advocates a "whole plant based" diet that is low in processed ingredients. For people who tend to overeat, it helps emensely. Dr. Joel Fuhrman points out that most Americans consume only 5% of their diet by calorie of whole plant based foods (excluding potatos). The ideal would be 80% or more. I now eat about a pound of leafy greens each day along with legumes, whole grains, vegetables, flax seed (omega-3), and a source of B12 and D as needed. The excess fat just falls away without much effort. Dr. Neal Barnard explains while calorie restricted diet don't work from a physiological perspective. You can't fight mother nature. It's best to learn how the body works and work with it. Eating a high fiber high complex carb and high nutrition diet allows me to lose weight without counting calories. It's a permanent change to my choice of foods.

Does anyone know if you can also exercise with this? A few of the Amazon reviews state that you don't have to, but can you? I've seen a few diets where during the beginning phases you can't because your body is already going through a lot due to a cleansing and purifying stage. I'm interested in trying this but I don't want to give up my workouts :) Thanks

Dear Kind,
I'll be brief. You're a complex individual who desparately needs help with a complex issue. I pray you get it....SOON. Alicia is an accomplished actress who has been in the business more than half of her life. As such, she has played many charactors. Until she plays herself in a movie/documentary about herself, she will always be Alicia Silverstone, an actress in a movie playing a charactor written for her to act out. As with all gifted actresses/actors, they do bring a little of "themselves" to the charactor. But the charactor is not her or them!!! It's just a part of them they bring to the table because they are as good as they are. The good news is that if you read her book....I mean REALLY read it, you will get to know her a little better.
Kind Regards,
Norm

How funny, Beachbody (makers of P90x) just came out with The Ultimate Reset, a whole entire kit based on this theory and it too is 21 days. The results have been amazing from tons of my friends, I will be doing it beginning July 11th. You can see some of my friends results on my facebook page Here

Alicia, I love you for posting this info! Not so much for the 21-day quick start (which I am going to try), but getting me to check out PCRM's website. I have been making some of the changes from your book, but have been overwhelmed trying to figure out how to easily transition my 3 kids (it's not easy convincing them that Pop Tarts are not good). PCRM has some wonderful, clear, to the point information for parents. I'm so excited!
Now, if I can only get my husband on board. :-/
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
