3 Rescue Stories to Remind Us Why Animals Need Our Love

Nov 2, 2012 at 6:07am by Alicia Silverstone

These stories all have happy endings.

A Baby deer was rescued from manhole. He then scampered back into woods, hopefully to be with his mama. If you find an injured or trapped wild animal, PETA has a great guide for what to do.

Two thirsty kittens were rescued from a drainpipe at a high school in East Lansing, Michigan after the girls’ cross-country team discovered them on a morning run:

A Rottweiler puppy was rescued from a Riverside Calif. dumpster hours before the garbage truck came. He was rehabilitated and given intravenous fluids at a local animal shelter. A couple from Santa Clarita adopted him.

Please, please spay and neuter your pets!

What else can we do to prevent accidents and stories of animal neglect like this?

I vow to always help out a fellow in need.My last pet I got was a rescue pet found roaming around my workplace as a very small orphan kitten. It was a task at first to tame the pet in question as he was hungry, very scared and had little or no human contact. But after a few weeks of non stop interaction my baby kitten got better and better. What was one of the many heartbreaks is watching this poor little boy sleep while standing up and shaking alot.Once my kitten felt safe he finally fell asleep curled up in a little ball and slept for hours.xoxo

I visited a wild bird rescue center this summer and learned that many owls, hawks, and eagles get hit by cars. One big reason why that happens is that people throw food out the window of their cars (banana peels, apple cores, etc), which attract the small animals, which then attract the large birds of prey to the side of the road.

People need to be responsible, Alicia. When my family took in stray cats, we always got them spayed and neutered and always had them innoculated. My sister helps sponsor a sanctuary for horses and donkeys too. I would urge people to only get pets if you're going to look after them properly. I believe there should be stiffer penalties for cruelty to animals. These stories turned out fine in the end though! Have a great weekend, everyone, and especially Alicia! XO.

These are a few happy ending stories, but many are not.

The way to help prevent accidents and animal neglect situations is to make a point to get involved in some way at any local animal organization. This is a way to help these organizations take care of the needs of the many animals that they care for and help the animals find a good home.

Most of us care about animals. It takes a community to educate and do something to help the animals.

From my own research very few volunteers get involved and they do most of the work to save animals from the shelters that will kill healthy animals because they don't have the resources to find them all homes.

If everyone did something to help, the 4 - 5 million companion animals in the US that are killed every year could be reduced. We need to be the solution and help animals to find good homes. I encourage people to do something. Volunteer to foster, transport, donate, clean, fund raise, adoptions, walk, give them some love. There is something for everyone to help them out.

I did not mean to get on a soapbox, but these are some ways to help animals in your area. It can be very rewarding for you and for the animals.
