Recently, I went with Kind Lifer Lisa to the Arts, Beats, and Eats festival of bands and artists in Detroit. I found one artist I loved, Urban Landscapes Pottery's Laura Macntyre and I bought 4 bowls from her.

I'm so happy because I've been meaning to buy soup bowls for two years, and now I can cross it off my list. I really like them - perfect size for nabe yaki udon from my book, or for any large soup. I was so happy to find this perfect size!

Then we went to Royal Oak, as suggested by Kind Lifer Shannon Hall who told us to go to a crepe spot What Crepe - they have vegan crepes if you ask. Our waitress was vegan too, and she recommended a crepe, filled with avocado, sundried tomatoes, asparagus, spinach, mushrooms, and an orange jalepeno sauce....delicious!!! Then we shared a crazy one with chocolate, bananas, pecans, and ice cream...we went nuts clearly! I'm not sure I ultimately made the best dessert combo - don't get me wrong, it was good....but the savory crepe was delicious and I would love to have that again and again.

Our waitress also recommended the apple pie crepe, done vegan. But Lisa and I weren't feeling apple pie. Lisa came up with an idea for blueberry agave and banana - maybe next time, since you can build your own crepes!

We both left with headaches from the sugar. It was fun for a second and I'd do it again, but maybe a crepe with strawberries, fresh bananas, and pecans, but no ice cream or chocolate - a super yummy, no-headache dessert, with maybe a tiny drizzle of agave to top it off.
Has anyone been there and had the perfect combo for a sweet crepe, or do you have any other vegan crepe combo you can recommend?

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and looking and open to all information. Super Excited!!!!!!

I just went there for lunch yesterday with my boyfriend and it was incredible. I got a crepe with asparagus, red onion, spinach and cheddar cheese (my current diet plan is to save dairy for when I'm eating out, but I never eat meat. Baby steps) with that orange jalepeno sauce. My God, it was a big portion and at first I thought I would never be able to finish it, but I ate every crumb. I would go there again and again, and hopefully I will since my boyfriend just got an apartment there!

Hi All. I'm new to the site and have a lot of learning to do. I've been struggling with trying to go vegetarian/vegan on and off for quite some time now. I'm hoping that some support will make the difference. Regarding your post Alicia, about the crepes, was it vegan ice cream or do you consume dairy? Thanks for the site.

I reallllyyy need to go there! I'm still trying to get to Inn Season! Maybe this month. I'm more on the west side (grew up in Madison Heights, so very familiar with Royal Oak).
Maybe we should have a Kind - Lifer Detroit meet up one of these days!

Those bowls are beautiful.....on another note, I had to return your book to the library and I am missing it greatly. Definitely need to get my own copy and then blog about it on my gluten free blog - SO many of your recipes are either gluten free or can be adapted to be gluten free. Thanks!

Alicia,
I wanted to say thank you for your book. I've been flirting since August. In sept. I decided to go vegan and have noticed huge differences in my life. First, I almost am completely free of life long asthma symptom. I've lost about 5 lbs. and hope to lose about 5 more. You have inspired me and I want to continue in my life.

and hello heather!! so good to see a familiar face on here!
and not that it matters but it was the people's art festival in detroit, not arts beats and eats ;) and i LOVE those bowls too!

I have never noticed any symptoms from eating sugar until tonight... First night in a while that I have had ice cream, and I immediately got a headache and felt abnormal... I can't believe that I am so used to being without desserts and sugars after going Kind-Life for 6 months now!

Very, very, very jealous. Living in a country town within Australia does have it's pitfalls. Sounds as though you have heaps of restaurants to choose from around your area. Need to do a little experimentation with the hints you give about the ingredients. All sounds fantastically delicious, Mmmmmm

I am a fan of the farmers market! I shop every saturday I can in port dover, ontario. I love crepes but have never tried a savoury one...I love them with fresh fruit.

so wait, was the chocolate and ice cream vegan? if not, its encouraging to hear you have the rare cheat (but I'm sure they must have been vegan right!?)
