PCRM is working hard to end scientific experimentation on chimpanzees by supporting the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act (H.R. 1513/S. 810).
Chimps are captured from the wild at an early age, only to spend decades in cages no bigger than a kitchen table, while being subjected to cruel, invasive procedures. This would be an awful way to treat any animal, but chimps are human beings- closest cousins in the animal kingdom! How can treating them this way be legal?
Aside from the obvious ethical objections to these research practices, PCRM argues that chimps are poor models for researching human health. In fact, leading researchers don't even use chimps for experimentation (instead they use human cells). Huge pharmaceutical companies like GlaxoSmithKline and Genentech don't even experiment on chimps! And the European Union has already banned experimentation on great apes. Meanwhile, in the U.S., the federal government has spent $200 million on chimpanzee experiments in the last decade. It's wasteful, but most of all it's cruel, and it needs to end!
Help PCRM protect chimps, further ethical and scientifically sound research strategies, and save your tax dollars by signing this letter. Please personalize your letter so you can let your representatives know just how passionate you feel about this issue! Remember, politicians do read mail from their constituents, so make your letter stand out.
I feel very strongly about this issue. Let's do everything we can to help, and make it our personal mission to end this. If we all come together on this, maybe we can see some change!

I can't, i live in the UK and the thing doesn't have a country option, understandably.
But this is just amazing. If big companies like that can use human cells etc, then why on Earth are people still using Chimps? So ridiculous.
That is soo ridiculous, i'm quite passionate about this, evidently.

I just signed one of these today that is similar to the one above (I signed the one above as well)!! If you click on the link below or cut and paste it onto your browser it will bring you to a video screen. Click on the screen and it brings you to the utube video. After you are done watching the video you can click on the website that the video directs you too and sign a similar petition.

I visited the Chimposium in Ellensburg, WA and read Roger Fout's book, Next of Kin. Testing on chimpanzees does not give conclusive results (with AIDS, they couldn't give the full-blown disease to the chimps since their auto immune systems are not the same as ours). What we instead end up with are thousands of intelligent animals that have to be quarantined and housed for the rest of their lives, often in conditions we wouldn't tolerate for our pets! We owe it to our cousins to leave them in their habitat and give adequate shelter to the apes we have now without testing!

Thanks for posting this!! I sent the letter, forwarded it to some people I know, and shared the link on Facebook. Please continue to share information of things like this, as I am interested in any ways I can possibly help & try to make a difference for animals and the environment.

We need people to stand up for our countries Wild Horses too! org/ This site will tell you what our wild horses have to endure! The land is primarily wanted for cattle grazing programs and a proposed pipeline (Ruby Pipeline).
The site below tells you what the government says it's doing & then gives you the facts about what is really happening.

Wonder if they could start an international petition for those of us around the world who'd like to add our voice? I live in Australia but would love to help, as I'm sure many others would. Might be worth mentioning to them Alicia if you can - I'm sure they'd love to get the word out there internationally!

Signed and shared. Believe it it, so now a member as well. Thank you for getting this out - keep up the good fight for those who can't speak for themselves.

Thank you for bringing attention to this! I wrote my substantial paper for law school on this subject last semester, and a much shorter piece about it on my Animals & the Law blog ("Chimpanzees: Before, During, and After Experimental Use").
