The other day, I was driving back from a Clueless reunion photo shoot (stay tuned for those pics this fall). I wanted some of my new fave turtle ice cream by soy delicious, but I knew I had to work the next day, so ice cream wasn’t the best idea since sugar gives me a “hangover.” Instead, I went to Beverly Hills Juice and got the Banana Manna, an amazing smoothie made with almonds and bananas. Holy moly it was good!
Anyway, when I went there, I met a couple, Emily and Alex. They were talking to my husband, Christopher while I was outside with Bear. When they came out I started talking to them - they’d been telling Christopher about how much The Kind Diet had changed their lives. They were so cool and sweet and funny!
We parted ways, but when Christopher, Bear and I got to our car, we realized we had a flat tire. Our new friends Emily and Alex happened to be driving by, so Christopher flagged them down, and they drove me and Bear home while Christopher dealt with the tire situation.
Emily and Alex hung out with me at my house for a bit and to toast the occasion, I opened a bottle of wine. I poured just a little bit in each glass, because I rarely drink wine and when I do, I just like to sip it so a little goes a long way. They told me they also drink less now that they’re vegan. We were wondering if that’s a common thing? I think when you’re really healthy, you can’t drink as much! Maybe you don’t have as much gunk to soak it up with? Anywho, we had a nice afternoon, and it just goes to show how amazing our community is!
Why I love Beverly Hills Juice...
Emily and Alex, if you read this, I lost your number in our move. Call me to reconnect!

I don't mind drinking a glass of wine typically, but, I haven't in 7-8 months. I noticed that the more I focus on healthy eating the less I desire other beverages or foods. I think for me it's because I just physically feel better when I honor my body. I should say I'm not much of a drinker anyway. BTW I loved that Alicia was open to meeting people. So many people in her profession are very cold and distant. Even the ones who aren't that recognizable. It's very Oprah Winfrey to be this cool.) Also, I have met only two people since being at this site, but, I think this site mostly attracts genuine people who are more about living a good, clean and healthy life as oppose to "look at me" and "I'm so important" they seem to be open. I really love that! -
I thought it was just me- I'm so glad you posted this! A biologist friend told me it's not possible that my tolerance has gone down just because of diet, but I've definitely noticed a BIG difference. I drink way less for health reasons but also because I get drunk so much faster now. I'd love a scientific reason why this happens. -
Hate to be the contrarian here but I love my wine and actually since becoming vegan I feel I can drink the same amount or even more on occasion and feel great afterwards. -
I too have found that a little bit of alcohol goes a long way since going vegan. I attribute it to my body being less accustomed to the toxins & inflammation of foods like dairy & meat and therefore I'm more sensitive when I introduce other toxins like alcohol into my system. Not only does it make going out on those rare occasions cheaper, but having a lower tolerance also makes me think twice before going overboard. Instead I save the alcohol for special occasions...like meeting lovely new friends. It's great that your could help you out! ;) -
I used to be able to drink a lot without feeling it but now (after going vegan) I feel it after even 1 glass. I also don't enjoy drinking as much-probably because I feel a sort of "natural" high nowadays. -
I find that when I do drink lately that it makes me really sick. I feel like I am being poisoned, which I am. I rarely drink anymore. I recently gave away all of the alcohol that I had in my house. It's an adjustment when going out at night, but I just order water. -
I love Beverly Hills Juice too! I have also been wondering about the vegan/alcohol connection. I was never much of a drinker, but now even the smallest bit of alcohol knocks me on my butt. I'm not sure how much of it is my age or my healthy vegan lifestyle. I do know that I cannot handle the smell of meat or the taste of anything artificial since ditching those things 5 years ago. -
My boyfriend and I were just talking about this last night. Our system doesn't process alcohol very well anymore either! I think that difference is that vegans (and especially super heroes) are so used to feeling great that we feel a noticeable difference after drinking. Non-veg folks are more used to feeling bloated and icky, so they might not even notice as much how they're body is affected by alcohol! -
i've been vegan long before i turned 21 so i don't know if i was able to drink more before, but i definitely am a lightweight. i normally only have 1 drink if i'm drinking. 2 drinks is not good. :p -
I also drink less now that I'm Vegan. I-2 glasses of wine on the weekends are enough for me. I do prefer organic wines. My favorite is Patianna.
Alicia try Coconut Bliss ice cream. It's made with agave instead of sugar. It's so yummy. xo -
Drinking makes me feel AWFUL! I can't tell you how many times I've had to leave the bar because I have a blinding headache- it's this crazy headache I only get when I drink. Now I'm literally scared of alcohol, I can't even touch wine, much less my ex-beloved G&T. -
Wow, how nice of them! Lucky you ran into such considerate people.
My drinking nearly halted once I became vegan, but I think there were other things influencing that, as well. I notice now that when I do drink, it's mainly wine and not beer, and I have only 1-2 before I feel loopy. And it takes me much longer to recover than it did beforehand.
I've also found I don't crave the greasy, fatty foods I used to when I was hungover. Now I crave whole grains and other real foods that will help put my body back in balance. -
I definitely drink way less since going vegan. I only really drink when we go out to dinner & we only do that once a month at most. If I have more than 2 glasses of wine I'm toast! The main reason I don't really drink is because it makes me feel so awful! I get major headaches. I think because I eat so healthy my body isnt use to crap so it rejects it! We went to a concert 4 days ago & I had quite a bit to drink & I am still feeling crappy...4 days later! -
I find my drinking goes through stages... although now that I host vegan social events on a regular basis, the dry periods are becoming rarer!
