Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is vegan…yahoo! As one of the best running backs in the league, he has gotten flack from some of his teammates and football fans for making a kinder choice…but the Houston Texans General Manager supports him, as does the vegan community.
Foster says he did a lot of research about the protein myth and consulted with doctors before switching to a vegan diet. He joins a growing list of vegan or vegetarian professional athletes, including Venus Williams, Mike Tyson, and martial arts fighter Aaron Simpson.
I’m so happy that Arian Foster is setting a kind example for professional and aspiring athletes! What a smarty pants! I love him!
Do you think athletes like Foster will inspire other athletes to go kind?
Tell me why in the comments below!

Georges Laraque is now retired from the NHL but he is a vegan -- and he was a vegan while playing hockey (and being known as one of the toughest players in the league). His interviews about veganism are really an inspiration for any athlete considering veganism. -
@Hearty Cabbage: This website was created after Alicia wrote the book "The Kind Diet." That's why we're talking about diet. You should read the book. She has done years of research about how a plant based, whole food diet is great for your health, animals, and the environment. If you don't want to hear about a vegan diet, I think this may not be the right website for you. -
I urge you to try a vegan diet for one week. Alicia's book The Kind Diet is filled with amazing delicious and filling meals! Many athletes are vegan! Google it! -
@ HeartyCabbage
Why are you ranting on this website? It's about Vegans and being/becoming Vegan. If you would actually try the Vegan diet lifestyle you would see that you would not go hungry after an hour of eating. If you eat a variety of nuts, grains, vegetables and fruits then you will get all the nutrients your body needs. And for the statement of animals have been eaten for thousands of years... it’s the way they are treated and the impact on the environment that makes the difference. People in the USA eat way way to much meat as it is. -
I hope it does convince others. The part about him `getting flack`was particularly disturbing. I`ve never known that anyone needed to be a carnivore to play sports. -
Yes, Mr. Foster will inspire more athletes and public figures to adopt a kind diet.
Kudos to him and others that are joining the vegan movement.... -

I absolutely believe Mr. Foster is setting a very cool example. Players in the NFL are under some kind of other-worldly belief that football and beef go hand-in-hand. I think there are a lot more vegetarians/vegans in the NFL than we know - some players are just maybe a little intimidated by the locker room and the league. However, as players DO come forward --I feel that sloooowly.. they will break down the stereotypical barriers that go with football and the traditional S.A.D. diet (Standard American Diet). I am so proud to see that Arian Foster has admitted to his veganism - and he did it the smart way - he did his homework first -- because as a professional athlete, he body uses huge stores of nutrients, so it will be vital for him and his personal trainer (or whomever) to make sure he gets what his body needs. Hats off to Arian Foster -- truly a man---among men. -
I think it is great. My son loves football and I know he is more like a vegan so I will tell him about Arian that he is plant eater too like him. As he loves dinosaurs especially the plant eaters, he wants to be like them. -
