Kidding…sort of! I’m looking forward to starting rehearsals for a new play on Broadway this fall called The Performers. It’s a romantic comedy about two high school friends who reconnect at the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas. I’ll be joining a great cast including Henry Winkler, Jenni Barber, Daniel Breaker, Ari Graynor, and Cheyenne Jackson (you may know him from 30 Rock). Previews start October 23. Those of you who are in NYC (or who will be this fall) can get tickets here!
This means I’m moving my family to New York for 5 months! If there is a spare moment, where must I go while I'm in NYC?

Green Symphony is a veg-friendly spot in the theater district - 43rd btwn 7 & 8th, closer to 8th Ave!
The Juice Press, Organic Ave for juice/raw, Angelica & Caravan of Dreams are some East Village faves :) -
Alicia!! If you haven't already, you've got to try "Peacefood Cafe", http://www.peacefoodcafe.com/. It opened in 2009. It's one of those places even non-vegans love! -
The most delicious vegan pizza and other vegan entrées are at John's of 12th Street:
(302 East 12th Street)
http://www.johnsof12thstreet.com/
ANOTHER amazing vegan pizza place resides on the lower east side, called Viva Herbal, which is on 179 2nd Ave between 11th and 12th. They also have many a vegan dessert!
ENJOY and break a leg! -
You have to find the cinnamon snail food truck in Manhattan (follow their twitter for their location). And Happy Buddha Vegan Kosher restaurant in Queens! Alice's Tea Cup's vegetarian options are delish along with their sometimes vegan scones. -
I still find NYC to be a bit annoying when it comes to vegan living. Not as veg-friendly as I've found in other cities. I'm a west village girl so I try to keep my focus in that area. But here are some staples and tips...
PIZZA: "Slice" on Hudson between Perry and Charles. Order herb crust and load up veggies!
FOOD CART: "The Dosas Guy" (It's what I call him..SOOOO GOOD!!) W 4th Street and Sullivan Street at Washington Sq
RESTAURANT: "Blossom" on Columbus between 82nd and 83rd
OR "Dirt Candy" on E 9th between 1st Ave and Ave A
ICE CREAM: "Lula's Sweet Apothecary" on E 6th Between Ave A and B
JUICE: "Juice Generation" on w 4th between Jones and Cornelia (good snacks too!)
FOOD STORE: NEVER go Whole Foods in NY... It's NUTS! Try Health and Happiness on Hudson between Barrow and Grove. It's a hidden treasure! They also sell my favorite drink-Turmeric Alive: Elixir of Life. It's a yummy local elixir!
GUILTY PLEASURE RESTAURANT: Quantum Leap on Thompson between w 3rd and Bleecker. It's a vegetarian restaurant and burger joint- not everything is vegan but their vegan burgers and vegan spaghetti and "meat"balls hit the spot!
MUST GO: Check out David's Tea on Bleecker between Jones and Cornelia! My best friend works there and I'm addicted. Ask for Roger! -
I've always wanted to try KAJITSU. Maybe for a special treat you could take your family there.

STOGO for the BEST vegan ice cream. it's a cute little ice cream shop owned by Kyra Sedgewick's brother. -
Alicia ... definitely check out HanGawi, its Vegetarian Korean and AMAZING!! Its on 12E 32nd St (5th & Madison). www.hangawirestaurant.com. Must try the Hot Ginger Tea and Veggie Hot Stone Bowls! My favorite! Everytime I visit for work, I treat myself here, So Delish! XO -
Hi Alicia! So excited for you to be in NY for awhile - can't wait to follow along to see what vegan amazingness you find (and share with us) while you're here!
Would love it if you report back on the best places to pick up your fave vegan beauty products. I always have such a hard time finding great products outside the basics I find at Whole Foods...which are fine, but I'm constantly on the hunt for something a little more fun and unique! I just picked up your Juice Beauty cleanser and moisturizer from the Ulta in Queens - my skin loves them and the packaging is beautiful too! -
I would go to Babycakes for some great vegan cupcakes, matt and nat's store, and mooshoes for a start. Maybe see some sights like the Statue of Liberty etc. -

Awesome, Alicia! Good luck on your new play! I got to see you in "Times Stands Still" on Broadway, and will definitely come see you in this new play - sounds great! I live in Pennsylvania now, but I won't miss a chance to see you again. I'm your "Metta Prayer necklace" buddy, remember? (; Thanks for all you do to lead others to a "Kind Life"!!! (((HUGS))) -
So excited that you will be joining us in NYC! You took me from flirt to Vegan so EASILY! Next move - Superhero! Come visit us in the very laid back borough of Staten Island. It's not all VH1 Mob Wives, despite our reputation. Take Bear on a Ferry ride and when you get here, come to the Snug Harbor Cultural Center. It's a beautiful place with several museums including a great Children's Museum you'll all enjoy and the Staten Island Botanical Gardens and Chinese Scholars Garden. End the day with a meal at Vida (not all Vegan - just delicious and I personally love the brown rice lentil cake) on Van Duzer Street or a bagel with Hummus and some homemade veggie soup at the "Everything Goes" book cafe. ETG is a great little used book store with organic fair trade coffee, wifi and computers and lovely homemade vegetarian light fare. -
Hi Alicia, come to the Walk For Farm Animals on October 20th. My eight year old daughter Paige would love to see you. This is our 2nd year attending and she is very excited! Also good luck with your new play! -
The Cinnamon Snail Vegan Food Truck. Just won best Vegan Food Truck award- you won't regret it! -
The Cinnamon Snail Vegan Food Truck- It just won best Vegan food truck of the year! YUM! Follow on FB for locations. They do NYC and near by Jersey areas. -
NYC's bike lanes are plentiful and we love taking our bikes through Brooklyn then end up at Prospect Park... and hang around... or have a good work out and go through Wburg bridge (Brooklyn Bridge is too crowded..) go through LES , Soho then West Village' bike path on Hudson River park - up to Upper West... cycling from West Village to Upper west was such a scenic ride - and it was just a straight bike path! We took it only up to Riverside Park and it was such a lovely ride. Ended up eating at either Peacefood Cafe or Candle Cafe both in Upper West :) -
For food, One Lucky Duck (now in Chelsea Market!), Rawlicious, Angelica Kitchen, Blossom, Babycakes and--my fave--Peacefood Cafe. For movement, Yoga Vida, Stanton Street Yoga, Zenyasa Yoga and SoulCycle. For bliss, The Highline, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Union Square Farmer's Market. Enjoy! -
Brooklyn has a lot of vegan cafes/restos! Some of my faves (not exactly in any order)... Champs Diner - amazing diner vegan food and love their bakery! ... Foodswings - but I think youve been here before... Dun well doughnuts -- really love these guys for getting everyone to help raise money so they can open a vegan doughnut shop... Sun in Bloom has got the healthiest vegan menu ive seen so far...and ofcourse when in Brooklyn one must have pizza at Maimonide Of Brooklyn! Other places that have vegan option but not necessarily a vegan resto - Papacitos - for their awesome vegan options for Mexican Street Food and Robertas for really great pizzas ... and if you can visit the the sister resto "Blanca" next door - this is currently the one of the hottest restos in NYC...but not vegan...but for now I would like to try also Bon Appetit's best dish of the year - the simple and humble "Crisp Kale Salad" at Battersby... phew!!! -
-
Blossom on 9th Ave (there's a couple of locations but 9th ave is the original) and Pure Food and Wine if you want awesome raw vegan food. Also serves Kaijitsu is an amazing vegan Japanese restaurant. If you want a break from stop by The Frick museum or the family friendly riverside parks running from Tribeca to West 23rd. Looking forward to hearing more about the play. -
I live in LA and I'm still dreaming about Basta Pasta in NYC - it's Italian/Japanese fusion cuisine - amazing! http://bastapastanyc.com/ -
OMG- you have to try Hangawi for their AMAZING pomegranate iced tea. To die for!
Plus you get to take off your shoes and eat barefoot :)

So excited you'll be back in NYC!!! A new place just opened up on my block called "Vegan Diva's." Delicious desserts, muffins, frozen yogurt, juices, coffee drinks. It is SO yummy! What I love is when you get a juice, they give it to you in a glass jar that you can re-use! I'm definitely buying tickets to the show!! -
It's not a vegan restaurant, but I DIE for the spaghetti marinara with basil at La Bottega on 9th Ave and 17th (The restaurant of the Maritime Hotel). I love dining outside there. Just ask for no butter :)
