Elizabeth Kucinich has been a vocal supporter of the Rockville 15, a group of 15 chimps that were likely bred in violation of the NIH’s moratorium on breeding. Right now, they are being held in two research facilities, one of which has been under investigation after three decomposing monkey bodies were found trapped in a metal shoot on its premises.
Beyond this heartbreaking cruelty, recent reports have shown that experimentation on chimps is NOT useful to scientists developing cures for human diseases. So why are taxpayers still paying for chimps to be abused and held in captivity? It makes no sense.
See why Horses need our help, too!
Please, please sign this petition to transfer these gentle, intelligent creatures to a sanctuary.
Do you have an animal rights cause that’s especially important to you?
Share it in the comments below, and I may highlight it in a future blog.

Hello all and Happy New Year!
I just signed up for this site and I am so excited to have more help in my transition to a kind, vegan lifestyle. The animal rights cause that is near and dear to my heart is greyhound rescue and adoption. My family has adopted retired racing greyhound since I was four years old. They are the most gentle, docile dogs you could ever imagine and it is heartbreaking that so many of them are condemned to euthanasia (hundreds of thousands annually) simply because they are not profitable as racers. It just really drives home the fact that when people use animals as commodities, the animals are only seen for their monetary value. At the tracks while the dogs are training and racing, the living conditions are horrible and the dogs are deprived of basic comforts and healthy surroundings. Many of them are traumatized because this breed is so emotionally sensitive. I volunteer at our local adoption center for them and have two sweet girls lighting up my life right now. As I said, it is a tragedy that it goes on and what makes it even worse is the fact that people do not know what really goes on at the tracks. I could go on for much longer, but I will stop. Thanks for reading! :) -
Hi Alicia! I'm doing a group project to help raise awareness for chimpanzees used in biomedical research. Many have been put through unimaginable amounts of fear and pain. Lets support those foundations that help care for and rehabilitate these precious chimps!

I'm totally against animal testing. I've just signed it and I would like to share this one: Leonardo Dicaprio is asking all the countries to sign this petition to protect animals that live in the Antartic ocean http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_southern_ocean_5/ Thanks! -
Alicia and fellow-Kind-Lifers,
Green Mountain College in Vermont has used 2 oxen, Bill and Lou, for a decade to help mow and work at their campus. Now, one was injured and can no longer work. The other has been reluctant to work with another partner (understandably, there is quite a bond between the two!) Green Mountain has decided to slaughter Bill and Lou and serve their meat in the college cafeteria! Vine Sanctuary in VT has offered to take them but the college has refused and says their decision is FINAL! (I can barely even type the words; it is so heartbreaking to me.)While I understand that their logic makes sense to them, I feel the complete lack of respect for Bill and Lou's lives and the complete absence of gratitude to them for their many years of service to the college. They will be slaughtered at the end of October so TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. Sign petitions. Call the college. GO to the college. Please get involved. Thank you. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-friedrich/green-mountain-colleges-f_b_1967361.html -
Free the Rockville 15! Just signed the petition, Miss Alicia Silverstone, have a lovely day, xox! -
Hi DeeDee,
Thanks for signing the petition. I really hope it will come to the attention of more people soon.
Thanks for pointing out the incorrect link - as you can see I have re-posted with a correct link.
With loving kindness,
Rabbit! -
Dear Alicia,
Thank you for posting this - I have signed the petition.
And thank you for providing me this opportunity to share an animal rights concern with you.
I am wondering whether you might consider the Raccoon Dog, which is exploited for its fur in China.
I viewed a most heart wrenching video of one of these creatures being skinned alive and tossed onto a growing heap of others that had met a similar fate. In the video the skinned but alive raccoon dog even manages to raise its head and look into the camera.
So sad. And so sad that humans can grow so desensitized to the pain of others.
I signed the petition on change. org.
Here is a link:

969,645 signatures still needed!
Please do highlight if you think this deserves a mention.
So many thanks and very best wishes. -
Rabbit, I signed your petition too. So, so horrible. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. I had no idea. (what won't people do for selfish reasons? I'm just shaking my head with disgust right now)
Also, your link needs a bit of fixin:

Alicia, I hope you will consider the impact of palm oil consumption on the destruction of rainforests. This is especially important for vegans because palm oil is often used as a substitute for butter. You mention in your book that rainforest in Costa Rica was cut down for cattle farms. I have traveled through Costa Rica and although it's true that there are cattle farms, there are so many more oil palm plantations. As you say in your book, that forest isn't coming back, and neither are the animals that lived there. -

Thank you Alicia for sharing this sweet photo and message of the Rockville 15. I will sign it and promote it, that is the least we can all do.
I have been getting involved and learning all that I can about the animal control shelters in my area and across our great nation. They have been in power to take care of the animals "problems" in our communities since around 1865. That is a long time and the ordinances give them the power to kill companion animals such as dogs and cats and often puppies and kittens because they require more time to care for, and since they are so young they get little illnesses easily and so they just put them down.
There is a grassroots movement called "No Kill" is trying to bring awareness of the 4 to 5 million companion animals that are killed each year. This is outrageous. People need to first become aware that this problem ends up being the animal controls job to take care of the overpopulation of kittens, pups, dropped off older and unwantable animals, hoarding situations, ferals, etc.
I am getting involved in my community starting with helping to reduce the kitten population by TNR (trapping, neutering, and returning) the kitty back to its location so it can live out it's short life (outdoor kitties typically only live a few years). I am volunteering to foster kittens until they can find forever homes, and I just started helping to help with adoptions. There are so many areas to volunteer it can change lives, the animals and yours when you do something to help an innocent animal.
Please help bring awareness of this issue Alicia. Your work helps to make a difference. Thank you. -
Dear Jean Michael, Cabbage 1979, Kind guy who loves life, or whoever you choose to be at the moment, you have the information. Your quoting "I don't really know up to which point they treat animals badly everywhere, but I figure that big chain food who specialize in meat products should be absolutely white in that area, in any case if they want my support... I was eating at least two burgers each days there... I'm sorry but the cause of deforestation in countries like Brazil in more important to me than McDonald's... Beside that the only meat I buy beside the occasional dairy products like cheese is the pepperoni on my pizza and the "meat" (if we can call this that way) used to make hot-dogs a few times a week because it's cheap, I can't think of anything else.."May I respectfully suggest that you stay in tune with this website which flat out is against consuming animal based products. But more so than just that, this site offers so many alternatives, it's easy to see they are not just against an animal based diet, but totally for teaching and guiding those who wish to learn a new way of looking at themselves and the world around them. -

My favorite animal rights cause is farm sanctuary. They rescue animals that have escaped from farm sanctuary's and give them a great home that does not end in a slaughter. I am trying to raise money for this cause and would be grateful if anyone here would like to donate!
If you can and know people that would be interested please encourage them to donate money here: https://events.walkforfarmanimals.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.start&destination=P&eventID=594&participantID=10226
It does not need to be a lot ($5 is okay!) and you do not need to be a vegetarian/vegan to support this cause!
