Today is the autumnal equinox and the first official day of fall. In scientific terms, that means the sun is on the same plane as the Earth’s equator. Culturally, this means it’s time to celebrate the harvest! As far as harvest festivals and holidays, Oktoberfest and Thanksgiving are the two biggies in the U.S., but most towns also have smaller ongoing food festivals during this time of year.
Whether you’re at a food festival, farmers market, or in your own kitchen, there’s tons of yum food to eat right. Check out my post about what’s in season here! And to get ahead for Thanksgiving planning, check out how I spent my Thanksgiving last year and get my Thanksgiving recipes here.
Now watch the brand new trailer for Vamps!
How do you plan to celebrate the first day of fall?

We made a little alter honoring the water, earth, air and fire. I wish I had more time I would have made vegan banana bread and cooked squash :) I love the idea of a Mabon festival although I'm still new to the equinox celebrations..they sound lush! -
Enjoying the rain and cool breeze in my ceramic art studio in Kingsville, Tx. Ahhhhh, summer ending and winter is coming, but the autumn winds make life never ending. -
I went to the DCVegFest today and volunteered and had a great time. I was at yards park and there was lots of delicious food there. Organized by VSDC and COK; they were awesome.

Sweet Potato Applesauce will mark my first day of Autumn. I love the feeling of fall! For a great sweet potato applesauce recipe go to www.sproutingsouls.com. I love your blog Alicia! I just made your Mom's granola recipe from The Kind Diet and added gogi berries. It is so yum! -
Well, Alicia, I was out looking at shop windows and doing grocery shopping! But it WAS a lovely fresh dry breezy day. I like the fall/autumn season too. Each season has its own upsides in a natural way. xo, Miss Alicia. -
Finishing a book titled "Radical Honesty" by Dr. Brad Blanton. It's perhaps the only book I've read that explains my Midwestern upbringing in contrast with the authentic friends I have had the good fortune to come into contact with. This is a far more challenging discipline than eating a whole plant based diet. For me, this is a new transition point. -
aca llego la primavera y adivina estan saliendo los brotes de las flores que expenden un olor increible que me traen recuerdo de algo muy especial quisiera embotellar ese olor para tenerlo siempre -
Going to the wedding of a dear childhood friend. I can't wait to take my little one to the pumpkin patch and the apple orchard in a few weeks! -
