Fifteen year old Kind Lifer Veronica gets healthy. Check out her story:
“My name is Veronica; I'm fifteen years old, and I grew up in a junk food, meat-obsessed household. We'd have McDonald's every day and I LOVED burgers. This was up until three months ago. I decided that I was going to become healthy and completely turned my diet around. I'd read up a bit on The Kind Life, and I realized that even though I’d already taken some steps toward a cleaner diet, I was still sluggish and heavy. I started noticing that the days that I was getting plant protein in my meals instead of animal, I felt SO much better. I cut out dairy first, and then red meat, and three weeks ago I decided to make the leap to veganism.
Check out Kind Lifer Zena’s story about overcoming an eating disorder.
My dad (the biggest carnivore on the planet!) isn't too supportive, but my mum understands and gave me the money to go to the independent grocery store in my area. I bought nutritional yeast, flaxseeds, psyllium, and oodles or fruits and vegetables. I feel SO much better knowing that I'm living a kind life! I know it's early, but I can't see myself ever wanting to go back. It's even inspired my boyfriend to go vegetarian (that boy loves his cheese, but I've turned him on to almond milk smoothies)!
I'm getting your book for my birthday (hopefully!), and I can't wait to read it. I just wanted to let you know that you really have changed my life. I've struggled on and off with binge-starve eating issues, and for the first time in my teenage years, I'm not riddled with guilt with anything I eat. I'm genuinely, genuinely happy, and it's all due to your message.“
This makes me so happy! Congrats, Veronica!! I can't wait for you to read the book…I know you will love it!
If any of you kind lifers have a success story to share, private message me or upload your story to your profile and “like” it. I may feature you on the homepage of The Kind Life!

That's such an inspiring story :) It's beautiful to read how Veronica has made this decision for herself and I'm so glad that she has her mum's support. After being brought up on a completely different diet, it takes some determination to switch it around. But what really stands out for me is how much switching to veganism has affected Veronica's mental health. Having suffered from eating disorders myself, to finally be liberated from food that way is the best thing that could have happened to you.
Veronica, you're a beautiful, smart and courageous girl - you should feel very proud of the difference you're making to your health and to the world :) -

OMG I'm fifteen and vegan too! I went vegan two and a half years ago after reading The Kind Diet, and I am still going strong and loving it! I have to admit, at first, I couldn't care less about my health; it was just because I had always had a strong connection with animals and I couldn't bear to contribute to their harm. Even eating processed gardein at every meal still made me feel more aligned with what I was eating! But about six months ago, I started to really get into healthy eating with whole foods and more veggies, and I feel fantastic! I had struggled with binge-starve eating before too, and I still have my moments, but I am overall moving in a very positive direction. It is so cool to see more young people like me living a kinder life. I wish you all the best on the rest of your vegan journey! :) -
Such an inspiring story... I was thinking the same thing, sending her a copy of the book. I know what it is like to not have a lot of support. Although, as I have been on my journey I find more and more friends and family that are thoughtful about food for events for me. I even have people in my life that are flirting with veganism and they love all the vegan treats I make for them! Having been through eating disorders for years I can sympathize with Veronica. Veganism has made me the healthiest I have ever been and I was vegetarian for almost 20 years. I am much more cognizant of what I eat everyday so I make sure I get all of what I need. Glad to see so many teenage girls making healthy choices for themselves. Love all the posts of acts of kindness and support. Kind Lifers rock! -
i had a binge-starve disorder since i was 15. it's been getting better though. i find that the more i eat to nourish (and enjoy) the happier i feel. it takes too much energy obsessing about calories and weight. i'm glad that being vegan gives you a better outlook about this issue. keep it up! i'm still struggling to be 100% vegan, so i applaud you :) -
Not only have I read The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone many times, I refer to it almost every day. There is so much information related to many subjects. Not just food. -
Alicia why don't you send her a signed copy of the book - I think she is worth it after writing such a nice story for your site! -
Alicia's book was the inspiration I needed to get me all the way Vegan. 100% plant based, whole food (no garbage going in, I look & feel great). -
Lisa Jury,
You Can Do That....just send Zena (or anyone) a PM & trade email addys, then get her snail mail addy & buy Alicia's book from Amazon & have it sent directly to her. How do I know? Been There, Done That. I sent A's book to a girl in South Africa....talk about a goat rope. First one got lost & Amazon send her a 2nd one for FREE--which she did receive. Kindness Works! I love you for doing for others! :)

Hi Zena,
Shame on your dad for being UNsupportive. I even turned my 23-y-o daughter onto being Vegan (She'll be 26 Aug 21st & she's still Vegan).

Oh man we should take up a collection to get her a copy of the book, its only $20. I wish I could pay for it and send it to her I'd do it myself, what an inspiration on self worth and dignity. You keep that attitude up sweet heart! -
Veronica, Congrats! I wish I had been smart enough at your age to realize when change is needed. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring others!
