Merry Christmas!
I hope you’re all having a relaxing holiday. I wish for all of you a very comfortable feeling of warmth and peace. I hope you are exactly where you want to be enjoying your precious holiday and time off from work (hopefully). You deserve it.
Thank you for everything that you each contribute to this amazing community. Your comments and help you give each other is so inspiring.
Also, thank you to everyone who, shared kind gift ideas and contributed yum holiday recipes to the kind recipe gallery this year.
Today is also my husband’s birthday, so we’re probably going to have a nice dinner. We like to keep it low key around here on Christmas. This year there won’t be any presents. We have all that we need: each other. We will enjoy a day with just the three of us, just like we do all the time, but today no one will have any work and we will treat Christopher extra special. He put in his request for the day: a little Laker game (we haven’t watched TV in 5 months except the debates). And to go see a movie.
How are you celebrating today?
Love,
Alicia

We also had a calm Christmas around here, but filled with family and delicious food! On Christmas Eve, I made veggie burgers (PPK's beet burgers) and a delicious kale salad with avocado, toasted pumkin seeds and the tahini dressing from The Kind Diet. For dessert, PPK's chocolate pudding pie (a special occasion family favorite). For Christmas dinner, my mom made your baked tofu (I gave her your book as a gift last year), mashed potatoes, steamed green veggies, quinoa salad and the cranberry sauce from your book. She was very excited to make her own cranberry sauce for the first time ever! She has served the canned stuff since I can remember even though I would constantly tell her how easy it is to make her own. She recently read an article about the BPA's found in canned food and that made her want to make her own :)
She unfortunately also felt the need to serve chicken "for the meat eaters". Most of them actually had the chicken as well as the baked tofu and my sister actually had seconds of the tofu and asked for the recipe! My son was sad when I told him there would be chicken, he said he didn't like when people eat nice little chickens. It made me proud to see I'm raising such a kind and sensitive 4 year-old, but it allowed us to have a discussion about personal choices and not judging other people's choices. I want my kids to grow up happy and healthy, but not feeling deprived or superior. It's not always easy raising mindful children, but totally worh th it! -
Alicia, crazy coincidence... Today is also my birthday and me and my husband also decided no gifts this yr. My sis inlaw made me a mandorin orange cake (not vegan), she was like" its made with fruit so u can eat it". So i did, lol, but she did accomidate just for me on most of the side dishes for christmas dinner. We had a wonderful day lots of love. Merry Christmas to your fam and little Bear and happy birthday to your husband. -
cheryl- st. Johns wort for anxiety. U can get it in vitamins anywhere. U can tell almost imediatlythat it works. Its all natural and if it calms u down too much it just takes some gering used to. -
I want to wish everyone a blessed holiday and new year 2013! May
kindness to all living creatures and the earth become more wide spread.
Thanks to all for being kind to the animals and eachother and the planet!
Does anyone know of any natural remedies for anxiety? I am planning to relocate and start a new job in 2013 after 20 years......was offered a position at Cedars in LA and working at a VA hopsital in West Palm Beach......probably will end up in Palm Beach as the cost of living better and can live a better quaility life.
Peace,

Today I'm celebrating Christmas! I celebrated with really good eats! Mashed Acorn Squash, Spaghetti squash with Tahini dressing. (I used a little parm cheese, but I'm not anymore to consume the rest of this dish!) and GF V Vanilla Pumpkin Cake with Tofu Frosting. It was so delish! Alicia, what vegan eats did you have for x-mas and to celebrate your hubby's b-day? Well, I hope you have a wonderful Holiday season and New Years!!!
From,
Julie Swartout :-)
P.S. I wish you all the best for the new year!
P.P.S Good luck on the new book!!! -

Merry Christmas Alicia and family! I was given The Kind Life by my husband for a present today (we're both vegans). Have spent a happy morning reading! -

Merry Christmas from Ontario, Canada! And happy birthday Christopher! My husband and I spend our Christmas with family and friends, and instead of exchanging gifts with one another, we put a little money aside here and there so that throughout the year we can spend a weekend away, go to a concert, or enjoy a fancy meal. It means so much more than buying each other something just because a holiday says we should.
All the very best to everyone in the new year!
Love to you all!

Merry Christmas from Frederick, MD! We spent our Christmas Eve (our traditional Christmas celebration is the 24th) having a delicious Christmas dinner in our home, and had the pleasure of also having my parents, one of my cousins whom I haven't seen in a year, and my daughter's boyfriend. The whole night was lovely, late night we exchanged gifts, and we got a white Christmas to boot! Today we are all lounging in our pj's and eating leftovers. :) -
Happy Christmas Greetings from Slovakia!I hope all are having a restful day and holiday. Sounds like yours is very peaceful and meaningful Alicia. I like your wish for us all-"I hope you are exactly where you want to be enjoying your precious holiday." I am with my boyfriend, we are enjoying (loving) our first Christmas together. It's blissful. Since I'm Irish today I made a lentil roast dinner with roasted veg and my b/f is Slovak so last evening (Christmas Eve is the main event here) he made roasted tofu and salad. Perfect. We didn't do presents for each other except treasuring together time, which is the most precious gift of all. Thanks for sharing your light-filled life with us Alicia, very inspiring for us all. Bless you and yours for the coming year ahead. With love from Europe :) xx Happy birthday Christopher! -
Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy Birthday to Christopher. I just arrived back in Maryland this morning from a fun time at my cousins in New Jersey with my sister. My cousin Amanda Squitieri who actually lives in Southern California is a very accomplished opera singer and vegan as well. Not all the food was vegan but we did have plenty of vegan options. Nice cosy atmosphere while I played my guitar and everyone sat around and talked.
Thank you for posting and I hope you are doing well in New York. Have fun at the movies.

Spending the day with my precious family of 5 on the beach in North Miami along with friends...it's a beautiful sunny day and we'll catch some vitamin D, take a walk, play paddle ball and frisbee, have a kind and delicious picnic with pita, hummus, veggies, sprouts, vegan pate, some wine and just chill by the water in the fresh air...lucky me...Happy Birthday to Christopher and have a marvelous day...sounds like you have a pretty special day in store for the 3 of you, nothing like that quality time with your own family, it means everything...
lucky you...Happy Holidays and lots of love and blessings Alicia, glad to join in on this convo today...thank you... -
Aloha - we spent our Christmas Eve at a candlelit yoga class in a historic Buddhist mission, with a live band. It was magical, actually and we both felt very peaceful and grateful on the way home. The sun is just now rising in the islands, and our teeny tiny apartment has a soft glow from the little native tree we decorated. It's our first Christmas as newly-weds. Last year was our first Christmas in the islands without our families, and we both agreed to skip presents too since neither of us really knew what Christmas was for us - but on Christmas Day I remember feeling the ache of missing our families and getting the blues, so this year we decided to feel out what traditions do matter to us and make it more festive. We agreed on one gift each (I cheated and got some little stocking stuffers though.) And I decorated the house with what felt meaningful to us (locally grown, native plants) - and cards and stockings and lights. :) Today we'll start our day outrigger canoe paddling outside Waikiki, then breakfast at home, gifts (mostly for our dog.), and a drive to north shore to share dinner and drinks with our friends there. We feel fortunate. Thank you for the example you are of a conscious life. Mele kalikimaka. -
Merry Christmas Alicia, Christopher, Bear and Kind Life community,
We too enjoy celebrating the real reason of Christmas with no gifts. Years ago we stopped buying into the commercial end of this precious day and spend it with each other, and later will go to friends for a Kind diet of minestrone soup and salad. I love simplifying this day so that we don't get that anxious feeling that use to consume us during this time of year. Once we realized it was market driven to get into the holiday by shopping, we opted out, and have been so much happier.
Throughout the year I pick up special little token gifts for friends and I do like to give my girlfriends a little something wrapped in a little gift bag.
Merry Christmas,
Rhonda -
