Summer is the perfect time to hit the highway with the family for a road trip, but before you get behind the wheel, check out these tips from PETA on how to protect the lives of animals that may also be on the road.
Use defensive driving techniques: Drive slowly at night, honk your horn at animals before they approach the road, and flash your high beams at animals to prevent an accident. If you're doing heavy highway driving this summer, you can also invest in a deer whistle, a device that's inaudible to human ears and attaches to the front bumper of your car. The deer whistle makes a noise that deer can hear while you're driving that deters them from running into the road.

Carry an animal rescue kit: By keeping an emergency rescue kit in your trunk to help wounded animals, you can aid an animal until help arrives. Be sure to include the following: dog biscuits(these organic treats by Max & Ruffy are good!), cat food, and water to lure the animals; a long rope or leash that can be looped into a collar to capture animals; a bandage for a muzzle; a collapsible cardboard carrier for small animals; a blanket or towel; a brown paper bag and clothespin to keep the bag shut forcarrying injured birds; and a list of emergency phone numbers of veterinarians, humane societies, animal shelters, and wildlife rehabilitators.
In the unfortunate instance that you do come upon an animal that has been killed by a car, either move him or her out of the roadway yourself, or immediately report the incident to the local animal control department.
Summer road trips can be a lot of fun, and it takes very little effort to help protect animals that you may come across along the way.

Please use this woderful website to spread the word about this petition! Until 2011 animal crush fetish porn videos were legal in the US. They are now outlawed but are still not in the UK! We are trying to get the petition to 1 million signatures but are a long off which is why I ask if everyone could take 2 seconds to sign the petition. (WARNING SUBJECT MATTER IS EXTREMELY DISTURBING)
Thank you so much!

In December of 2011, it was snowing in Seattle and my bopyfriend picked me up from work on our way home a car hit this cat that was crossing the road and didnt even stop. I ran out of the car and watched him die, I was crying but picked up his little lifeless body and put him under a tree. It was the worst, people just don't care.

what a great post - it's always so sad to see wounded or fatally injured animals in the middle of the road and no one stops to do anything! thanks for these tips alicia xx

What a wonderful post; thank you for sharing this.
I think the best thing we can all do for the animals is to slow down. The higher the speed the more likely you are to not see an animal on the side of the road about to try to cross and/or be able to brake fast enough to be able to safely stop. My husband used to get awfully frustrated with me because when we're in wooded areas I tend to drive 5 miles under the speed limit. But after many close encounters with deer, squirrels and tons of stubborn birds in the middle of the road he understands and appreciates my patience. Plus it gives us time to enjoy the scenery and the close ups with the animals :) Last week we got a couple of feet away from a young deer grazing on the side of a busy highway. Because I was driving slow I saw him, put on my hazards to warn other vehicles and we got to watch him for about a minute while we waited for him to go back into the woods safely. He was absolutely beautiful and I'm grateful I didn't miss that experience from just speeding along.
