For June’s giveaway of signed copies of The Kind Diet, I asked you to tell me what BBQ recipes you’d love to veganize. Our winners Carly and Amanda asked for vegan hotdog suggestions, potato salad, and this is a new one…vegan deviled eggs!
From Carly
“I would love to find a really great really healthy recipe for vegan hotdogs that my grandfather will eat and not complain about haha. I have been staying with him this summer, and he is such a huge part of my life. I am really trying to get him to eat better as I expect him to be around to play with my kids! I made him tofu scramble and fakin’ bacon for breakfast the other day, and he really did love it. He kept saying "and your're sure this is vegan...and you're SURE this is healthy...and you're SURE this has PROTIEN?!" Haha he loved it! So, i think we're making progress :) I'm going grocery shopping tonightwith my grandma, who is starting to cut out dairy, for some superhero foods. Hopefully this is the start of something really great that they will keep up after I go back to college.”
Carly, I’d recommend Field Roast. Most traditional hotdog toppings are veg anyway, so go wild with the mustard, relish, grilled onions…whatever your grandfather loves! What do you kind lifers think is the best veg hot dog on the market?
From Amanda:
“Being in Florida, my veg husband and I are very much looking forward to lots of summertime backyard BBQs and cookouts with family - we always make this delicious BBQ tempeh recipe you shared a while back, but would LOVE some surprising veganized options for sides - standbys like potato salad or some kind of deviled ‘egg!’”
Amanda, here’s a yum-looking recipe for potato salad. Kind Lifer Willowtree shared this vegan deviled egg recipe here. I would recommend picking your husband’s fave recipe and just switching out the nasty stuff. Vegenaise for Mayonnaise, and so on… bet he would love that!
Congrats, ladies! For next month’s giveaway, I want you all to share your favorite on-the-go snack! I’ll go first. My go-to snack is mochi. I drizzle it with brown rice syrup or wrap it in nori (check out my recipe for pan-fried mochi in The Kind Diet). I take it in the car with me and bring it to set for any easy, yummy snack.
Tell me what your go to snack is, and I’ll pick one winner at the end of the month to receive a signed copy of The Kind Diet.

my snack of choice is definitely Primal Strips vegan jerky. all the flavors are good (there are 6), but my favorite is shiitake mushroom. inexpensive, easy to pack and carry around, and super tasty! -
I've been flirting with veganism for a long time now, and have recently made the plunge to commit! My sister and I are doing it together, to be a better team and to support one another. Even her kids like it! Because we are still trying to learn the ropes of what's best to eat, we are always looking for new snacks. Right now my favorites are hummus with pita bread or with fresh veggies. I especially like red bell peppers and snap peas! We also love Larabars! They come in delicious desert flavors and are completely vegan! -

Definitely hummus. I make mine homemade every week and then eat with a mixture of veggies and kalamata olives throughout the week. Classic but fantastic. Yum! -
My fav is an apple. I like to grab one when I know I am going to have a bit of a crazy day. Has water, is sweet and I can easily eat it while I drive. -
I like to mix dark cocoa roast almonds, non-dairy mini chocolate chips, and dried cherries. It's a great way to satisfy a sweet craving and get a little protein hit at the same time! -
Hooray for snacks! My snack of the moment: apple slices with cashew butter. It's that crispy-plus-smooth texture and the tart-plus-sweet flavor that covers all your cravings! -
My favorite snack is almond butter on a rice wrap with fresh jam or local honey. I just came back from an acroyoga/slacklining retreat, where I rediscovered the joys of almond butter - we would make these wraps and take them out to the field where we were practicing. We called them "slacker snacks!" -
My favorite go-to snack is a fruit/veggie shake. Usually with bananas, blueberries, greens, carrots, ginger etc... I was spoiled while pregnant with my son as my mom (who only lives a block away!) would make me a shake every morning! I am blessed to have such a great mom and an extra healthy veg child! -
My favorite go-to snack is a reasonable quantity of a variety of nuts mixed together like unsalted pecans, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pistachios with cranraisins :) -

My 2 favorite go-to snacks are baby carrots with fresh-grind almond butter and sliced cucumbers and celery sticks with homemade hummus. -
My favorite go to snack is baked lotus chips with rosemary! Beyond delicious and easy to make and store. (I buy the pre-cut, then microwave for 2 minutes and soak in water with a tbsp of lemon juice until cool). After a few minutes (I go with about 8); drain and pat down with a towel, heat the oven of 450 f, I then used an olive oil and rosemary mixture and brush over the lotus roots (both sides) on the baking sheet. Bake until a golden color. They last up to 3-4 days (if your lucky; I eat them all way before that). -
My favorite snack is a shake made of almond milk, fruits like strawberries or bananas, oats and nuts! -
oatmeal bites! I cup of oats, 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/2 cup agave or brown rice syrup, 1/4 cup flax seeds, 1/2 cup shredded coconut flakes, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/4 cup vegan chocolate chips! Mix all ingredients together and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes or overnight. Then take about 1/4 cup of the chilled mixture and roll into a ball. Repeat with the rest of the mixture. Put your little oatmeal bites in the fridge for a quick on the go snack! So yummy!!! -

my favorite current snack is a baguette, lightly toasted with a smear of sweet grainy mustard, and topped with chopped kalamata olives, dried figs, and fresh tomatoes.
a close second would be simple homemade granola with a splash of almond milk and topped with cocoa nibs and dried goji berries. -

Pita chips and hummus--yummo! I can take them with me on my drive to pick the children up from school. Also like frozen grapes and blueberries--just put them in a baggie and go. -
-
My go to snack- PB and Jelly toast, veggies and hummus are a close second, and fresh fruit would be third.
