I love Maddison Avenue Candles because they come in really pretty glass jars. They don't really smell when you light them, but they smell amazing when you stick your nose in them before being lit! My favorite one is the Grapefruit scent. They come in a beautiful box that would be great to reuse in your house, or use for gift giving. They are sexy and sophisticated!

I also love candles from Milena's Boutique. She makes Kosher, soy candles. They smell absolutely yummy when lit. The Sage and Chamomile blend is my favorite that I've tried so far. Milena's candles make such great gifts, and scent any room beautifully. And they have a store in Los Angeles on 3rd Street! Milena is a huge animal person who rescues all the time, and is a very kind woman.
Also, Red Flower's Spanish Gardenia candle smells wonderful and would make a great gift.
What candles do you love?
Now I know I've mentioned it before, but I love Ecosystem Planners & Journals. If you are looking for a new planner or journal, this is definitely a great way to go. I have one of these journals, and I love it.

What I love so much is that all of Ecosystem's products are made out of 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Even the bookmark that is attached to the journal is made out of organic cotton! The coolest part is that in the back of each planner or journal, there is an ID number that lets you track where all the parts of your journal came from. You just go to www.ecosystemlife.com, type in the number, and it shows you where the components were made, and how to recycle them if you want to! So green, I love it.
You can get them online at Barnes&Noble.com. These journals and planners are great to get for yourself if you need one, but also would be such good holiday gifts!

Ecosystemlife: I posted this in the Forum section under Eco-Friendly Designers on 11/29/10, but I think it's a bit hidden there. So here it is again:
Last year, Alicia recommended planners by ecosystemlife.com. They use 100% post-consumer recycled paper and much more - check it out. I liked the idea and the description and purchased the smallest size. It was perfect for my small purse, and it held up extremely well with heavy use. They are available for 2011 and I just bought the monthly flexi-covered (it's water resistant - I've washed it), kiwi (it's a nicer color than is pictured on the website), "advisor" version ($14.17 incl shipping). It has each month spread over left and right pages, and between the months are two lined note pages so you don't have to squish details on the calendar. The last third is devoted to lined note pages for on-the-bus journaling, and there is a pocket in the back for stamps and vegan stickers, etc. It has an elastic band to hold things tight and it lasted all year and didn't stretch out!! I'm saying all this because the website doesn't do a very good job with their descriptions! It's a well-made product (USA), and I'm not being paid to say this.
Have a wonderful and kind 2011!

I have to say my favorite soy wax candles are hand-crafted by my dad! Our company is called It's All Good. Our candles are all natural. The wicks are eco-friendly and the wax is 100% soy. They smell so great!
The candles are handmade right out of our house! Based out of Philadelphia, the cop, turned teacher, turned candle maker takes custom orders too! The original ones come in white and off white to represent its purity, but we can make any scent or any color! We have a huge stock of scents. Right now I have Peppermint Patty in my room! YUM!
Check out the website! www.itsallgoodshop.com
Also, they are available in Cape May, NJ at Madame's Port and in Ocean City, NJ at Ocean City Coffee company on the boardwalk.
The jars are also 100% recyclable and our customers can return the jar to us for a new candle...or you can put fun things in them like spices, grains or beans!

I just ordered an ecosystem journal (I'm so excited!) for myself. I miss writing in a journal. I also just bought "The Kind Diet"... I've had my eye on it for 6-8 months now and been waiting for it at the library... I got some money for my birthday this week and thought I'd treat myself to your book and to a journal! How awesome! Thanks Alicia!

These are really good gift ideas. I've never used soy-based candles before but I am REALLY interested to start now!
I can't wait to find them and light them up and enjoy their yummy scents!
Where exactly can you find soy candles in Canada? ( I live in Toronto, Ontario)

I love the soy candles from www.soycandlesbyphebes.com. They have the best scents, AND they take scent requests. They are super, super friendly, and the candles are super, super delicious smelling. My bedroom smells like lilacs even after the candle has been blown out! -

I went to a local "home show" and found 100% soy candles. They're called Wick-It Cool Candles by Eric Herbert and Christine Mann, out of Hollis, NH. They have so many scents. My favorites are love spell, monkey farts(smells like tropical bananas), Japanese cherry blossom, and lick me all over. Some of the many candles have funny names. The best part is you can use the wax/oils from the candles for massage when melted. Check them out at: wickitcoolcandle@yahoo.com -
I love soy candles too, but I noticed that you have to watch out because most soy candles are just part soy wax, not 100%. My favorite soy candle company is a west coast company called Universol Aromas Soy Candle Company and they use 100%, herbicide/pesticide-free, non-gmo soy wax in their candles. Also they are contributors to PETA and have mostly recyclable products...very eco-conscious. Plus, they have a fragrance line and essential oil line and they smell amazing, just FYI! -

I also have an Ecosystem Journal. I've been writing poetry for almost 13 years now. It's great and I enjoy taking it along with me wherever I go. -
My favorite candles are soy candles from a candle ship in Oakmont, PA. I also enjoy Yankee Candles especially Black Cherry scent. I also enjoy Cucumber Melon or Vanilla by Little Lights. Tara Candles are great as well! They are soy and smell so yummy!!! They come in glass jars and look so cute. -

I love The Good Home Company soy candle in Italian Citrus. The Good Home Company also has the best cleaning and laundry products in Italian Citrus that are really fresh smelling. -
I love my ecosystem planner its perfect! I am so glad I saw it here. Its the right size and with the right style just for me. I also love that I can feel good about my purchase. Thanks for posting it. -
A cool tip for your soy candles- After you blow it out and the candle is still runny you can use it as a moisturizer that smells great! My naturopath gave me this tip after introducing me to a local soy candle company. -
If they are still in business by you or perhaps online, my favorite candles come from Pier1. They have plenty of essential oils in them to enjoy while burning and long after they've been blown out. I use them in my meditation room. My two favorite scents are Mango Tea Leaves and Ginger Pear. Too bad I only discovered them as my Pier1 was closing. -
Swan Creek Candle Co makes incredible soy candles. They smell wonderful, come in jars, planters and other earthy containers. Check them out at www.swancreekcandle.com -
I like soy based candles also. I get mine from Melaleuca where they are chemical free.
Their whole line of all the products are chemical free with no phosphates, no chemicals and earth friendly. Some candles give me a headache but these are made with natural ingredients and they burn clean and a long time too. There are food based candles made with natural herbs and botanicals and many kosher approved products. See www.melaleuca.com and if you want the wholesale price, email my at my address which is cindy@tucson-wellness.com. I don't stock them.
Have a lovely, smell good day.

Yes, Soy is the way to go. I make my own line of soy candles for my gift shop ( I make a majority of what I sell) and would never go back to using paraffin candles ... ugh.
It is great to be able to offer customers any blend they can think of . A customer requested Lavender & Chamomile last week - turned out to be a lovely combination.
PS - I make balms with beeswax obtained from my local "groovy" beekeeper (several beekeepers actually). Bees are amazing creatures, and honey is very good for you.

Ash:
I didn't realize about the candle thing either...but I just read in The Kind Diet book p. 134
"Conventional candles are made from toxic petroleum byproducts, the palm wax industry is responsible for destroying orangutan habitat, and beeswax -- unless youe getting it from a local, groovy beekeeper -- is bad for bees."
Go figure. Finally! An exuse to use up all those old candles! -
I bought the small Ecosystem 2010 planner yesterday and it's great. Small enough to fit in my purse and a great color (watermelon.) It was fun looking online to see where the recycled parts came from. Thanks for the tip Alicia! -
Circle E candles are my utmost favorite!! these scents last a very long time and they have some pretty unique scents as well :)
