I love Dr. Cow cheese. It is so yummy, and a good reason to throw a party! Make a cheese plate. Get a few different flavors, and put them on a tray. Add some figs, apricots or grapes. Maybe even put a little dish of agave nectar on the side to use as honey. If you live in LA, you can find Dr. Cow at Erewhon and if you're not in LA, you can order it from 2 online stores; VeganStore.com, or at VeganEssentials.com. In New York they sometimes sell Dr. Cow cheese at One Lucky Duck.

Introducing Non Vegans to Good Vegan Food
For some reason most non-vegans assume that vegan food sucks. I had my bike team over last night, 26 people and only 3 of them that eat vegan every once in awhile. It was a pot-luck so I made Mac-N-Cheese (yes, with the daiya cheese!) as well as Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies and a Vegan Chocolate Bundt Cake with a Maple Glaze. Everyone tried my Mac-N-Cheese and LOVED it. The response, "I can't believe that this is vegan". Then dessert came out and once again "I can't believe that this is vegan" was repeated over and over. By the end of the night the non-vegans were asking for my recipes. Good tasting vegan food is the key to exposing people to the vegan lifestyle. Even if people eat vegan once a week the world becomes a better and healthier place.
New Vegan Cheese
Check out Daiya Foods new vegan cheese at DaiyaFoods.com. This is by far the best vegan cheese that I have ever had AND it melts the best too. It works great for Mac-N-Cheese and for Grilled Cheese sandwiches. I have yet to try it on pizza but will do that this weekend. The cheese comes in Cheddar and Italian Blend. Whole Foods in Los Angeles is carrying it and there are other stores too. Their website lists the stores that carry the cheese. All I can say is THANK YOU Daiya Foods for making such an amazing product. I am off to make a Grilled Cheese now... until next time, eat well, live well & be well.
*I found all these great pictures of Dr. Cow Cheese on www.quarrygirl.com

For a spreadable cheese, I LOVE Wayfare "We Can't Say It's Cheese". They have cheddar, mexi, and hickory, and they're all fab! What really throws me off is they're made from oatmeal; you'd never know it!
Daiya is my go-to for pizza, nachos, and grilled cheese.
And, while not really "cheesy", I do love sprinkling Parma Chipotle Cayenne (made from walnuts and nooch) on my popcorn.
Flackers are awesome crackers- they're dehydrated and made from sprouted flax seeds.
I'm looking forward to trying the nut cheeses when I can find them (and not pay an arm and a leg).

i know i've tried daiya cheese on pizza and although it did melt and stretch, it was very creamy....it kind of freaked me out a bit. the taste was good, but it's just that really creamy texture that i'm finding it hard to get around.

For anyone in the MidWest... well, Ohio, so far, or in most of the South, there is a store called Earth Fare with a bunch of vegan alternatives. Field roast products, vegan cheeses galore - including one I haven't seen mentioned in awhile called "we cant say it's cheese".... I have only had it on crackers (yum), but a sales rep said it would goo and melt deliciously baked on a sandwich or in a maccaroni dish. It's oatmeal based, so I think it is soy free too. I liked it.

Helps if I search first, Interesting & will try a few, just hoping they don't taste anything like goats cheese.

My favorite crackers are the Wasa crackers from Sweden that I am so happy they've started selling in the States. They have a bunch of flavors, they're low cal and really filling. They are good with many different toppings but my favorite is just plain Earth Balance butter. Mmmm so good! http://us.wasa.com/default.aspx -
Daiya mozzarella and cheddar cheese are my favorites and tastes pretty good melted. Have to say it's the best tasting vegan cheese I've had so far even though I haven't tried Dr. Cow's, (it's more of a spread which I may use for crackers with the holidays coming), or that recipe link Amy posted for vegan almond feta cheese spread which I just bookmarked while doing this edit.

Hi Alicia,
I absolutely love nut cheese!!! My favourite is cashew nut cheese, which my mom makes. My favourite crackers are Mary's Organic Crackers. I have Celiac Disease, so I am limited on gluten-free crackers, but these ones are my treat to myself. If I don't have any nut cheese, I will simply spread some fresh avocado on them and munch away.
Cheers,
Michelle

Thank you so much! I am flirting with veganism, and a big roadblock I have is cheese, especially artisan cheeses. This is going to help me so much, especially since I don't have a big selection of vegan products (and that includes vegetables!) at my local grocery store. Little by little, I'm adapting. -
That's it! Im on a hunt this weekend for Chao Cheese and Dr. Cow Cashew and Hemp! Im so excited to try them... -
Gourmet vegan cheese is great sold in Ct at our health food store. It is great. I am from Wi so I know what great cheese tastes like we use to live very near a cheese factory. I am still waiting for a vegan cheese that absolutely wows me. I do like rice cheese but not the processed slices, I love the gourmet vegan cheese. I almost passed out when I tasted the almond cheese it was gross, waxy and flavorless. Well anyway if anyone out there knows of any other delicious vegan cheese let me know. I do have to mention I made a recipie with a great vegan ricotta cheese it was made from cashews -
So I ordered two from VeganEssentials.com and just received them. First, I can't believe how small they are! Half the size they are in the pictures! And because I had to pay 2-day shipping and buy a cold bag, paying $38 for them I was hoping for some good-sized cheese. I can't believe I paid that much (goes to show how much I miss cheese)! Anyhow, with that said, they are damn tasty. The Aged Cashew and Dulse one is good, but a bit mayonnaise-y. The Cashew and Hemp Seed is super-duper yummy. I really hope that it will soon be sold in Colorado where I live, because as good as they are, I don't think they're worth the $38 bucks I paid! -
ooooo so you like the cheese french_momma? I asked my local health food store to please order some...I hope they do! I bet it will be insanely expensive...but I need to try it. If I like it, I'll attempt to make my own "cheese," (there are recipes for it in raw food cookbooks) until I start making the big bucks, of course. lol :) -
I like Dr. Krakers and Mary's Crackers (original) -
The Mary's crackers are so verstile, yummy, vegan and pretty healthy considering they are a cracker. They are rice crackers. -
OK...so i got my Dr.Cow cheese... it's wonderful beyond description... except so tiny!!! very pricey i think for the size of each round of cheese...
i ordered from veganessentials.com- is there anywhere with a better value on this amazing cheese? -
I made this Almond Spread recipe for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. Really tasty. Try it!

I ordered the Dr.Cow cheese from veganessentials.com! That is one of my favorite sites to order from.
Dani, if you have not found a faux cheese that you like at the store, you might try making your own. The Uncheese Cookbook by Joanne Stepaniak is full of great recipes you can make at home, and tailor to your own tastes. ;o)

I have been disatisfied with the fake cheese industry. Daiya seemed gritty and the pictures that you post looks gritty too. So I just left it out of my diet. -
Does anyone know where I can get this cheese in Boston? I know I can order it online but would rather go to a store and purchase it. Thanks! -
Oh, Alicia, those cheeses look incredible!!! The Dr. Krackers are good, and I also really like Mary's Gone Crackers, which are made mostly from brown rice and are very crispy. So far the vegan cheeses I have tried are only so-so, and I can't wait to try these, they look much tastier!
xoxo -
Hopefully the cheese will come to New Jersey. I am finding that Jersey is not very Vegan friendly . Can't wait to try it.
