Two years ago my husband and I took some guitar lessons from Chris Murphy. Shannyn Sossamon, a beautiful vegetarian, recommended him to us. She had taken lessons from him for a while and loved him. So we took some lessons together, and it was really fun and exciting and hard! And guess who gave up quickly? Me! But only because I had a book to write! But my husband continued his lessons and he is still loving them. He's mastering music theory now.
Chris is an extremely passionate teacher. He is so focused and inspiring and so excited about life and art. He's funny, sweet and wild! And so feisty! Check out his site if you're interested in music lessons.
We became friendly with Chris, and he often curates the musical journey of our gatherings, like our Cupcake Champagne party. One time, he and Linda Perry from 4 Non Blondes started playing violin and guitar at our Thanksgiving. It was so rockin' and awesome!

Anywho, Chris also played with A Fine Frenzy at my book launch party. And he played solo while guests arrived. I thought that was very classy.
Not only is a great teacher but he's also a wonderful artist who is an ideal wedding musician. He plays weddings all over the place and I can't imagine a more perfect person to make music for your wedding, or for any kind of party.

He can be so sophisticated and bow tie-like, or jazzy and snazzy downtown New York kind of vibe. He's very affordable too, so if you want to book him for your event check out this site. He can transform into whatever you need as he is a groovy, sophisticated, raw soul.
We love you Murphy!

I LOVE playing the violin - did you know its the instrument that produced sounds closest to the human voice!. The only thing that bums me is that my bow is made of horse hair and some violins even have sheepgut strings (mine aren't). I'm trying to find vegan alternatives that sound amazing but haven't had any luck yet. -
do any of you Kind Life vegan flirts or superheros live on Maui.
Let's go shopping together at our new Whole Foods in Kahului !
Tell me how to reach you!

I know Chris well!! He works with my boyfriend, recording his albums! I live in Santa Monica, and get to see him at the Farmer's Market on Sundays. GO Chris!! -
Flirting-3 days and counting. :) Please give more tips on what to buy at whole foods. i.e staples, quick snacks. That place is SO overwhelming! -
I recently discovered A Fine Frenzy and fell hard for A Bomb in a Birdcage. I've always been the jamband, guys rocking out kinda gal, but this lady's voice finally broke me! -
Coolness... This past year I kept dreaming of taking lessons on either the violin, harp, or the sax... Couldn't decide so was gonna go with whatever instrument I first came across cheaply in a thrift and feel it as a sign... I love the guitar and have taken a few lessons but think I might be tone deaf.
Anyways, I guess he only teaches in Cali..?
Wonder if he has any east coast recs in New York City or Philly... -
Alicia, I think it is really cool that you seem to be such an avid music lover. My friends and I, who are almost all jazz majors and some form of vegetarian, were very excited to see the recipe included in your book by John Medeski. We all love his music. I feel like this lifestyle naturally corresponds to the true beauty found in great music. Thanks for the post!
