When I was a kid growing up in the country, my dog (Heidi) lost a litter of puppies and she was so depressed. Very soon after that one of our cats had a litter, but died during the birth. Heidi "adopted" the baby kittens and nursed them like they were her own litter. It was amazing to watch her care for these kittens just she had given birth to them! The new little family thrived. I'll have to ask my mom if she still has pics! -
