@deana bracken: super cute items at your store!
kaight nyc is well-curated, and while sustainable designs are on the agenda, not all products are vegan {kaightshop.com}. ethical ocean and pure citizen are both great online eco shops with a wide range of vegan options: they both have great labeling systems that allow shoppers to shop by category {i.e. organic, fair trade, vegan, etc.} -
Hey Friends, Green With Glamour is a wonderful online source for eco-fashion, home furnishings and gifts! http://greenwithglamour.com/

Just discovered an uber-cool gas station/convenience store (yes, gas station/convenience store) in Dallas called The Green Spot (opened 2/08on North Buckner Boulevard near White Rock Lake.) Instead of being filled with Slurpies (intentionally spelled incorrectly just in case), cigarettes and lottery tickets, co-owner Bruce Bagelman has stocked it with fresh flowers, herbal hibiscus mint tea (served in cups made of biodegradable corn), fresh sushi, and organic house cleaning products. The walllpaper is made from old paper grocery bags and they offer two kinds of bio diesel fuel along with fossil fuel. Free wi-fi. Organic snacks, kiddy goodies, etc. offered, although Bruce does concede "Coke" is also served because, "we can't make people go cold turkey," a sentiment shared by Alicia.
NOTE: Sorry for duplicate post. This was first posted incorrectly in bathroom cleaning forum. -
Sustainable NYC is located in the East Village of New York City. It is a great store filled with amazing eco, fair trade, organic, products. Sustainable supports local artists and schools around the neighborhood. They have a small cafe with vegan & organic coffee & food. I love this place! -

I love to garden and just started my own compost pile. I just started buying Biobags, which are biodegradable and compostable. I found that OrganicUniverse.com http://www.organicuniverse.com has the best price with free shipping on the bags that I use. They even sent me a list of what items to compost. I had some problems last year with my compost pile and called them. They were not only friendly but helped me figure out that I wasn't adding enough browns to my bin. You never get service like that. Most places don't even have a clue about their products. I was very happy with the service and quality of products.
I also discovered that they have Austrian Pumpkin Seeds and the oil. It is cold pressed and certified from Austria. I had heard about it when I went to a tasting and never knew where to get it till I stumbled across it on OrganicUniverse's website. To boot, they do NOT sell food or clothing made in China. Whole Foods should get a hint. With the latest news about 365 being made in China, they have lost my business. -

Almina Pure - just tried it and love it! I have combination skin...if that helps. They recycle the jars the makeup is in and right now they are donating some of their proceeds to different charities - depending on what you buy.

Does anyone have a particular makeup line that is eco-friendly but that is also very good and affordable? I am trying to switch my makeup brand. Thanks -
I live in Austin, where there's plenty of eco-stores. But I have a dear dear friend, Beth Doane, who started an eco-line in Toledo, Ohio (my hometown, and also one that's been extremely devestated by the current economy). Check out www.raintees.com so see her line. She's done amazing things with her green companies Rain Tees and Andira.

Hi Fitworld,
There may not be a lot of vegan-only places in Charleston, but there are actually a lot of vegan-friendly "Slow Food Movement" restaurants that use organic local ingredients. Believe it or not, there is even a "holistic soul food" restaurant here called Alluette's Café (www.alluettes.com) which features a lot of vegan and vegetarian choices. Alluette also opened a jazz club on Calhoun Street. The Marsalis brothers have played there. A vegan--friendly jazz club -- How cool is that?! A couple other quick suggestions are FIG on Meeting Street and Wok on King Street -
You are all so lucky to live in an area that has stores and most of all restaurants that are vegan. Are there any suggestions for the Charleston, South Carolina area? -
I work in Montclair, NJ at Terra Tea Salon and Fair Trade Eco Market! We can be found at www.terramontclair.com
Not only do the owners only purchase merchandise that are organic, fair trade and/or sustainable, but the food served is organic and includes plenty of vegetarian and vegan fare! The teas are all organic, fair trade and include plenty of loose tea varieties including Kukicha (twig) tea! To top it all off, we compost as a restaurant!
Thank you, Alicia for opening up this discussion so we can share our Kind Life resources =)

Shaklee's Get Clean products are amazing, and the best organic, bio-degradeable cleaning products I have ever tried, and I have tried them all! 100% money back guarantee! Not tested on animals. Oprah and the White House use them to clean with! Shaklee also has organic, eco-friendly products for babies, laundry and beauty.

Here is a great line of Canadian makeup:

I love their lipsticks/lip glosses - great colours, the gloss is not sticky, and they are quite mositurizing!
And thanks Alicia for the great article, I always love to hear about new eco stores!

Gotta add Humanitaire to the list for LA. They used to be in Costa Mesa but recently moved to Santa Monica. A great store, with online shopping too. They sell stylish vegan products (clothes, shoes, purses, guys wallets, belts, etc)
