If any of you registered voters are sitting on your butts right now, and you’re not planning on getting to the polls before they close, please go now!! You have so many reasons to vote. If you're a woman, you especially have to vote, because women fought for that right for you. Less than a century ago, we weren’t even allowed at the polls. That alone is a reason to go vote!
Anyone who says both candidates are lame is missing the point. Apathy is never the right choice, whether we’re talking about eating animals or choosing a leader who will make decisions that affect each and every one of us. If you don't care about the issues, start caring now, because our next President and all of your state and local officials will affect your day-to-day life. Don’t believe otherwise.
In close elections, every vote counts. I feel so proud that I get to vote. I feel so proud that I know who I want to vote for. I feel excited and fired up about this election, and I would feel so sad if people didn't go out and vote. Don't be lazy. We’re all here because we care, and voting is a fundamental way to impact the issues that affect you and your loved ones, people and animals included.
Go vote.
Love,
Alicia

Using the web is a natural progression of how social media is being utilized as a means of communicating one's thoughts regarding current events, albeit on a larger scale when it comes to presidential elections. Social media (IE:Facebook, this site) are what they are today because they are free...no cost...no credit card needed. News websites,Google, Facebook, etc. are ALL free, yet they are billion dollar companies who have different business models for how they generate revenue. I hope this helps you. -
I respectfully disagree with Alicia's posts. Every person has the right to complain about their government. See the First Amendment-it does not differentiate between voters and non-voters. Also, voting for a third party will not "guarantee your Mitt Romney vote." People should ALWAYS vote for who they want and not for somebody else out of fear that their vote is wasted. Otherwise, what's the point? -
Yeah, after much anguished deliberation I voted for Obama even though this Treehugger interview (http://www.treehugger.com/environmental-policy/will-we-vote-values-or-fears-treehugger-green-party-presidentila-candidate-jill-stein-interview.html) almost persuaded me to do otherwise. I agree that a Romney administration is just too dangerous a prospect not to vote for Obama. I did vote Green for House and Senate though. Have a good night everyone! -
It's compulsory to vote here in Australia and attracts a fine (albiet a small one) if you don't. It's always surprised me that it's not compulsory in the US. As the (sometimes perceived, sometimes actual) leaders of the free world, your politics often have a global impact. But only just over half of you regularly express your political opinions.
Not to mention, ladies. You owe it to your suffrage ancestors! Why so many of you guys don't exercise a basic right (and ladies - a hard fought one!) is beyond me. -
Voting for a third party will guarantee your Mitt Romney vote. If you want to support the Green Party, make green choices with your dollars. I promise if what you want is green policies, then you must vote for Obama. If Romney is elected, you will be soooo far from green! A vote for the green party is actually a vote against the green party. -
If you are consciously choosing not to vote, that is your right. If you choose not to vote, however, you can’t complain about what happens! That’s my point of view. I hope everyone reading this gets to the polls today. -
Today I voted for Obama. The future of the Supreme Court and a woman's right to choose are at stake. -
I'm really hoping I can make it to the polls by 8 pm when they close. I heard some polls in New Hampshire were open at 5 am, I wish Pennsylvania did that. Happy election day everyone! -
Wow, so well said Alicia. Basic, down-to-the-point info given eloquently. There is no excuse not to vote....only apathy. -
I too, Lauren have made a conscience choice to vote for Jill Stein. I know she will not win, but I have to push bottons that will generate a stir in politics. I don't want Romney, but even Romney has a third party to watch out for; the Libertarian Party. This party will also shack up the right. But, I believe in Jill. And I believe that her platform is sound and just, and what I want in a President. I will not compromise the values that Jill and I share. And I will start doing what I can "now" to share her platform with others, in what ever way I can, to make the Green Party a stronger bid for 2016. Ask yourself, "when is the right time to do the right thing, not the safe thing?" -
For imblissful - A president should be supported if she or he is doing right by the people. Mr Romney has decided that he will make certain decisions on behalf of women and stated that he will take away certain rights they have. This will take the country back at least a century and put woman's health at risk. Surely any female (or male) human being cannot support this policy or the people who implement it - in office or not. -
I am also considering 3rd party Lauren! I have a couple hours to sit here and debate about it.
Voting is a very important part of being American! We should vote every year, even the years that we are not voting for a president.
I am very proud to go to the poles and will be so glad when it's over.
Whatever the outcome we need to support our president, even if it is not the one we wanted. If we all said "OK you may not be the guy I voted for, but I support you as a person and our president", rather that placing blame everwhere, maybe we will end up with a president who is proud to be there and we will want to vote back in. -
Oh I so agree it is so important to get out and vote! It is so awesome that we live in a free country where we are able to go vote for the candidates of our choice. You are so right every vote counts!! -
Thanks Alicia! Cynical as I have become in certain ways, I look forward to voting today. My crisis of conscience has been whether to vote for Obama or for Stein, even though I know Stein won't win. My values line up more with Stein's and the Green Party's - and in fact, some of the choices (rhetorical and otherwise) that Obama has made have horrified me (particularly those that seem to be a continuation or deepening of Bush's policies). However, like the commenter above I'm terrified by the thought of a Romney win. Too bad Kucinich isn't running - he's my favorite. Anyone else considering Stein? :) (And yes, I'm familiar with the arguments against voting for a third-party candidate). -

I absolutely agree with you Alicia - apathy is not the right choice when it comes to exercising your right to vote. Many people suffered and died so that the majority of Americans can vote today. If you don't know who or what you want from the political arena - then think about what you don't want, that should help you decide. Happy voting! -
I'm voting Alicia :) This will be my second time to use my right and I'm very excited to do so!! In the last election I was 19 and now I'm 23.
I voted for Obama then and I'm voting for Obama today. I'm honestly scared of what would happen if Romney wins this election. It will effect me as he wishes to do away with Planned Parenthood.
I can't vote for somebody that thinks I am a victim and that I don't take personal responsibility for my life. Yes, I get my birth control for free. Other than that I pay for my own food and I buy food for my mom. She couldn't afford to eat if I didn't help her. I buy the healthiest I can because food is my medicine. I pay many of my mom's bills because she's in debt and I want to help her.
I get grants and scholarships so that I can go to school and that is not a hand out. I have strait A's and that is my way of paying a thank you for the help I get and for all the help I've received. I will make something of my life and use it to do good and to be a light in the world.
Someday I'll be a forensic anthropologist. I'm getting there one step at a time.
& Alicia, I've loved and admired you since I was a little girl
Love,
Sarah -

I DON'T VOTE....NEVER HAVE, NEVER WILL....THIS IS AMERICA & I EXERCISE MY PERSONAL CHOICE NOT TO DO SO. PLUS I WOULD NEVER SERVE ON A JURY--"JUDGE NO MAN LEST YE BE JUDGED!" I HAVE ALWAYS FOLLOWED MY HEART & IN 68 YEARS IT HAS NEVER LED ME DOWN THE WRONG PATH! JMHO.
