giveaway: win two tee shirts from rain tees!

Dec 21, 2011 at 12:00pm by Alicia Silverstone

Rain Tees is a very cool company that sells eco-friendly tee shirts handmade in the USA. Each shirt features artwork from children living in countries facing environmental destruction, poverty, and lack of access to education. And, for each tee shirt sold, Rain Tees collaborates with Trees for the Future to plant a tree in a critically endangered area of the world.

I recently did an interview with Rain Tees that you can read here. Today, they're giving away two tee shirts to one lucky kind lifer! Check it out:

House on a Hill

Type: White Kid's Crew tee

Ever wondered what a beautiful day in the Amazon jungle looks like? Dioner Pablo Cerdo Andi of Tena, Ecuador has given us a glimpse. His words "I love living in the Amazon because the air is alive" inspire us all to become part of protecting this precious and valuable eco system.

Joison

Type: White Women's Crew tee

Illustrated by Joison Canelos of Ecuador, we named this whimsical design after him. The Joison illustration is a bold, bright, and elegant statement from the eyes of a young child living in the Amazon.

To enter for a chance to win these tee shirts for yourself and your (or a friend's) little one, tell me why the rainforest is important to you in the comments below.

We'll randomly select a winner tomorrow, so get to commenting- good luck!

*UPDATE: We have chosen our winner. Congrats Laura!*

The rainforest is home to the most diverse species. Without the rainforest, we would lose all of the species which inhabit 'the lungs of the earth'. Many of these animals have yet to be discovered and I can't fathom losing these magnificent creatures. Also, many animals which live here are already near extinction - without preserving the rainforest they will become non-existent. As a side note...I have always wanted to visit the rainforest...if we continue to allow the destruction to happen, nobody else will ever be able to enjoy the complexity and beauty of the rainforest!

The rainforests are very important to all of us in one small, little fact... They Allow Us To Breathe!! Without forests we would not be able to survive. I also believe that the few rainforests that remain really show the true essence of beauty. Why are we (meaning humans) so ignorant to the beauty around us? Each of us has our own ideas of beauty, some are materialistic, others realize that the true beauty is what was here before us. Rainforests are so beautiful. It is so full of life and so many things still waiting to be discovered. But, instead of uncovering something and loving and leaving it in its natural state and being, it seems that us humans are selfish and must have it for themselves. People need to realize that everything is there for a reason and it isnt going to be there for much longer. We need to realize that everything is precious and should be kept the way it is meant to be. Rainforests are the most beautiful places in the worold and I would like for my kids and my grankids to know them as something other than something that used to be.

Ok, so the rainforest is amazing for sooooooooooooo many reasons! Essentially, the list is endless. One of my favorite things about the rainforest though issssss.... that it might be the only thing that holds THAT many amazingly adorable and cute animals!!! I think I might be a little jealous of the rainforest! : )

As the rainforest is being studied, more and more medicine is being discovered. Who knows what we might cure if we preserve this stunning resource?

I have always wanted to visit the rainforest. Unfortunately, it seems the older I get the less there is to visit. The rainforest is an amazing and complex ecosystem, and has a huge impact on the world at large, but many people forget its importance. There are many portions that are not visited until the moment that they are destroyed, and humankind misses out on so much when we destroy what we don't know. Who knows what we have lost in our quest to be "better," "faster," and to live at higher levels? Animals and plants are killed off for what? For nothing, really. Who knows, the cure for cancer or HIV could be lurking in some obscure plant within the rain forest, but if people don't take the time to study, love, and nurture it, then we may never know how it could save us.

When I was a child my family lived in Brazil for three years in a city right on the outskirts of the Amazon rain forest. Everytime we flew back to the states to visit family we flew over it. It is so beautiful and I can't imagine the world with out it.

The rainforest is important to me because it is so full of life & it holds many important things that we cannot afford to lose like certain plants that could help cure different kind of illnesses. Plus I think it is sad that there is a chance to lose something so beautiful & precious (rainforest) if we do not do something now to save our rainforest.

The rainforest is SO important!! Obviously it provides tremendous amounts of the worlds oxygen, but it also contains so many plants that cure illnesses do amazing things for the body!! It's the home to so many amazing exotic animals and it's simply a beautiful place. It gives so much life in so many more ways then just one, and if the rainforest is gone it's only a matter of time before we are too.

The rainforest is, in a way, the essence of true beauty at it's purest form. It is the home for animals, (many rare), exquisit wildlife, and plants/trees that add to the overall well being of our planet, providing us with not only vibrant colors to look at, but also oxygen to breath. Why ever put a place and people so soulful in nature at risk? We can all do our part! Thank you for posting!

i love those shirts! When I was a kid, one of my favorite shirts had pictures of some of the endangered species on them. I used to spend some of my allowance and birthday money on donations to the World Wildlife Fund and the Nature Conservancy. I don't think most kids my age understood the importance of the rainforests, but hopefully that's a lesson they'll learn before it's too late.

I live 2 streets away from a temperate rainforest just outside of Melbourne, Australia. Its beauty is timeless, the birds unique and its sense of peace and tranquility irreplaceable. I cannot imagine not being close to its towering mountain ash and stringy bark eucalyptus trees as well as lush fern trees. Luckily, this forest is protected and well looked after by both our governing authorities and those who enjoy its beauty. Its value to us is as it is now but in the past it was plundered for its timber - mostly to supply sailing ships with masts. Let us hope that the Amazon rainforest becomes valued for nothing but its beauty - after all, it is one of the world's most important oxygen factories.

The rainforest is not only beautiful, but is a home to so many of nature's most precious creatures. There is a thriving ecosystem in the rain forest which we need to protect and support. Though it may not be a part of our community, is a part of our world and every part of the environment is vital to sustaining a beautiful and prosperous earth

The rainforest is important for the sustainability of our surroundings. All components of the environment are intertwined, meaning that when one subsection of the environment suffers, the others suffer as well. These tees would be a wonderful way to introduce the issue of the rainforest to my granddaughter so she can learn as a child how she can make a difference in the world now and in the future. (Sorry, I typed this entry before but didn't realize the computer was still signed into my daughter's account.)

The rainforest is a gift from our CREATOR and therefore we as humans have a responsibility to care for and do all we can to protect it for our future generations. The many animals that dwell under it's canopy and the indigeneous people who call it home deserve to have their forest respected. The little things we do together can make a difference! So many species are dying out from human neglect and outright disrespect for the beauty and AMAZING life that is a part of this world. We may be many diverse cultures and beliefs but we are all still a part of the circle of life...
