Alicia, thank you for the reminder and the flashback to Earth Day 1! I think people forget that before the environmental movement the skies were dark and communities stank. Mills could dump any old poison into waterways and DDT was the norm! We have come a LONG way, really and if we hadn't gotten off our duffs in favor of Mama Gaia, the world would be a dark smelly dangerous place. I read the blog of an American expat living in Paris who journeyed to rural China last year only to discover to her horror there are no bird or insects. Can you imagine? Empty skies, no bird song, no bees or dragonflies, hand pollinating EVERYTHING. The whole world could be like that if we let our Mother down.

For me, earth day will be a great day of cleaning, organizing and packing things up for the Goodwill store. And doing some gratitude meditations as well :-) And of course a massive plant-based meal with friends and family!
I so agree about the important of community. Right now I'm just organizing a local potluck for clients, friends and anyone interested in learning.

At least 3 of us from our vegetarian small group will set up a table at our community Earth Day festival and we will hand out brochures and some vegan tasters and invite people to come to our vegetarian potluck and check out the group. It is a great way to network with people in our community to show that there is a group that meets every month and that they are welcome to join us and learn about a plant-based diet. This is important community outreach and we make a point of making our presence seen where ever we can so people can see a different way of life other than the traditional SAD that is so typical.
