This is a blog I posted last year sharing eco Easter tips. Enjoy!

Easter is all about renewal and new life, so it makes sense to think about how we can help renew the Earth on this holiday!
There are many ways to honor Easter without hurting the environment.
- Rescue an animal in need
- Visit an animal sanctuary
- Go for a hike where spring blossoms are blooming. Find out what great trails are near you here.
- Give out vegan treats or cook a delicious vegan feast. Veg News has some great suggsestions here.
- Plant flowers or vegetables to harvest later in the year. Find out what to plant in spring here.
- Take some time to meditate or think about spiritual renewal
For cards and gifts, Green Field Paper Company makes tree-free cards and paper products out of hemp. Each card is embedded with wildflower seeds, so you can plant it after you've opened it!
How do you plan to celebrate Easter this year?

2nd Vegan Easter. For family dinners, we always just bring our own. We are lucky not to have to host.
But for the egg, tradition, this year we are starting a new one. We are painting wooden eggs which we will keep and recycle. The plan is for each of us to paint a new one every year, kind of like a new xmas ornament, and reuse them every year.

I really like the IDEA of those plantable hemp cards, but their designes are not very imaginitive. Maybe there's another company with better art and same idea, i'm ganna search around because those look so generic. :(

We are going to spend the day with my parents. The kids will do an Easter egg hunt using the same plastic Easter eggs I have used for years (I save them year after year) and then we will have a beautiful brunch.
I will be serving these vegan dessert eggs:

Here in Australia it's a rather absurd Easter. The seasons are upside down and the animals don't represent this continent at all. I try to explain this to my kids as they are bombarded with chocolate eggs and bunnys, wildly decorated hats and parades all mixed up with the story of a man who was tortured and killed and came back to life...any wonder we are confused! So, we will just go surfing and horseriding, live gently and celebrate every day in its miraculous wonder!

Katie,
A few years ago I found myself in the exact same position and here is what I did. I told my family that I loved them but cooking meat made me a bit queasy. I invited them over to my home but said they could come early and cook the meat dish. They were totally fine with it. I made everything else, set a beautiful table, made Vegan soups, vegetable dishes, divine casseroles, etc., and they all enjoyed not only their ham but a bunch of great vegan dishes and desserts that really opened their minds to the fact that the food could be great. Now when I go to their homes, they even cook special vegan dishes for me so I always have something delicious and vegan to eat -- it's really been a fairly smooth transition. I still wish I didn't have to look at a big slab of ham or turkey on holidays, but at least I don't have to cook them and my family's minds have opened just a bit more. Change takes time. But I don't think you should be made to do something that makes you uncomfortable. If you do, you're letting their food and lifestyle choices impede on yours and being respectful goes both ways. I think there's a compromise in there somewhere. :) Happy Easter!!

good advice stan vincent and smiley! i'll just get someone else to do it next year. i hate to even buy it cause i feel like the bad guy, but i suppose it is like you said, it's dead regardless. poor piggies. thank you both, and i hope you guys have a great easter!

Since Easter is now just days away, perhaps you can cook this ham and ask who wants to volunteer to do the ham next year..and going forward. Maybe you can make a yummy vegan dish that the family would want to be your New Tradition Dish. : ) Good luck and Happy Easter

This blog appear to be dated from December 30 2010, but it look more recent than than... Beside your birthday is October 4... I don't remember wishing you a happy birthday last October, when I say I don't have any social abilities... It's like saying "I Love You", the first time is the most hard...

Family first.....cook the ham. Your family will be there for you long into the future....as for the ham, well..... it will be gone by afternoon.
