Woody Harrelson Joins With The HSUS to Say No to Fur

One goal we have at The Humane Society of the United States is to continually find new and exciting ways to reach people who might not know the dark truth associated with the fur industry – how foxes, raccoon dogs, mink, bobcats, and even domestic dogs and cats are raised and killed, by the millions, and in the most macabre of ways, for fashion.
Earlier this week, The HSUS unveiled a thought-provoking new video, narrated by actor Woody Harrelson, which spares viewers the gory images, but leaves no one in doubt as to the cruelties of the fur trade. It’s rare that we’re able to convey the inhumane and horrible realities of fur production and what happens to animals killed for their fur – live skinning, genital electrocution, pets being killed in leg hold traps – without actual violent footage, but this video does just that. A stuffed fox toy shows us exactly why there is no excuse for fashion designers to use fur and no reason for consumers to buy or wear it. The whole industry is, in a word, unnecessary.
For some years now, The HSUS has been actively reaching out to future fashion designers at the top fashion schools in the country, including Parsons The New School for Design, Fashion Institute of Technology, OTIS College of Art and Design, Kent State University, the Art Institutes and many more with the message that fur is cruel and faux fur is cool. This video now becomes a valuable tool to assist in educating the next generation of designers about the availability and amazing quality of fur-free alternatives.
As consumers become more aware of the shocking cruelty and waste involved with fur production and of the wonderful faux-fur alternatives available, there promises to be even more progress for fur-bearing animals in 2013.

Great video! While PETA and the Humane Society have focused so much on fur, lets not forget that leather is equally cruel. There are great synthetic options available. -
