The holidays might be a tricky time for someone new to a kind lifestyle, so I thought it would be great to share tips for keeping the season kind in a live forum.

To that end, I've decided to host our first ever live chat here on The Kind Life! I'll be chatting with you and answering your questions during a 30-minute live chat on Tuesday, December 6 starting at 4PM PST / 7PM EST. To participate, all you have to do is login to The Kind Life at the time the chat begins, and you'll see instructions for jumping in and submitting questions.

I'll answer as many of your questions as I can during our live chat, then I'll post a blog recapping the highlights. I'll be posting a reminder about the live chat as we get closer to the date, but I wanted to give you a heads up so you can start coming up with questions. I can't wait to hear from you!

I'd love to hear what you'd like me to talk about during our live chat! Share the topics you want to discuss in the comments below!

      hi alicia!

I think the pre-x.mas char is a great idea to keep as all on track;-) as I won´t be participating due to the different time zones, I´ll definitely have a look on the "best-of"! I would also like to know if there is a specific spiritual theory you´ve based "the kind diet" on.. are there books you´d like to recommend to develop one´s inner kindness? or is TKD more the result of your personal experience and choosing whatever felt right for you from different schools of thought?

all the best and many thanks " for the great work you ´re doing!:-)

First, feeling guilty for starting kind of late at 45 to be vegetarian and then at 50 to become a vegan. Second the hardest for me to replace are cheeses, specifically Parmesan and Swiss for all pastas. I am a great cook!!!.. I shouldn't say it myself but I am and everyone JUST LOVE MY FOOD, I can convert any meat eater into a vegan. But I work with a lot of misinformed or uninformed people and it is so hard for me, they talk and eat meat of all kinds, they are from Colombia or Cuba and it is pretty gross what their diet consist of. A way to cope with this will be so helpful, I work for University of Miami for too many years so changing jobs is not an option. Also the misconceptions about Vitamins in general, too much, too little? what is the truth?...specifically vitamin B12...take a look at this article:

      http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/29/health/vitamin-b12-deficiency-can-cause-symptoms-that-mimic-aging.html?emc=eta1

I think even reporters in the NY times are misinformed...

I also would love to hear about being a vegan mom. I understand not wanting to get personal, it's just I have a 5 year old with food allergies, and 17 month old twins, and I worry about the fat in their diets. My one twin is falling off the weight curve regardless of the amount of fatty meat and cheeses I feed her, so I'm a little concerned the pediatrician will say that she cannot be vegan because she won't get enough fat. Does anyone know of any online sources for info on vegan toddlers?

      @Margie Perez

Hello! Alicia posted a few months back about "A Cooperative Method of Natural Birth Control" by Margaret Nofziger. It's an older book and I've really only seen used copies of it. You may be able to search The Kind Life archives and find the post about the book :) It's a great book! Also a good read for those trying to get pregnant (such as myself) just do the opposite of what the book says. Hope this helps.

      Hi Alicia!

I actually do have a question regarding birth control. Is there a "kind" method you use or would like to share with us? I am just weary about birth control and what method to use because of all of the different side effects, ect., on the body. Or if anyone has any sort of recommendations or preferences I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Hey Alicia! I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm 22 and I'm a sugar junkie. It hasn't been that difficult to get rid of meat or diary (I can proudlsy say I'm 95% vegan, even though it is really hard with my routine and the lack of options in here!). However, it's been really hard to kick the sweet tooth, and I can say, very sadly indeed, I'm a sugar junkie. I am pretty much following the superhero diet if it weren't for this. Tried it really hard but after 7 or 10 days I have it again. Do you have any suggestions to help me? Thank you so much for everything and spreading the good word,

XOXO From Buenos Aires, Argentina! Paloma (it means Dove :)! )

They're now in 80% of our U.S. processed foods! Recent, more through tests have shown that these GM foods caused internal damages to mice (sad that they had to test it on animals -_-) and the toxin that is found in their intestines have been found in pregnant women's blood and their fetuses - in a recent Canadian study. I have a lot more information about it, but this is probably not the place to go too in depth. I'm trying to raise awareness on my campus because there's going to be a petition starting in January to get GMO labeling on the California Ballot! We need lots of signatures from California and I was hoping that I could have your support and the support of the Kind Life community!

Thank you! You're amazing Alicia! I hope the webchat is a success so I can see the next one!

      Hi Alicia!

This is my first time writing on the Kind Life! I read the Kind Diet in July after watching Earthlings, and since then I've been 100% vegan! I look up to you so much and I can't thank you enough for writing the Kind Diet! That must have been so much work! It was really well put together and after reading it, you became my superheroine! :) So when I saw that you were hosting a live chat I was SOOOO excited!!

Unfortunately, I'm in college at UCSC right now and I have a final starting that exact time :(. I won't be able to attend the webchat, but I was wondering if you could help bring awareness to a pressing issue that I think a lot of Kind Lifers would find interest in. I'm talking about the labeling of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in our foods.

I have to continue in another post :)

In your book you talked about buying organic foods and I know that is a huge part of your diet (and mine too!). Organic foods imply non-GMO foods (that's our best bet) so that's good, but not everything is organic, and it would be so much easier to avoid GMOs if they were labeled on our foods! Genetically modified (GM) crops were barely tested before they were mass-produced and put into so many of our foods!

I have to continue in another post :)

This may be a bit more personal, but since you have already shared him with this community I wanted to know how you are doing as a new vegan MOM, and of course how Bear is doing? (the cutest little thing!)

BACK to Kind Lifers however....I'm all for finding out a bit more of how this community and the book has affected your life, and maybe share of the 'surprises' you've experienced along the way.

I also feel like I'm always on the 'defense' about my diet too.....not to mention, I have my moments when it's just downright impossible to be vegetarian, so I decided not to tell anyone else. It seems like they want you to be one way or the other and there's no "in between". I do what I like to call a 'reverse flirt'..so my diet consists 95% non-meat/non dairy...but if you are only cooking chicken tacos, I may have a 'bite'! (and then I figure out a way to make it vegetarian)

Alicia, I don't think you mention it in the book, but when you went vegan, did you go 100% vegan, or do you still slip up, even today (after 10 years)? Wasn't it hard for you at first too?....To change so many years of one diet, and just flipping to being vegan. What do your friends and family do as you come around to visit, and they know you're vegan?

Looking forward to the chat....I believe you could add more of yourself to the site a bit more often too!

I think one of the most helpful topics Alicia can discuss is what vegans eat when they are out. There is a lot of travelling during the holidays and that tends to involve stopping on the road, in airports or generally eating in restaurants with family and friends (in non vegetarian restaurants obviously). I just returned from a trip to North Carolina and we ate out constantly. I always found vegetarian options on the menu, but not vegan. What do vegans order when they eat out? In today's society we find ourselves eating out more often and I don't understand how vegans do it (I'm a vegetarian learning about veganism). I feel like it would be extremely difficult to eat out in a regular American restaurant and follow the diet.

Thanks for hosting a chat, Alicia. I'm curious about whether you have another book of recipes planned as your eating habits have changed. You mentioned recently that you've backed way off the sweets.

I took sugar out of my diet well before I was vegan, when I was still a vegetarian, and it's been a learning experience to watch for prepared foods that don't go overboard on the cane juice, agave, or brown rice syrup. Sweeteners seem to be more prevalent in vegan prepared foods than they were in vegetarian foods. You were a fan of the natural sweeteners in The Kind Diet. Have your current eating habits led you to modify any of your recipes? Thanks!

Quick easy meals to take to work for lunch- thats my problem. I tend to end up either skipping lunch or just having some simple rice or a salad, it tends to get boring. Also my kids eat meat and dairy- but very limited, Im the only 100% vegan in my home. What are some good quick vegan ideas for kids?

This was my first totally VEGAN Thanksgiving. All those that scoffed at me loved it. They had their turkey and gravey but everything else was vegan, and they never knew it. Still don"t. I bought a Tofurkey and had three people eat off that. I am soo excited about Christmas. Love making all the substitutions in my cooking and baking. AND tricking everyone is a plus. Happy Holidays Ya'all

This is a great idea Alicia! I look forward to it. I don't really know what to ask specifically. I am brand new to vegan lifestyle, I'm going vegan because i love animals, and also to assist my mental health. I've been diagnosed OCD and have mood swings and irritibility, I'm off my meds for about a month now, and maybe my question is:

"After how long of being on the diet, do you start to see mood stability and a calm even temper?
