Kind Lifer Kathy made some big changes and her life is better than ever!
"In the hope of inspiring others to make a change, I'd like to share my story. The power of a year can be underestimated. Last year I was unhappily working for a large corporation, using anti-depressants and red wine to pass the days. I knew I needed a change, that there was something I was missing out of life.
My first step was to nix the pharmaceuticals and change my diet. In May, I read The Kind Diet and Eating Animals and it was then that I made the decision to be a vegetarian. From there, I was inspired to make other major changes. I quit smoking and quit my toxic job and quit red wine (not necessarily in that order). I started volunteering as a server at a Buddhist vegetarian organic restaurant, bringing people healthier, more nourishing food and educating them on GMO's and the importance of organic.
Back in November, I tried out different diets including a Superhero, Macrobiotic, and Raw diet for 30 days. After that, I never looked back on eating dairy and have never felt better. And yes, like other vegans gone wild, I lost that annoying 10 pounds that's hard to get rid of!
Now, I'm embarking on an organic farming internship for nine months in the hopes of eventually managing an organic farm of my own and working with the surrounding community. If you had told me last year that all this would happen, I'd tell you to get out! I made the changes, some harder than others, and have lived to tell about it. More than that, I feel more alive now than ever! If you're thinking about making changes just know that you can and it's worth it...you're worth it."
Congratulations Kathy!

Great story Kathy! Almost every day my husband and I say that we want to quit our jobs and do something like this, it's very inspirational. I can't wait to read through all your blog posts as well!

Thank you guys for your responses! It has been a crazy year but the best yet :) To answer your question Karolina, lack of funds was an issue; however, with some careful planning and budgeting I was able to have a career which I now love. It's so amazing how one day a light bulb just goes off! Watching Earthlings is what put me over the top. Then I started a blog, a vegan shoe line etc. I never would have guessed this is where my life would be and I'm so grateful it is!

Good for you Kathy!!! I would love to be able to do what you're doing - I love gardening and living with nature - but one thing is stopping me - the lack of funds? How do you do you get by?

Thanks Alicia for posting this beautiful story! WELL DONE KATHY! Big cheers and positive vibes going your way from at least two vegans here in Slovakia! Buddhist veggie organic restaurant, sounds heavenly. Good on your for listening to your true self. Very inspiring tale.

What a great story. I dream of leaving my extremely stressful job for something like this. Someday...

This is so inspiring - thanks for sharing, Kathy (:
I am early on in the transition to a plant-based (/blessed) life - just over two months - and I'm finding a lot of judgment and resistence from people in my life, who I know just want what's best for me (which they think is animal food).
Anyway, there aren't a whole lot of people in my life I can relate to. This post and stories like yours help me to see what's really in my soul - to aspire to live kinder.

Wow Kathy! So young and so inspirational. I love eating a vegan diet. I think finding work that speaks to you, is your calling, however you like to think about it, is spectacular! I'm changing my job because I feel called to do something else, so your story resonates with me.
Keep us posted and I'll buy from your farm, made from integrity and love!!

I love this story, Kathy- you've so beautifully demonstrated that switching to a vegan diet is more than just a way of eating, it's something that has a positive effect on our entire way of life. I'm really happy for you now that you've found your path in life- best of luck for your future!

What a great story! Congratulations :) Switching to a plant-based diet is definitely a transforming experience. In my case, too soon to tell where it is leading me, but reading this experience already inspired me to inquire about being part of a "urban herb garden" - just to learn. Yeah!

Thanks for sharing. I'm a flirt who's decided to take the plunge starting June 1st. I've been playing around with recipes recently and can't wait! It means a lot to hear about others who have succeeded!
