kind eats: apricots are in season!

I love apricots, and they're in season right now...although their peak may have passed already, or hasn't quite begun. Three weeks ago, my husband brought home the perfect apricot. But since then, I haven't found a great one. Maybe the one I had was a fluke? Anywho, June is when apricots and other stone fruits such as peaches, nectarines, and plums are in season.

I eat superhero most of the time, so fruit isn't a big part of my diet, but I love to indulge in the occasional treat. When they're in season, I like to make a few nectarine baked desserts with oats and such. And it's hard not to eat the fresh fruit...t's so delicious! But it's not ideal to eat too much of it.

Don't go crazy with fruit if you are a superhero, as it can cause an imbalance; in macrobiotics fruit is believed to weaken the blood. But if you usually go for naughtier sweets like ice cream, eat as much fruit as you like!

Check out your local farmers market for apricots and these other delicious stone fruits.

What's your favorite way to eat apricots?

Pluots or Plumcots are good too! They are hybrids of plums and apricots. They are really sweet and good. Try one if you see them.

Prehistoric cultivation? I just read that on wikipedia too. I'd like to imagine a dino munching on an apricot.

I eat TONS of fruit. I have about 1-2 cups of blueberries every single day and then anywhere from a 1/2 cup to cup of raspberries, blackberries, red grapes and cherries. Sometimes(twice so far this week) I also have an apple, and maybe eat other fruit like dried cranberries or whatever is in my trail mix, or a peach.

I really like these particular fruits and if I don't eat this way I'll go mental and eat a ton of junk food with lots of sugar or corn syrup. This is the only way I've been able to control myself, unfortunately. I'm getting a lot of fructose, yes but this seems better(and lower in calories) than eating twinkies.

If anybody is curious I also have 2 table spoons plain yogurt, 2 tables spoons(or sometimes 3) of garlic hummus, 2 1/2 carrots(medium to large whole carrot), some baby spinache leaves(not set amount I just eat a handful or so), one slice of toasted sprouted wheat Ezekial bread with a table spoon of raw almond butter on it, water and unsweetened tea during the day(home made green and orange peokoe mixture with fresh spearmint) and hot tea at night(black, green or orange pekoe), soup(homemade vegetable soup that has carrots, tomatoes, onion, celery and sometimes potatoe) or progresso(I know SODIUM) pasta e fagiole, minestrone or lentil soup, and yeah...that's about it. that's a sample of my diet lately.

So not perfect but much better than what I use to eat.
