If you're attending or hosting a Memorial Day BBQ this weekend, you're likely going to have guests who want soda. I'm not a soda drinker myself, but it's good to have a go to list of naturally sweetened, vegan alternatives in situations where soda is called for. Here are a few brands to try:
Organic
- R.W. Knudsen Sparkling Essence – organic and sweetened with fruit juice
- Santa Cruz Organic Sparkling Beverages – organic sweetened with evaporated cane juice (watch out for the sugar!)
- Steaz - organic, fair trade and sweetened with evaporated cane juice...sugar alert!

Natural (but not organic)
- Fizzy Lizzy – sweetened with fruit juice
- Solixir – sweetened with fruit juice
- Zevia – sweetened with stevia
- Izze Sparkling Juice – sweetened with fruit juice. This is my favorite, especially the apple and clementine flavors. Yum!

These three have sugar, so beware:
- Whole Earth – sweetened with agave
- Maine Root – sweetened with evaporated cane juice
- Oogave – sweetened with agave
What beverages will you be drinking this weekend?

How about Sipp sparkling eco beverage...I love the Ginger Blossom made with ginger, vanilla and lime...yum!! And it's sweetened with agave nectar and organic. I love it as a cocktail mixer too :-) with organic vodka of course!

Alicia, I believe the information you have for Oogave is incorrect. They are ORGANIC, not just natural. Also, they sweeten with agave nectar and NOT SUGAR. I was sad to see you say they are something that people should stay away from when I find them to be one of the best soda products on the market (I only drink soda for a treat every now and then but I love Oogave). The agave nectar keeps Oogave low calorie and low glycemic (much lower than some of the other sodas you have listed). Please correct your information as I hate to see great brands get an undeserved bad reputation. Thank you

For any of you that have to watch your blood sugar, I love Oogave Organic Soda. It sweetens with agave nectar, not sugar, making it low glycemic. They have a Strawberry Rhubarb and Watermelon Cream sodas that are really fun for a change of pace. t's great stuff

I only buy sodas as a treat, (when they are on sale), or when my kids are having friends over. They love the Santa Cruz Rootbeer! I just took some of the Sparkling Essence Cucumber to a BBQ this weekend! I generally just drink a lot of water, but this was a good switch on a hot day.

I've been drinking sparkling water and pomegranate juice. Its fizzy like soda but so healthy! Plus, by diluting the juice, I get less of the sugar from the juice (although I usually discount this sugar bc its from fruit)

My son and I really like Izze--the blackberry and pomegranate flavors. I haven't bought it in a really long time, but I think I will for our cookout this weekend. Thanks for the idea :) -
I've recently discovered the wonderful organic soft drinks by the Italian (yep, some national pride!) brand ecor. They have easily won all the family. They're made with good water, co2 from the Tuscan land, and organic ingredients. There's a 10% of organic brown sugar, but that's the worst ingredient. They also have a good price.
They made: cola, orange ("aranciata bionda"), red orange ("aranciata rossa"), pink grapefruit, cedar, chinotto, ginger.
I understand they're avalaible in many countries.
from Europe, you can buy them here http://www.organicitalianstore.com/en/beverages/soft-drinks.html
for sure, they're on sale in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa too.
don't know in the USA.

I don't buy soda as a generality. However we brew about 2 gallons of kombucha a week and this has a lovely fizziness to it and it's very good for you. My current favorite flavor is ginger cardamom lime. But raspberry ginger is my standy. If you can brew tea than you can make kombucha. -

I would like to know what soda type beverages are naturally fermented, so do not contain carbonated water. I have been buying Ginger Beer from The Ginger People, which does not list carbonated water as an ingredient. I think it is actually healthy for you, but don't know for certain. My teen daughter likes it a lot. Does anyone know of any other similar type drinks, that are actually good for you? I understand that the carbonated water leaches calcium from the bones, so that is what is the worst thing about sodas. Most organic sodas that I have looked at still have the carbonated water in them.

These all sound great! I have tried the Fizzy Lizzy and really like it. We have an all natural organic Deet free insect repellent that is 10 times stronger than Deet without any chemicals and an awesome all natural organic Sunblock at econaturalsoap.com We would love to send you some to try. Just let us know where to send it. Thanks!
