Our next book club selection is John Robbin’s book The Food Revolution: How Your Diet Can Help Save Your Life and Our World. It’s a follow up to John’s first book Diet for a New America, but you don’t have to have read that first to enjoy this one. Everything in this book is backed up by scientific studies and research and it’s still very straightforward and engaging.
This book is great for anyone who is thinking about getting healthy, or who wants to reenergize his or her convictions. Or for people who don’t think a vegan diet is healthy.
I read this book a few years after I first went vegan about…fourteen and a half years ago? I’m losing count. But, it inspired me and I really loved it. So much so that I used to give it away to everyone I worked with. When we wrapped a show, this was my gift.
It’s available for Kindle, iPad, and Google Books, for all of you who prefer an electronic reader. It’s also available on paperback in bookstores, on Amazon, and hopefully in your local library. Amazon has used copies and that’s how I buy my books to save trees!
Also, for anyone who didn’t read our last book club book, Ed Begley, Jr’s Guide to Sustainable Living, I just want to give you a little reminder of how great that book it’s and really worth reading!

I am extremely new to this diet. I just read Alicia's book and had started using this site as a reference guide to help me on my journey. So when I saw the book club I immediately bought it. Loved the book. Very informative and eye opening. Just made my commitment stronger to go fully vegan. I have already recommended this book to friends. Now, I am on the hunt for more books for myself. Trying to read and change as much as I possibly can in my life and my family's life. -
It is so difficult to describe in words how amazing this book was. Well written, eloquent, scientific, yet understandable and applicable. The Pig Farmer is a story that could be a book by itself and should be required reading for anyone with a pulse. I would like to learn more about where Mansanto and GMOs are at now and where all politicians stand on it.
I will be recommending this to everyone I know and have already posted about it on Twitter. On Friday I went back to the used book store and thankfully they had gotten another copy in, I bought it with the intention to give it away. -
I seriously loved this book. If I wasn't vegan already, I would be after reading this book! The best part is, Robbins backs up every statement he makes with a TON of evidence from reputable sources. It's so logical! So how can it possibly be refuted? I wish I could get my mom or dad to read this book... I have no doubt they would be coverts! -
I just started reading this book and I must say the little bit that I've read so far is astonishing! I can't wait to read more! -
Excellent book, amazing to see the son of Baskins-Robbins ice cream working as such a strong crusader in this field. -
I am still reading but over halfway done. I have learned so much and it has strengthened my desire to go fully vegan (I'm so close!). My favorite part of the book has been the compassionate tone of the author--it really helps when I get so angry about what I am reading. I need to know more about B-12 supplements because I went to pick one out and there were about a gazillion different formulations. I would also like to know what laws might have changed (or not) specifically about factory farming since the last edition of the book was published. The biggest thing I have learned is about the cancer risks of eating meat, even a small amount per week. I'd never heard anything about it! I'm so glad to be reading this book.
When/where will more discussion happen? -
I am surprised how few commented on this book. I have read so many books on the subject of health and animal welfare. I learned so much from this book. One huge thing I learned was that tens of millions of unclaimed cats and dogs are euthanized and sent to rendering plants and fed to farm animals! Also full of the drug that killed them. Ugh......Thank you Alicia for adding this book to your club. What other choice do we have but to give up animal products? -

I am reading food revolution..wow the story about the pig farmer! Made me want to cry all day. This is a must read for every human being. -
I'll look out for this book, Alicia. Fourteen and a half years as a vegan, very good, Alicia. You are committed to it. Have a lovely day, Miss Silverstone! x.
