Our latest book club selection was Your Vegetarian Pregnancy. It's such a great resource for anyone who is pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant! Here's what you had to say about the book:
From Kind Lifer Gretchen:
"I have heard that this is a great book. Although I am done having babies, I would still love to read this as I am sure it is filled with valuable information. I wished I knew then what I know now...I would have had a vegan pregnancy. At least I had a dairy-free pregnancy! That was 11 years ago...I have learned A LOT since then :-)"
From Kind Lifer Monica:
"I read this book too recently on Kindle, i loved it! great information on what food groups to get specific vitamins and nutrients, I appreciated that info. Very beautifully written, very gentle and calming, I loved the poems at the beginning of chapters. I'd recommend it to anyone pregnant or hoping to be pregnant. Thanks for the suggestion Alicia!"
From Kind Lifer Janine:
I've been itching, badly, to have a baby. I'm so glad that books like this exist. Thank you for sharing, Alicia.
FromKind Lifer Tiffany:
This book was very informative during my recent pregnancy. Two of my friends who were meat eaters ended up getting low iron during their pregnancies, but I as a vegetarian, maintained a healthy level. This book is a must have for any vegetarian or vegan who is planning on becoming pregnant or is already pregnant.
FromKind Lifer Lisa:
I wish I would have had this when I was pregnant this last time, it probably would have helped me so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll be announcing our next book this week, so stay tuned!

Hello
Thanks for the review of the book. I am planning a vegan pregnancy. WIll this be helpful for vegan nutrition advise too? Being culturally vegetarian, having a vegetarian pregnancy is not an issue, but I do need some advise for the vegan one. If you have any other book in mind, please refer me to them.

I am going through infertility treatment. in fact it's my third treatment in three years. 5 years ago, we did a treatment that worked and found myself following nature then. I got the book and only read the part before the month of conception (I don't want to think about it or jinx myself). It is really helpful, and no matter the outcome of the treatment, I know I would have done anything in my power to make it happen. Fertility treatment are so harsh on the body that the only thing you can do outside of the treatment is be KIND to yourself because whether it works or not your body is getting all the stress. Love yourself and you'll love your baby even more.

I recently found out that SURPRISE, I am pregnant. I am a vegetarian and strive toward veganism, but struggle...esp. at family gatherings. Dairy is everywhere. This book was very interesting to me because it addresses calcium and vegan sources and how dairy is actually processed in the body. I knew that vegan sources were better than dairy even though dairy has a ton of calcium. My sister is a dietician, and not a vegetarian, so we have had some discussions about it. She is still pretty skeptical, but that's ok. Maybe in time. Also some interesting reads on peanuts and peanut butter I wasn't aware of. And yes, I find this book extremely helpful. Especially for answering to my entire family who are concerned that I don't get enough of this or that. This book eases my worries and reminds me that I am on the right track:)

Hey I just found your site (from all that baby chewing press- haha) anyway I LOVE it, and am so happy to have found such a great place with like-minded folks. I'm a long-time vegetarian, sometimes vegan (and am pregnant) so I love the sound of this book. Thanks so much for the reccomendation, I'll be looking for it in my bookstore right away.

I am done having babies now also, however, I was vegetarian throughout both my pregnancies and my children were both 8 lbs. at birth and very health. I did have to hear comments from some family members who thought I wouldn't be getting enough nourishment for the babies during the pregnancies, but I had already been a vegetarian for at least 10 years at that time and I knew they were wrong. Sure this book would have helped me make a more convincing argument back then.

How funny! I JUST received this book from Amazon! We have been trying to get pregnant for 6 years now, and just recently did an IUI, and won't find out for 8 more days *phew*!
So please send positive thoughts and prayers our way!

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I think if everyone ate like they were pregnant, we would be a much healthier generation. Thanks for the post! I look forward to getting in on the action and reading the next book when you announce it. Be well.

Iam m not expecting nor will expect a child anytime soon seeing as how im only 23 and want to get my life in order before I bring a child into this world, so there is no need for this book right now. I did however purchase The Kind Diet last night on my Kindle and hope to start reading it as soon as I finish my current book (don't like cutting books off in the middle to start another). I have been wanting to change my life style for a while now, but it has proven hard to do in my current living situation, but I hope this book can help me so that when the time is right I will be ready to do the things I want to do and live my life the way I want to. Alicia, you are an inspiration!

Thanks!! Days ago i asked Alicia about my worries of pregnancy, and vegetarianism, and the risk i've heard that can couse the baby if i didn't ate meat. Will defenitively buy this if i get pregnant. Love it!

Pretty much NOT going to be on this site for a while. Struggling with infertility for over a year now. Very depressed about it. 80% of the content on this site is about pregnancy, motherhood, etc. and seeing these emails every other day is killing me. Thanks but I think I'll find another vegan blog/forum to hang out on. Yes, I'm totally bitter what can I say? This blog has essentially become my daily lemon juice on my cut that is infertility. Great blog, not for me any more.

Books like this would have been great 10 years ago when I was pregnent. I had a vegetarian pregnancy and delivered a very healthy boy. I nursed my son for a year, still being vegetarian. I got a lot of flack and sound back from friends and family about it but the proof was in my baby! He was always in the higher percentile and very healthy!! Great to see how far we have come as a society in acceptance in the past 10 years!
