@susan iskowich: and it's still the same in germany. of course not only because of the price... i would feel guilty if i wouldn't turn off the water while brushing my teeth... and i can not remeber that this was different.

Really puts things in perspective. Although I am cautious of saving water, it's always good to see things like this.

Starting in the 1970s, when we would go visit my grandma in Munich, Germany, we would have to be very aware of not wasting water when we bathed as water prices were very high, so we would turn off the spout when we would lather our hair and bodies, but I wouldn't think twice about running the water when we were home in the states. Same when we hosted an exchange student from Spain in the 1980's. She would turn off the shower when lathering and we would tell her not to. How dumb and wateful we Americans were!
Now, as an adult and mother, here are some things I do to conserve water: typically I shower and wash my hair every other day, turn off the faucet while brushing teeth, planted native plants in our backyard, and try to abide by the saying "if its yellow, let it mellow. If its brown, flush it down." My husband and kids do that too. I'd love to get the dual flush toliets once the ones we have are done with their useful lives.

That's a lot. Thanks god my parents have been very economical, so we'd never something like this at our home. I was taught to save water. I'm very thankful for that!

@ Tara....No that is not disgusting at all. Only specific areas of the body should be kept clean on a regular basis, and that can be done as a "Sponge Bath". What is disgusting is that the mighty Colorado River no longer reaches the ocean because fools want to build and live in the desert and in areas with no natural water. How long will it be before water is siphoned out of Lake Michigan and Superior to supply the Southwest U.S. in an area of natural drought.
The cost of cleansing, purifying, and delivering water should not be subsidized by taxpayers...it should be a user pay system totally covered by the end user....and that includes treatment at the sewer and discharge end of the line.
We will eventually pay for our careless use of the only resource necessary for the survival of everything on this planet. No water---no life.

Some may think I'm disgusting for saying this but I often only shower every other day & only wash my hair 1 time a week...but it saves water & honestly letting the natural oils develop in your hair & body is good for you. So about 3 days a week I get a 5 minute shower or less because I don't wash my hair. On some occasions I may not even shower 2 times a week because I'm so busy.
It also helps if you don't flush the toilet unless it's solid waste.

1. Shorter showers and less oftern
2. A container in the back of the toilet and only flush when nessessary
3. Do not use your hose as a broom
4 Use paving materials that are pourous and/or sloped toward vegetated areas
5. catch rain water in container for gardening
On a different subject I wanted to share this website I found on Facebook on a possible way to save food:
