This is a fun little list of public figures who are vegan, including everyone from former President Bill Clinton to Lisa Simpson to yours truly (I'm number 4).
Who are some of your favorite vegans (famous or not)?

Great article. =) I think my favorite famous vegans would have to be Alicia Silverstone (you) for writing The Kind Diet and creating this awesome website, and Rory Freedman & Kim Barnouin for writing Skinny Bitch and creating the website Healthy Bitch Daily. I also appreciate how Ellen DeGeneres is out there using her fame for a good cause by promoting veganism and I am a fan of Radiohead's music so the fact that Thom Yorke is vegan also makes me happy.

I have to say that the vegans who have most influenced me, whom I admire tremendously, are those whose books have helped me make changes in my daily life. John Robbins comes to mind, for his wonderful books including "The Food Revolution" and others. His all around views on health and being truly at peace with oneself are so uplifting. And Julie Hasson, because she wrote the vegan cookbook that has helped my family so much in transitioning to the lifestyle without having to give up yummy eats-- it's called "Vegan Diner", and I love it. There are many other awesome famous vegans out there, who bravely use their influence and popularity to do something truly noble in standing up for animals, the environment, and the betterment of humanity...but equally brave are the normal every day vegans who quietly go about living their lives trying to help others see the light...one step at a time.

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is my all time favorite vegan.. she's so easy to listen to and understand, she makes so much sense with everything she says, and she's approachable and makes veganism so accessible.. very inspiring :) -

I love vegan chef Chloe Coscarelli! her food and herself is an inspiration to a new generation of vegans.
I'm pretty sure there are more famous vegans out there (or ones that will turn vegan), that we just don't know about yet. :)
Happy vegan eating!

I am a big fan of Dr. Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, Dr. McDougall, and Dr. Furhman...they are using their medical expertise and veganism to greatly help / cure people of disease.

A million years ago it seems, I saw The Smiths in concert and they closed the show with a dramatic performance of Meat is Murder. That prompted the first time I went vegetarian, which lasted six months or so. The next time was in the mid 2000s after reading a PETA expose from a worker inside a meat factory. Again, six months. But I can credit both Alicia and Bill Clinton for my much longer-considered decision to go vegan. I'm over 4 months now and think that once I cross that six-month hurdle, I'll be fine. The positive part about being vegan is how much better you feel than even vegetarian. And you can find a lot of support now for it, not to mention delicious food that's fun to cook.

Moby! :D Moby's blog and interviews were actually my "introduction" to veganism. I love how what he says is always educational, but never preachy or judgemental.
