It's time to recap the month in kind! Here are the stories that caught my attention in May:
Mad Cow Disease Found in US – yet another reason to embrace a kind diet!
Starbucks Stops Using Crushed Bugs – who knew this was even a thing? Probably better to avoid Starbucks altogether.
Calf Escapes Slaughter – Hooray! And thanks to Farm Sanctuary for taking in this brave little guy. He is soooo cute! Look at the pictures on Farm Sanctuary's site.
Scarlett Johansson's Raw Vegan diet – the Avengers star went veg to get into shape for her role as Black Widow in this summer blockbuster.
NFL player goes vegan – Seattle Seahawks guard Deuce Lutui is setting an example for football players and fans...listen up dudes!
Massachusetts to ban food waste – what a great idea...this should be enacted everywhere! This makes me soooo happy. I'm so disturbed by our trash system. This is brilliant! What can we do to make this happen everywhere?
What news stories caught your eye this month?

Thanks for saying that. I take no great pleasure playing the role of the bad guy, but some things simply can't go unsaid. Ironically, he had said some off the wall things on today's 'Aby' blog (such as he see's no benefit in a vegan diet!), and it seems as though he has yet again been banned. Truthfully, he has problems, and it would be cool if he would spend his time on the numerous other sites which could actually be of some benefit to him. Thanks again for the nice words!

I knew I wasn't losing my mind. Usually Kind Guy sounds so much like Cabbage and the others...pure NONSENSE! Norm K, thanks for flagging him. After continually stumbling upon and reading his comments and then wiping the dumbfounded look from my face I found myself without the energy to do so. So I will join the others and thank you as well! I try to focus on positivity, but this guy is SO persistent like you all have said and so off the wall that had to finally say something to him.

He was cabbage1979, ChocolateFactory, KindGuy......I have lost count (not that I was actually counting!). His "comments" are not comments. Rather, they're unintelligible rants and always off topic. For instance on this blog, he writes "Whether it's a lemon, a potato, a cabbage, broccoli or cauliflower for example, in my opinion eating many of them at the same time is like selling ourselves, there's a name for a person selling part of himself for a rapid but short-lived gain like that...". So, he's basically coming on to a website which promotes plant based diets and calls us a bunch of whores for eating veggies. Then he wonders why his account is "mysteriously" deleted!!! Dude, I know you're reading this so let me help you out.......your rants are being flagged as inappropriate and that's why your accounts are deleted by the site admin. There, no more mystery. I have got on his case many times and recieve tons of PM's thanking me for doing so. But you're right....he's persistant.

Since when did this site become a spam of advertisements like what I see here from
lxbsdfd kdsfgddfd & sdgw dfgwe obvious spam with those account names UGH its time consuming enough going thru blog chat but having to sort that junk out too is frustrationg. Just saying. -
Usually Kind Guy, were you previously a part of the Kind Life community under the name Cabbage1979 (or something to that effect)?

The story I posted above just had some interesting info on some products I eat. These articles were really interesting and I am happy you shared them. I pin all your "wake-up" articles in hope my family and friends will read one that will impact their heart.

Alicia- I LOVE reading your blog because it is a refuge on the web and i always end up feeling so much better after i read it. you are such an inspiration and you have really helped me on my journey. i have lost 54 pounds since i adopted a vegan diet in december 2011 (six months ago) and i have about 20 pounds left to go. i feel like my whole world has opened up and i am a much more compassionate person than i was (although i always felt i was compassionate- now i connect with animals on such a deeper level). thanks for being you!

I read a long time ago that crushed bugs are used in most all conventional red food coloring so I can't say it was a surprise to me. Starbucks is just the one that got called on it. So they may have stopped using it, but it's still everywhere else. Best to stay away from artificially colored food in general.

Alicia, I wouldn't be so hard on Starbucks. Insects have been used as coloring for hundreds of years. I doubt Starbucks was the only restaurant to use it. I wonder how McDonalds, etc. color their "strawberry" shakes? At least Starbucks "got" the message and is changing the recipe.

LOVING the Massachusetts banning food waste article...as a lifelong MA resident, I am so excited to see this positive change come about. My town does an amazing job of composting the yard waste and leaves that the street sweepers pick up twice a year. We recently went and picked up 10 five gallon buckets of FREE natural compost from our local yard waste drop-off site to use in our home garden!
