Hi,
LOVE YOUR LIST! Sad news though- Counter closed. A few other favorites of mine are Atlas Cafe and the new coffee place The Bean carries a lot of awesome vegan desserts. And if you love Stogo (which I do), you'll LOVE Lula's Sweet Apothecary!!! And Life Thyme Market in the west village has an amazing vegan selection too.
And I completely agree about HanGawi. The Emperor's Tasting Menu is incredible and I think worth the splurge. Souen (macro plate), 'Snice (curry cauliflower wrap), and Sacred Chow are my all-time favorites too. In fact, my friend is on a mission to find the best vegan reubens and he says that Sacred Chow is by far the winner!

Ozu and MANA were two of our favorites when we lived in the Upper West Side. Also, Blossom Cafe was one of our regular places. It's not as fancy as the Chelsea Blossom, but the food is amazing! Excellent for brunch.

You have to try 'Terri' at 60W 23rd Street, the best mock tuna salad sandwich. Very casual/take out but amazing!!
-
You've left out three of my favorite vegan places in NYC!!
1. Peacefood Cafe on The UWS (82nd and Amsterdam)! They have the most incredible dumplings and paninis.
2.Teany on 90 Rivington Street ridiculously amazing dessert.
3. Atlas cafe on E4th and 2nd Ave/Little Atlas on W4th and Broadway great cookies and sandwiches
I hope you add these, they are wonderful!!

Wild Ginger has another BK location in Boerum Hill. Love the watercress beet salad served with a tasty sesame dressing, the spring rolls, the cold green tea noodles and the mooshu vegetables. Hot teas are quite yummy here too.
In Williamsburg, I like Bliss Cafe. It's a bit hippie but personally I like that. Feasted on their Harvest Plate. Steamed kale, brown rice, veggies lightly sautee'd in garlic, lentils and a slice of cornbread. Wowee. You get to choose a side dressing, but I think the tahini is the one true vegan option. Super delish and if you're looking for a Superhero option, this is a classic macrobiotic selection. Have heard that Vinnie's Pizza offers vegan slices but the times I've visited the choices have been limited.
Can't wait to try out some of the places you all have talked about!

I went to Candle 79 in NYC yesterday with my meat eater husband and mother in law. We all loved it! We had the dumplings and hummus platter for an appetizer, and shared the burrito and falafel sandwiches. Fantastic! The highlight of the day was when Tea Leoni walked in. The waiter said there are many famous people that are regulars. Very fun day and delicious food - highly recommended!

I live in Toronto and will definately try "the beet". I actually just realized now that I live not too far from one. And only a subway ride away from Whole Foods YAY!!!!
-
I went to Caravan of Dreams today on 6th - AMAZING! It's a little "hole in the wall"-ish, but the food was fantastic. We ordered more food than two people should admit to, but the thing that's worth telling you all about was the un-chicken nachos. This was the kind of dish I wanted to re-order when I finished. It was just so fresh and delicious! I highly recommend this place if you're a superhero, vegan or flirt!

You're lucky to visit the Babycakes in NYC... I went on a trip to L.A. recently and worked in a visit to Babycakes in downtown L.A - their new location... and oh my goodness... it is in quite possibly the sketchiest location ever! I would have NEVER have gone down there if I had known how scary it was going to be. It is definitely not a place for two girls to be on their own, and we went at like 6pm too... I was so, so disappointed as I really wanted to try one of their cupcakes, but after walking one block from are parked car we knew it was bad news and had to turn right around. -
i used to live on 30th between park and lex and would shop for veg foods, get juices and use their super delicious hot bar (work hours, work days only). forget the name but it's something like "natural foods" and on Park Avenue between 29th and 30th street. -

I found an article today that states Red Bamboo is now serving meat. Article can be found at http://www.nypress.com/article-20793-flesh-mob.html

Oh and to add to Sarah's Wild Ginger recommendation, there is also a location in Williamsburg, BK. Most everything is really excellent but they have an AMAZING pumpkin soup, it's a must try. -
You mentioned Candle Cafe but don't forget about Candle 79 (the cafe's upscale sister on 79th street.) It's one of the few vegan restaurants where you can have a dining experience. I love souen, angelicas, and candle cafe but not really the kind of place you can take a date. -
Gawd Damn, I'm surprised you stay so fit Alicia. You've eaten at all these places? I've been to a few of these places when I hang with Piraro at his crib. Also, what's a "flirt"? I mean...the way you're using it. -
Great list, Alicia! I especially like Strictly Roots up here in Harlem where I live, and of course since YOU took my husband and me there for the first time, we have you to thank! Another great place in Harlem is Uptown Juice Bar on West 125th between Lenox Ave and 5th Ave. The name doesn't do it justice, because their juices are a small part of what they serve - it's an all vegetarian, carribean inspired menu! They make amazing curry "drumsticks," a great "beef" stirfry, wonderful collard greens and black eyed peas, and even "oxtail" stew, where they use a slice of sugar cane as the center "bone" surrounded by yummy wheat protein. Let's have lunch there when you come to New York! The website and blogs are fantastic, keep up the good work! -

Another amazing Vegetarian/Vegan Restaruant is Wild Ginger in SoHo
380 Broome St
(btwn Mulberry & Mott)
Love it, great lunch specials, cute hideout. -
check this place out
Village Natural
46 Greenwich Ave (btwn 6 and 7th ave)
NY, New York, 10011 -
It's an amazing book! I just purchased it last week and plan to make lots of the recipes over the holidays! Dessert needs to be paired with the words "guilt- free!" -
FYI, Babycakes has a cook book out. I still need to buy it, but every time I look through it I drool all over the pages. It looks delish! -
If anyone is ever in Toronto, Ontario (Canada), you'll have to try Fresh, Live Food Bar, Rawlicious, and The Beet. They are all vegan/vegetarian restaurants and even offer raw food. I only discovered them when I went vegan. -
I remember the Zen Palate on 45th Street being better prepared than the one in Union Square, but last time I visited the Union Square location had closed. -
-
Sorry, the address for Blossom is 466 Columbus Avenue, NYC 10024. I think it's between 81st and 82nd. Really yummy food.
