Sometimes, I get snacky, and need something sweet or refreshing. Here are some of my favorite snacks lately:
Carob Chips - Sunspire makes good dark chocolate vegan chips. You can have a nice little half a handful of those when you're feeling spunky and have no dessert in the house. I recommend them as a dessert snack!

Dried Mango - Those guys are so good; they're like candy. I cant stop eating them!

Cucumber Water - Cutting up cucumber and putting it into water is a lovely and refreshing way to stay hydrated.

A good, old-fashioned artichoke - they're not in season right now, but I think they're coming soon! They're so good!
What are your favorite snacks?

Wow! Some of these suggestions are amazing! I've been wanting to make kale chips forever! That banana ice cream idea sounds awesome! Also, caramelized onion hummus...hello! YUM! I love hummus. Always have some made. Alicia's cucumber water sound great too.
My fave quick snack is frozen mangos from Trader Joe's or frozen green grapes. Frozen grapes are like candy! I swear..amazing!
Also, love Coconut Bliss Nake Coconut Bars every once in a while. What a treat!

I love dried mangos! :)
In the Philippines, we have an organic farm. When mango season comes we dry our own mangos. It's really lovely. We send them to friends & family during the holidays as little presents.
Throughout the year we also dry our own bananas. They're delicious alone or dipped in melted chocolate or almond butter. Definitely worth a try. :)
My other favorite snack is "banana ice cream" - frozen bananas put through a juicer.

my whole family LOVES artichokes .. i made up a delish dip to eat with them .. here goes .. 1/2 cup veganaise, 1/3 fresh lemon squeezed, 1 pod fresh pressed garlic, dash of the following spices: yellow curry, paprika, and red pepper .. so easy and i promise, even your non-vegan peeps will LOVE this! .. oh, and i boil/steam my artichokes in about an inch of water seasoned with olive oil, fresh lemon, sea salt, and 1 tsp. herb de provence

Love dried mango...another one of my fav snacks..is olive oil and rosemary chips. THEY are so good, I only get them once in awhile though, b/c its easy to eat more then the serving.

I'm also addicted to dried mango, I can't even keep them in the house because I will eat the entire bag in one sitting if it's near me lol.

Raw fruits and veggie (I always have homemade hummus in the fridge too...love it with raw veggies for a snack), nuts, seeds and raisins too. I make my own cereal too with lots of good ingredients and sometimes I'll have just a small cup of it with a little nut milk. I also like the fruit juice bars. Trader Joe's has some really good ones and they aren't too high in calories.

Hi Sharon,
I was right there with you, I really felt like I had to learn this new language and how to speak "vegan" the good news is the learning curve is not that steep once you do it once you know what they are and if you like them. Many of them are in fact international foods from asia and other areas of the world.
For your specific examples daikon is a white radish (shaped like a carrot almost) I had it in the healing soup and it did not have a lot flavor (very mild) but absorbed flavors really well. Miso is really just a soybean paste and chances are you have seen it served in soups at almost any chinese food restaurant.
My first trip I put a * next to things I was unsure of and googled them and wrote my own description next to them it really helped.
Most of the non-standard veggies and spices I had to find at the health food store.
Another thing that was helpful was the food thesaurus which explains what most things are and alternatives if you cannot find them. For example Daikon http://www.foodsubs.com/Roots.html

What confuses me are all the "vegetables" I've never heard of and have no clue as to how to prepare for eating. What is daikon, miso, etc??? Whatever happened to normal vegetables? Help! I am intimidated by these weird sounding foods.

we love love dried mango in my house. i was actually shopping the other day in a health food store in the east village (manhattan) called commodities (amazing by the way) and saw they had dried mangoes half dipped in dark chocolate! so yum and the perfect dessert when i'm craving sweets late (pregnancy calls;)).

I too am a nut and seed girl. I usually grab a handful of those. To drink I love lemon water but recently added ginger to that and OMG! So delicious! I also like a bit of mint in my water as well, so refreshing in the summer.

Avocados are my favorite snack food... or a spoonful (or two or three) of peanut butter.
I also keep a stash of "Organic Food Bar"s around, as well as my homemade "Larabar clones"...
Homemade granola with vanilla hemp milk - any time of day! =)
Hummus is a staple in my fridge at all times. I like to add lots of lemon juice and smoked paprika, sometimes a good dash of The Wizard's Vegan Worcestershire sauce, or a bit of chili for a nice kick - plus veggies from the farmer's market - I know it's almost cliché - but I can never, ever get enough of hummus & raw veg!

I slice apples and then dip in either unsweetened cinnamon or Trader Joe's has an unsweetened, unsalted organic almond butter that is delicious and can be eaten plain on a spoon (you just have to watch portion cause it's so good). Sometimes a heat up the sliced apples with a drop of water and cinnamon. I don't eat sweets but some kind of rice or coconut ice cream would probably taste good on top of this.
Trader Joe's has unsweetened dried cherries(my daughter eats these) and unsalted popcorn (both are their brand) which are very satisfying and filling.
I really like the idea of putting the cucumber slices in my water and am definitely going to try that.
Thanks to everyone for their great suggestions.

Dried mangos (without added sugar or sulphur) are SO good. Just like candy and definitely a little bit addicted. Trader Joes sells frozen mango halves that are the perfect frozen dessert...

Yes to the popcorn and double YES to dried mango. I know it isn't superhero, but Alicia, I am obsessed with your Raw Balls!! Also loves me some apple slices and PB (pure plain crunchy unsalted), or raw salsa wrapped in lettuce leaves! Mmmm :)
-
I'm addicted to pumpkin seeds. Just plain chewy pumpkin seeds. Although roasted in "fake" butter and maple syrup..YUM! When I feel really naughty I put some mint chocolate chip Luna and Larry's Coconut Bliss "ice cream" between 2 graham crackers. And I love Newman-O's. Oh, and a shout out to Food Should Taste Good brand sweet potato chips (someone else mentioned them too). What's funny is that sometimes something so simple as a piece of quality bread or fruit can be such a treat to me when just last year I was eating candy bars and other junk as staples. I get a bit disgusted when I think back on that.... (oh, and popcorn! LOVE popcorn!)
-
I am crazy about popcorn made with coconut oil, green tea with an orange slice, SweetRiot Cacao Nibs, anything coconut and all fruits!
-
Some of the best dried mangos, nothing added - Trade Joes - they are exactly like candy. I always look for dried fruit only sweetened with fruit juice (or nothing), but they can be hard to find, and even chains like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's don't all have the same things, bit it's worth looking for them - healthier and tastier. Medjool dates as so many have mentioned, and popcorn with nutritional yeast. Someone mentioned cucs with lemon and salt - I actually love them with lime and salt! Or, cucs in the summer with tomatos from the garden with basil or parsley and lime and salt - so refreshing, or even just cucs with some wakame is good.
-
I love Justin's Maple Almond Butter. I just eat with a spoon and go into a state of bliss.
My new candy bar of choice is the Goldie's Rice Crunch Carob Bar. OMG it's soo good. I like it better than the Nestle Crunch bars I used to eat pre-vegan!

Whoa! thanks everyone for the dried fruit tips. I don't have a Whole Foods nearby, but there are a couple other natural/health foods stores around me I will scope out. Also, my mother has a dehydrator, I think I will borrow it indefinitely *insert evil maniacal laughter here*

@ Liz Beck - Eden Organics makes apple juice sweetened cranberries. They taste way better than the sugar sweetened cranberries I used to buy from Trader Joes. I found mine at Whole Foods, but you can also buy them from Vitacost or Amazon.
-
I love sliced cucumber spritzed with lemon juice and a lil' pinch of salt. I can't help it, I LOVE lemons!
-
I love dried mango! I don't usually feel snacky because I don't really get hungry during the day. If I am feeling snacky though I'll have some fruit, either just by itself or with some nut butter (btw, dates with peanut butter inside are THE BEST THING EVER), or I'll have some veggies, again either by themselves or with hummus.
