Disclaimer! I did this video really quickly, so the production value isn't amazing, but I wanted to share because I think Joel is great and his story is great.
Joel is an extremely successful businessman; his story really shows that veg diets are not just for hippies (but we all knew that)! This one is great for all of your dads to watch. So pass along to papas!
Joel mentions in the video that he occasionally misses certain non-veg foods, so I wanted to share the suggestions I gave him. For days when you're feeling naughty, these might be the perfect foods to satisfy your non-veg cravings:
Chicken Wings - Morning Star makes good chik'n products. And Gardein makes a great chicken scallopini that you can buy in the frozen section at the grocery store.
Hot Dogs at a Baseball Game - Citi Field Ball Park in New York offers vegetarian hotdogs! Dodger stadium in LA also offers a veg hotdog. Woohoo! PETA has a handly list of stadiums that offer veg hotdogs too.
Brownies - Allison's Gourmet brownies are great, and I bought an amazing one from Whole Foods once that I blogged about here.
What are your favorite 'naughty' foods?

Favorite naughty foods are:
- cookies and cupcakes made from the box mixes by Cherrybrook Kitchen
- any of the vegan treats in the bakery cases at Whole Foods
- vegan buffalo wings at Red Bamboo in NYC!

Yes, Michaela, you're right, Barnivore is a good resource to learn about vegan-friendly wines - I use it all the time and help to populate the list!
I meant that I'd never heard that if you make the effort to purchase vegan-friendly wine it would still be considered "non-vegan" to drink wine? I thought that is what was being said...if not, oopsie, and yay, because I love living vegan AND I love vegan wine! xx

I really liked the part he said about putting his health as top priority. Thanks so much for this Alicia!! I sent it to my dad! -Lindsey

Morning Star chicken is NOT vegan...they use egg in them.
Vegan junk food out in restaurants is my favorite guilty pleasure! Doomies Home Cooking fried avocados or jalepeno poppers, Locali vegan reuben and Pure Luck's fried pickles top the list. I like vegan pizza and I LOVE Purely Decadent ice creemz!

My Craving: The Chicago Diner's Cookies n' Cream cake. I get it at my local Whole Foods, and I bring a slice with me to birthday parties so I can have my cake and eat it too :-) As for the comment about wine - I'm not a wine drinker, but there is a website...Barnivore.com...that has list of vegan wines and other alcoholic beverages.
-
I love So Delicious Coconut Milk ice cream! It feels naughty, but it's vegan and so much lower in fat and calories than dairy ice cream, I feel good about enjoying it!
-
Loved, loved, loved the video, the interview and the man.....he was so peaceful, sweet, calm and relaxing! Great job to you, Alicia, for another great video and interview! Please keep them coming.

Such a great video-and I WILL be sharing it w/ my dad who's been flirting w/ the whole vegan thing for too long now. He needs to make the switch once and for all!
As far as the naughty foods go, those darn vegan peanut butter cups fill any void in my life!! Love those things...mmm!

Alyssa Long - its not "nutty" at all to know that drinking wine is unvegan. Google it - many wines are finished with geletin, which is VERY unvegan, or filtered through fish bladder. This is very common, and you can find a list of vegan wines online.

^ Equal parts Smart Balance Light (vegan butter or Earth Balance) w/ equal amount of Louisianne hotsauce. I added finely chopped celery to mine, to get an authentic hotwing sauce taste.
As for the blue cheese, I'm sure they make vegan versions out there.
-
Yeah but... MorningStar Farms chicken nuggets aren't vegan. I did enjoy them as a lacto ovo vegetarian, though. I made hot wings out of them. The recipe is right on the side of a jar of Louisianne hotsauce if anyone wants it.

I have too many naughty food. My whole vegan diet is naughty. :-/ Currently Walkers Frank Roast Dinner crisps are at the tp of the pile.
Spooky - I was just recommended The China Study book yesterday - and now today this video with Joel mentions it! I ordered a copy last night - as I hadn't heard about it before.
-
Vegan marshmallows.....I love vegan rice krispy treats! My favorite chik'n product is Quorn they don't put any seasonings or breading on it, so I can put my own.
-
Pizza, veggie burgers and oven fries and ice cream of course! I think those are everyone's favorites though! ;)

@Sam - I think at a certain level it becomes really a personal decision...I actually have never heard that drinking coffee makes you not vegan?!? Or drinking wine either? That, to me, sounds pretty nutty so I agree with you - as long as no animals (land or sea) or bees were harmed in the making of your food or drink, to me that = vegan. I do make a serious effort to try to have all of my food and clothing also coming from socially-responsible sources (the workers were treated well, didn't have to work around chemicals, paid enough, etc.) but at some point...you will go naked and starving if you restrict absolutely everything to the absolute standard. At least that's what I've found, so I just do the absolute best I can...
Now you made me want a small cup of my delicious organic, fair-trade coffee with a splash of organic, non-GMO coconut creamer. Thank you! :o) haha Flogging Molly just came on - perfect for how I feel when I start thinking about all of the injustice in the world...

I just found a new favorite "naughty" food that actually isn't naughty at all. And...I didn't even have to make it, it comes in a jar. Queso! Check it out http://aveganinthehouse.com
Thanks, Nicole

I just want to add my two-cents, because I have heard some vegans say "no alcohol...no coffee" etc....and i don't agree with that based on my research...... If anyone agrees or disagrees pls. point out reasons why with examples.
- Alcohol is not bad for the health as long as it is all -natural, organic, no preservatives and in moderation. A glass or two a day max. It actually has health benefits (cholesterol fighting for example in wines)
- I have tasted vegan brownies- AMAZING!! (pls. pass it on to Joel Seiden in case he doesn't know of that option) :)
- Coffee- All organic with soya milk and organic cane sugar or stevia etc... is good for you - allerts the senses- but again- a "small" cup once a day - in moderation. Other options- Turkish coffee, or espresso.
What do you guys think ??
Comments apprciated.

Alicia, you are amazing! This is such a great interview for obvious reasons but sooooo validating and perfect to show to so many people that do think I'm just a hippy who needs to "get over it" as far as animal cruelty goes...I love it and have already sent it to my dad - I think this will really resonate with him! Also posted to FB of course...

My favorite naughty food is a Daiya "cheese" pizza with lots and veggies, oh oh and Amy's Texas Veggie burger! DEEE-LISH!
-
My favorite naughty foods are "cheese burgers" from either Veggie Grill or M Chaya here in LA. Also, pizza made with Daiya cheese and also macaroni and cheese and I make at home (cheese is nutritional yeast, tahini, lemon juice and other really not naughty at all things.)
-
A Vegan Chicago Hot Dog at a Cubs game is one of the things I'm most looking forward to about summer.
I don't know if I have a favourite naughty food, but I do love chocolate dipped strawberries once in a while.
