The average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year! People, that is waaay too many trees to be cutting down!
Now, I will admit, I'm still old-school in the fact that I appreciate the hand-written note and keeping a journal. But I always use products that are made from recycled paper! Like these notebooks and journals from Paperwink that are made from 100% recycled paper. They are just so pretty!
Did you know that each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!
Are there any cards, journals or notebooks that you like that are made from recycled paper?

You're absolutely right, Alicia. Germans use very much paper, too. Germany is the country with the most newspapers and magazines in the world. If you would batch the sheets of paper every German uses within one year the pack would be 16,000 kilometers high (9,942 miles). For comparison: The space station ISS levitates in 400 kilometers (approx. 248 miles).

Ooh! I just learned about this company:
And here's a little blurb w/ a Coupon at the end!
Peru Paper Company
produces and sells high-quality, handmade stationery and paper
products from recycled materials, employing underprivileged and
marginalized women in Peru who would otherwise not have the
opportunity to make a livable wage to support their families.
Awesome, huh? Started by Grace Bateman as a
small craft project in Trujillo, Peru with just $100, it now
employs 16 Peruvian women and is transforming lives as they
discover new talents in design and business management, while
being uplifted by the dignity that comes with work and provision
for ones family. The products are great for personal or
professional use and make beautiful gifts and framed artwork, and
we love to do custom work. Their products were in Oscar swag
bags received by Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, Oprah, James
Cameron, Morgan Freeman, and more. Use the code HARO at the
checkout for any purchase at www.perupaper.com now through the
end of July and receive 10% off your entire purchase! -

Here are some Australian links:
I got a guest book made from here for my wedding
http://www.creativepapertas.com.au/products/index.html
They make paper from all sorts of things: apples, recycled cotton/denim and poo too.
Also http://www.studioantic.com.au/ make recycled notebooks and cards.

i use all parts of the paper, i give Product(RED) hallmark cards, theyre printed on only 20% recycled paper, but the proceeds go to AIDS research. when i give a gift I usually don't wrap it, recently i gave Seventh Generation products as wedding presents and put them in a Reuseable Whole Foods bag.
when I need notebooks for school i buy Staples Bagasse products which pay for themselves from recycling my ink cartridges. for computer paper i buy Staples brand 100% post consumer recycled paper. i dont print anything i dont have to, and mostly my professors utilize blackboard so after i type something i can just upload it as an attachment, grades are posted online, sooo much less paper waste.
staples also sells a great recycled content day planner, even the cover and spiral ring are recycled. they do have some great eco-friendly products.. you just have to hunt them down

I just emailed them as I didn't see on the website that everything was 100% recycled. Here was the response (my underline):
"Thanks for your interest. All of the products that are labeled 100% recycled are indeed, such as the notebooks trios, notecards, calling cards, and flat printed invitations (bridal, social and baby announcements). Many of the other products such as wedding invitations are made from 30% recycled paper or tree-free cotton paper. Please let us know if there's anything in particular you have a question about.
Thanks,
Tara and Darcey "

I like the cards from Trader Joes. They are 99 cents!!!! They have cards for most occasions and I am pretty sure they use vegetable dyes to make them.

Destroying trees has also been used in a conflict this week, and without taking sides we should try to heal the harm that has been done;
Yesterday, major #fires broke out all over #Israel, destroying 300K+ #trees. PLEASE visit jnf.org/trees to help #JNF replant the forests!

Elephant poo paper is really fun! It looks and feels just like regular paper with all the texture of a recycled stock. And NO, it doesn't smell!! :) :) :)
