what to do when nothing fits!!!

Ok, so we all know that when you become pregnant, you no longer fit into any of your clothes. I suddenly had nothing to wear at all! So I went to Wasteland and Crossroads, my local thrift stores, or "vintage" as I like to say.

Although Wasteland is pretty pricey, they have beautiful, fancy stuff. They have really nice clothes: well-made fancy-pants style! Anywho, I now have dresses and a sweater, and sexy tops and everyday tops, and they all fit! I spent $400 and walked out with an entire new wardrobe that I will be able to wear well after I'm pregnant, but that I can wear every day. I got a great sweater and tons of tops, it saved me!

etakri8BBjZK1IQlTnvgEt5X.jpeg:Amazon:photo

Now, I just need a pair of pants. Right now, I'm borrowing a pair from my friend. That's the other great thing, friends can save their stuff. My friend Liz literally has a box of maternity stuff. It's a nice, small box she had collected from her other friend who was finished with it, and now she's handing it off to me! How great is that system of sharing clothes? I think that will be a great way to go with baby clothes too.

Have any of you kind moms used hand-me-down maternity or baby clothes?

I absolutely share my maternity clothes with my prego friends and family members. It is such a huge waste of money to buy new with every pregnancy. I also have hand me downs for my children. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Why waste...and better yet, you save sooo much money.

There really is no sense on spending tons of cash on clothes you will only wear for a few months. Aside from a few items (who wants to wear second hand bras and tights?) I borrowed most of my maternity clothes and baby clothes from my sister-in-law and a friend. After baby #2 comes in June, I will then pass them on to someone else.

Hi Alicia! You look so beautiful and I am sooo very happy for you! My best friend Lisa and I shared our maternity clothes through two pregnancies- we would add to our collection each time and just pass it on to the other when needed so there was always something new and exciting in the box. Then when my friend Jamie was pregnant we passed some of the tops on to her (we are VERY tall- she is petite lol). It was wonderful being able to share together. We also share and exchange the childrens clothes and toys as well when mine get too big for them I pass them on to her :)

Luckily for me I only gain 18 pounds during my pregnancy. Because of that I only ever purchased 5 materbity shirts and 2 larger sized jeans. I was able to make it thru with those 7 items and gaucho & yoga pants I already had. I also used a bellaband in the iterim stage of not fitting in my usual pants, but before buying bigger ones. I donated all my clothes to a pregnancy and addiction center I was working for at the time.

Congratulations and Good luck with the pregnancy.

      Congratulations!!!

I've never been pregnant but when I have clothes to get rid of, I always donate and most recently started taking things to some humane society thrift stores where the proceeds go to fund and operate the animal shelter and care for the animals. This is my first choice and Goodwill would be my next. I also love to shop at thrift stores, Goodwill and consignment shops. You never know what you'll find!

I'm 18 weeks with my second child and my belly is really starting to show now. I just visited a friend that is letting me borrow her maternity clothes. It's so nice to not have to spend the extra money and time. I have a lot of friends that have already offered bottles, a baby swing and other baby items that I didn't get with my first child.

Ok, as a (gay) guy I feel a little strange posting a response to this thread, but here goes. :-) When I first started working in NYC, our boss, the Assistant General Counsel for a music company, got pregnant (this was close to 15 years ago), and could find absolutely no corporate wear. After one PARTICULARLY hideous top (I remember it had a bow on it), she finally found something similar to these: http://www.bellybasics.com/getResults.cfm?category=19&cat=kits . They were so popular, she had us running around the city getting her one of each color. They all looked great, and she could pair them with just about anything.

When I was pregnant with my first child I wore sweat pants and not maternity cloths but I was young. With my second child I bought all new but borrowed them out to a lot of people. I had three girls at my work borrow them so they have gotten there use. I am not having any more so I told the girl who borrowed them last to keep them so they will be used again.

My son is 13 months old and he has worn about 99% second hand clothing. I've gotten it all from FreeCycle community members here in Denver. Not only have a saved a TON of money; babies grow SO fast at first, he barely wore each outfit once before he outgrew them, but most of the horrible chemicals have been washed out of the garments before my son put them on. Especially the flame-retardants in sleepwear! We've saved money, natural resources, and chemicals. We won all around by using second hand clothes for my baby. :) His carbon footprint is so little at this point, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Getting a box of hand me downs from a friend is tons of fun-- a friend of mine has a daughter who is two years older than mine, so we get the clothes when her daughter has outgrown them. We love opening that box to see what we've gotten.

Kids outgrow clothing so quickly, it's crazy to spend money to acquire stuff only to eventually discard it. When my daughter has outgrown the clothes, we pass them on to another friend, who will donate them to Goodwill when she is done with them, so the clothes get used by at least three children, which is pretty cool.

Yes- was pregnant in Homer, Ak and the only "clothing" store was fishing and hunting gear! My husband's cousin saved me with a box of cute usable stuff, that wasn't pink or blue!

Baby clothes- for sure! Break the chain of consumerism and buy used- garage sales and family members~ we had one tie-dye baby romper that 5 or 6 cousins and family friends (boy and girl babies) had an obligatory photo taken in- fun!

Our church has a maternity closet where everyone donates the items they no longer need so you can shop for free as your size changes. This year my homeschool co-op had a Mom swap where we swaped books and clothes and took whatever we needed from each other for free. The kids enjoyed their new books and toys and the Moms enjoyed free clothes....not to mention clearing out the stuff that didn't fit. Charity is great but friends supporting friends is just as nice..

Congratulations!!! We are so happy for you! We are working on #3 right now so I'm still holding on to my old maternity clothes. I actually didn't wear that many actual 'maternity' clothes last time. I just bought bigger sweats. The gap is great that. Gap maternity is also very cozy! XO,

All my maternity clothes were hand-me-downs, and it was great! When I was done, I passed them on to my friends. And for my kids, almost all of the clothes in their closets are hand-me-downs, both the kids and I love it. We have an entire system sharing & passing clothes down, even our adult clothes.

Excellent way to recycle & more fun to me than going shopping for new stuff. xoxo

My family is really big (over 60 ppl - parents, children and grandchildren) so handing down things saves a lot. My mom the super-saver taught us all to store and label clothes ("boys, size 6-8, summer" or "newborn, underwear, winter"). The packages circulate around the family (and friends when needed) so they are re-used time and time again. It's fun to see my niece wearing a sweater I wore in 3rd grade :) We also save and pass on other things in good shape such as toys, school bags and supplies. Once a year everyone goes through everything and decides what to keep, pass on, recycle or give to charity.

I couldn't get used clothes from friends as I was the first one to have a baby! Plus, I'm roughly 6 inches taller than the majority of my friends...so that just wouldn't work :) However, I actually held on to a huge bin of baby clothes (infant size) for NINE years and just last month, passed them along to my friend Manders for her little baby boy! She was thrilled!

The local schools here have resales here twice a year. I just had my fourth little one two months ago and I'm gearing up for the upcoming February sale. It's a great way to get gently used clothes and great brands for a fraction of the cost. This way I don't freak out when they get spaghetti sauce all over their outfit. Congratulations and enjoy every minute!

I love trading off baby clothes with my friends. It's always great to see a new little one wearing something that you adored on your babies, especially when the kids all hang out together. Brings back lots of great memories and it's fun to make scrapbook pages with pics of several kids having worn the same special outfit.

My friends and I have shared our maternity clothes through the years! My friend Carie bought some with her first - then gave me hers - I bought some with my pregnancy and used some of hers - then I gave them back to her for her second pregnancy!! Then we shared all of them with a younger friend, Ashley, for her 1st - generations of loving, sharing and caring!! <3
