Ahimsa, one of the core tenets of yoga, is the encouragement of kindness and nonviolence toward yourself, others and the planet (including animals). It's a powerful concept that's easy to embrace, which may partly explain why yoga continues to be the fastest growing sport in the United States (one in which 14.5 million Americans participated in 2010).
People like how yoga makes them feel, both mentally and physically. If only we practiced more (or at all), knew where to take a yoga class, and understood what yoga teachers were talking about, maybe this now fully mainstream activity would finally start to feel a little less intimidating.
Enter alignyo, a free daily email and website with one simple goal: make yoga more accessible and fun for everyone.

Hi
I started yoga classes a few years ago and think it is amazing. It is really important that you get the right instructor, though, as I have had some that are much better than others. For anyone who lives in the Bergen County area in New Jersey, I want to recommend a WONDERFUL place where I go all the time now, it is called SUKHA ARTS CENTER. The woman who runs it, Christine, is an sweet angel who has a sunny personality that always makes me smile. You can check out their website www.sukhaarts.com if you are interested.

I've spent a good deal of my life hunched in front of a computer screen, so when I took up running I soon discovered that my muscles had become optimized for sitting and not for running!
As a result I ended up in Physical Therapy with back issues. What they did to stretch me out and strengthen my core was basically get me doing a bunch of yoga poses.
So as a recreational runner (and a professional sitter) yoga helps to keep me flexible, strong and injury free.

Thank you for the responses, after I exited out (not putting in anyone's email and I didn't see the skip step...sorry!) I did get an email and am excited about it. Sorry for any confusion!

Ooo very excited about this! I haven't been into yoga in YEARS and feel I need a bit of a refresher before I head back to the studio...Thank you!

Yes, Amber is right. You should not have to share alignyo with your friends in order to sign up. All you will need to do is enter your email address. Thank you for signing up!

Sounds pretty cool! I have recently gotten into yoga and am now doing my own yoga practice at home. I love it! I signed up for Alignyo and look forward to getting more information on yoga.
*Kym Frame-I don't think you actually have to enter your friend's email addresses to sign up-it's optional. I clicked on "skip this step" at the bottom of the page and it still let me sign up without sending out any emails.

I tried to sign up, but since it tells me I must put in a friend's email address and I don't like to sign others up for anything, I didn't get to finish.
