Kind Lifer Kasey recently shared how changing her diet helped her to restore some mild hearing loss. Check it out:

"I don't know if you've ever heard of this before, but apparently, a kind diet has reversed my partial hearing loss!

A little over two years ago, at age 36, I was diagnosed with mild hearing impairment. A few months later, I went vegan. When I went back for my annual hearing test the next year, the audiologist was surprised to find that my hearing had improved! He said that sometimes that can happen with major changes in diet, presumably because something in the diet had been causing sinus problems or inflammation. But they told me not to get too excited, because it might be temporary.

Well, yesterday I went back for this year's annual exam. The improvement stuck! Except for one 'noise notch' (a specific frequency I can't hear that they believe to be caused by noise exposure), my hearing is back in the normal range. Isn't that amazing?"

That's incredible, Kasey! I'm so happy for you! If any of you kind lifers have a success story you'd like to share, private message me or post a note to your profile and 'like' it. I may feature you on the homepage of The Kind Life.

I am an audiologist, and I want to point out that there are two main "types" of hearing loss. If a change in diet resulted in improved hearing, the cause of the hearing was likely a "conductive" hearing loss, due to the mechanics like the eardrum or bones of the ear not funtioning properly (often due to allergies, sinus problems, fluid buildup, infection). Often, Conductive hearing loss is temporary, or may be resolved through surgery, medication, diet change, lifestyle change (eg. quit smoking)

Another type of hearing loss is "sensorineural", which is typically a permanant hearing loss, that diet will not change. This is a deterioration or damage to the hearing nerve which cannot be reversed. A common "nerve" type hearing loss is the "noise notch" as well as general age related hearing loss "presbycusis". Sometimes however, this can fluctuate with Meniere's disease, but it isn't due to diet.

The "nerve" type loss is the more common of the two, and again, cannot be reversed. The "conductive" type is less common, and had potential for remedy.

Her hearing loss was likely conductive overall, which is why most of it had improved, however her "noise notch" (nerve related) did not improve.

I just don't want people to have false hope that a diet change will cure their hearing loss, unfortunately it's not that simple.

Healings like these are not hard to believe when a diet change is at hand. I am firmly convinced, both from my own testimonies as well as others I've heard, that FOOD HEALS! Food facilitates the body to heal itself naturally, as it was designed to do. This is why we have an immune system.

I write about how food heals in my book, The ME-gan Lifestyle. I hope you will read it, and that it helps you achieve a more healthy mind & body. The ME-gan Lifestyle will be released to amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com in the next few weeks, & to all major book stores across the country soon to follow. Learn more about me and the ME-gan Lifestyle @ http://themeganlifestyle.wordpress.com/ and http://me-ganlifestyle.co/

Some people are appalled at the mere suggestion that food heals. Why? What are they so afraid of? I think that perhaps they are afraid of change, & are not willing to change their lifestyle, therefore rely on doctors and medications. They are truly missing out on the healing power of food - as intended by God. Medications, I believe, only mask our symptoms and create other issues (sometimes much worse) later on down the road.

I invite you to discover the ME-gan Lifestyle, through the many blogs I have written; they are a perfect match to such experiences as the one here being discussed about Kasey's hearing. The ME-gan Lifestyle is the ultimate in healthy eating. It goes beyond vegetarian & beyond vegan! Learn more. I invite you to read my book! Many blessings to you!

Kasey, I'm so happy that you choose better eating...as it once again, truly proves the impact it has on everyone's health! Good luck to you!

Great story - I've heard about the dramatic effect that a health vegan diet can have on ear infections in childred - but this is the first time I have heard about it restoring hearing loss in adults.

Personally I managed to get off my asthma meds after going vegan - haven't wheezed since. And I haven't had a a chest infection since either.

That is terriffic, My son had who was 18 months and had hearing trouble, he had back to back ear infections , I was a vegetarian at the time and our family had went vegan, and with going vegan and going to the chiropractor once a month, he is 6 now and has never had a ear ear infection since. So going vegan was the best thing I did for my family.

      That is terrific! smiley-smile.gif

I have Meniere's Disease and though mine has mostly resolved itself and is very mild, thankfully, I would think it is also a condition that would respond to a dietary change. I did go vegetarian for a while after a course of herbal treatment and removing the stress that was making things worse and that made all the difference for me.

I think the sinus and inflammation theory is probably spot on. For me, removing dairy has been an important component of that. Even when I get arthritis aches now, they are much more easily controlled.
