Kind lifer Melissa just shared her story about how her kind commitment cleared her head- check out her story:
I wanted to say thanks for writing a very user friendly introduction to a plant-based diet. I've been veg off and on since college (I'm 39 now) and have to say that I do best on a mostly plant-based diet. I am so grateful for picking up your book because there are so many dog-eared pages. Namely, the Lentil Stew and Peanut Butter Cups!!! My coworkers laugh at me for bringing in Lentil Stew nearly every day, it's that good.
Last Summer (2011), I experienced flare-ups with migraine headaches (suffered in childhood and waned in 20s and mostly 30s). From scares of MS to who-knows-what, I decided to really evaluate my diet once again. I've never really been much of a meat eater save for a good NC BBQ (I live in Boston and that's hard to come by) but I've always loved cheese. After some data trending, I discovered that cheese is a migraine trigger for me. So I've cut that out and I am doing so much better!
Like I mentioned, cheese was a huge stumbling block for me in considering a 100% plant-based diet. But now that I know that it is a problem for me, I am more ready to transition fully: IT'S NOT THAT BAD. :)
A life without cheese is still very much worth living. Besides, peanut butter is so much better!!
Anyway, just thought I would let you know that you're efforts are not unheard and I really love all the recipes I've tried in your book. They're truly amazing and delicious. My book is nearly destroyed!
Best to you and your family in 2012.
Melissa

Cherries help too! Anthocyanins are pigment compounds found in the skin of cherries that have powerful pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties.

This book helped with my communication with my hubby and proabably save our marriage . Perhaps if we start feeling better and looking better we have the energy to do more things together, be more attentive in our life, relationships and jobs
!!!!
When I try to explain on my own about eating healthy he really did not listen. It's like he felt like I was lecturing him and he lost respect for me. Plus, I am unhealthy, not well and sick. I am not an great example! Today, I was actually reading the book to a hubby and he listen. He travles alot & eats but nothing but fast food. After reading him the first couple chapters he is motivated to start a vegan diet too! :) I was shocked!!!!!!!!!
He says he tired of being fat!!! Believe me, I heard that so many times & he says he was going to start a diet. But never followed through. I want to be supportive and respected, and I learn to listen and praise him for trying or hearing! Even if am critical, he still try!
Today, he recognize how meat can hurt his body, animals and the environment. Knowledge is power & he says no more meat!!! I told him, I am not trying to pressure him but if you want to be on the bandwageon with me that will be great and make me feel closer to him if we try to get rid of bad stuff! It may not be easy, but it simple!!! My competitive hubby thinks I will jsut stick with flirting and he will be the superhero!!! Go for it, let him feel like the superhero!!! He will reap good rewards! :)

Aliccia did a GREAT JOB WRITING THE BOOK AND CREATING DIFFERENT LEVELS TO START!!! I like the stories and heartfelt commitment to helping others :) Saving the planet and be kind to our animals! We really need to come together and tell our feinds and families about the importance of being good stewards!!! Thsi book I think will help open people eyes!!! I hope one day Aliccia get tv show like Dr. OZ and focus on eating and loveing the planet!!! Our Kids need good roles models like Aliccia and we need set the examples for kids future. Heart felt TY Again Aliccia :)
P.S. Please, please, please create more videos on you and christopher journey of kind life. I and hubby are very intrige seeing your hubby getting invovled as well. He as a question for your hubby? Can he still maintian muscle??? He not a body builder by any means, but he wants to keep his muscles or gain health muscles mass!!!

Melissa,
Congratulations on your success with living a kinder life, and, in the process, healing your migraines. I am so happy for you! I became vegan purely, 100%, for animal rights issues. I came to the connection, between what I was eating/buying and the suffering of the very animals who I love so much, when I read The Kind Diet. I immediately became vegan and continued to seek information, and learn, every day since, and that was two years ago. I refer back to my Kind Diet book consistently, and it is such a favorite of mine that I bought the digital version as well, so that I can always have it with me. I also had frequent migraines, prior to becoming vegan, and was averaging 13 migraines a month. I was on a number of prescription medications. Also, I needed to lose weight. ALL of these things got better as soon as I became vegan. My migraines went away completely, I am no longer on any Rx medications, and I lost over 40 lbs. I also have enjoyed so many other physical, and health benefits....softer, clearer, skin...brighter eyes, emotional balance, etc. I feel amazing and have so much energy. All of this was a huge plus, and I'm grateful for all of it, but my main "benefit" is the peace that comes in living in alignment with my values of compassion towards other animals. There truly is nothing like living your beliefs. I am happy that I came to veganism with the information about eating healthy, organic, simple, whole foods, because that really did turn me in to a healthy eater. I feel so much more alive, conscious, and informed on so many more issues now. I feel awake. And, I feel healthy and strong to be able to do all that I can for animals. This makes me happy. I'm so happy for you, too, that you've been able to see the things that make you feel good and that you are living that. Great job!! Keep it up!!

@ Raquel- I have been diagnosed with IBS and since converting my horrible unhealthy diet over to a more healthy vegan diet, I have not had any issues with the IBS ! I have also experienced no migraine headaches since changing my diet and incorporating exercise (intense) into my daily life. I exercise 6 days a week and follow a pretty strict vegan diet and have never in my life felt better!

That's great Melissa.
I have heard estimates that around 90% of all migraines are caused by cows milk. In one study 93% of participants showed a significant improvement after eliminating dairy from their diet. If you are interested on the negative effects of dairy products then you should check out Whitewash: The Disturbing Truth About Cow's Milk and Your Health.

Personally I'm perfectly comfortable assuming my sloppiness within reasonable boundaries, I'm not a pig either... I'm very happy for Melissa, I'm not comfortable at all with her very superficial attitude, she seem to be a handful, in any case she sure don't have any communications problems with you...

I love this. I'm on your site, everyday, hoping someone would talk about digestive struggles. I've been fighting with IBS for years.....currently having a flare up for the past 3 days now. It's terrible. So I will definitely be trying this type of natural lifestyle. Anything is better than the medications they keep prescribing. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm so thankful for this site. Thank you.
