Here's what some of you had to say about Christina Pirello's latest book, I'm Mad as Hell and I'm Not Going to Eat it Anymore.
"I just got done reading this book. I loved it. I really loved how it went into depth about the history of where our food has been and all the information about various additives. Great read!

Check out past kind book club selections!
"I just finished reading this as well! Christina is amazing, and I'm so thrilled she's nearby in Philadelphia. I plan to take one of her cooking demo classes as soon as possible. One part of the book that really hit me is when she talks about fast food versions of 'healthy' stuff, like McDonald's oatmeal. It's full of additives and all kinds of junk. Yuck. So much better and cheaper to make it at home. This book is a great pick!"

"This is a fantastic book. I just finished it and now it is sitting with the rest of my vegan cookbooks. Her recipe for pistachio pesto is delicious...I've already made it twice! If you haven't gotten this book yet, you don't want to miss it."
- Wendy
I'll be announcing our next book soon, so stay tuned!

Idid watch "No Impact Man" on Netflix and was fascinated by Colin and his wife. She, in particular, intrigued me because it was not her idea to do the experiment, but she completely got on board to be supportive. They both ended up benefitting in different ways, but what I liked was that, in the end, they still decided what they were willing to live with and without. I thought that a nice balance. -
Ladies, I totally understand your dilemma! I went veggie a few yrs ago then tried VEgan after reading Alicia's book but went back and forth after a few months (usually when stressed or emotional). Then a coworker told me his wife went veg for good after watching "MEET YOUR MEAT" on YouTube. I put it on (12min video) while still on the clock at my desk (don't tell my boss!) and I have never (and will never) touch or eat another animal as long as I live! It was harsh and made me gasp, sigh, and cry but was just what I needed to see animals as flesh and beings, instead of dinner. I did still struggle w/ the dairy for a year or two cuz i guess I didn't see or feel the 'using' of live animals for the milk, cream, butter, etc no where as BAD as the slaughter. But now a few years later...I do and am 100% vegan for the last year and proud and happy! I have gained 15 lbs unfortanately in that time cuz YOU CAN SELF INDULGE AND EMOTIONALLY EAT VEGAN JUNKFOOD!!!!! I found the yummiest swaps and fill in's for 95% of my previous diet : ( However, now I'm aiming toward a more WHOLE FOOD route but still struggling. Bottom line....I DO NOT NEED ANIMALS OR THEIR PRODUCTS TO SURVIVE OR BE HAPPY...finally!

Stephanie. Thanks for what you wrote. I actually tried veganism a little over two years ago after seeing Alicia on Oprah. I bought her book and that was a big help even though I didn't like reading the part about what happens to animals. Unfortunately, I only lasted about 8 months, from February until sometime late October. I find that I am an emotional eater and when it gets to be around winter I really turn to food for comfort. I have been seriously thinking about going back but starting out with a vegetarian diet first. I can't believe how good I felt when I was eating a vegan diet. Every time I see a semi hauling animals I have to turn my head and try not to cry because I know where they are going. I'm at the point where I think it's time to change, for good.

Stephanie makes a wonderful point. As devastating as it is to be exposed to the horrific reality of the meat & dairy industries, it is important that we be witnesses for the animals....so that we may never forget our mission to make their lives better by someday eliminating these industries forever.

My boyfriend is a technician and recently had to do a job at a slaughterhouse. He actually witnessed several pigs being "put" down (that's putting it mildly). It was so horrible he had a hard time discussing it. I absolutely hate the maltreatment of animals in the meat industry. It's so sad how they treat those animals and put them down! It hurts my heart..

Tracy, I understand where you're coming from because i'm the same way. I get SO upset when I have to see or hear about any animal abuse. However, if you are at any way on the fence about becoming a vegan you really need to see/read about it. Even if you have before you should do so again. Our society has such an out of sight out of mind mentality that it's easy to say one thing and do another. I was guilty of it myself! Any time I have any thought about eating animal products (which is rare now) I remind myself of what i've seen and read.

I think I nees to read the book. I hope there are no horror stories of what they do to animals in there though, I don't like the mental image that conjures up.
