Girls Gone Green! This is such an inspirational book for young people and adults alike. I'm loving it, and I can't wait to hear what you think! Here's an excerpt:
Girls Gone Green
By Lynn Hirshfield
Over the last four years, I have had the honor and pleasure of meeting so many young people working on a vast spectrum of environmental initiatives, and a majority of these young green activists are girls. Perhaps it is natural for girls, who may one day be mothers, as well as working professionals, to feel especially nurturing. Some of the young women profiled in this handbook have earned national recognition for their achievements, while others are making strides on more local levels. Some are packing up for college, while others are still packing their lunches for elementary school. Each and every one of the girls profiled in this book is an eco hero who offers hope and direction for her generation.
I hope you find this book inspiring! You can find new or used copies here, or you can always check your local library. As you read, add your thoughts and questions to the comments below. I'll compile them and post some of your feedback in a month.
Happy reading!

Just curious...nothing really about this book but I noticed that Hayden P is endorsing it...she is a spokesperson for Nutrogena which is owned by Johnson and Johnson, correct? They DO still test on animals, do they not?

Just started to read the book afew days ago and I cannot put it down. I quit eating meat and I do not feel much of a difference yet but maybe because I very seldom ate red meat. I mostly ate seafood and chicken but not everyday. The hard part for me is going to be giving up cheese as I feel hungry if I do not eat a slice or two of cheese everyday. I want to recommend a very good documenatary titled "Forks over Knives" that actualy led me to this book as I started to make more research on the plant based diet. You can find it on Neflix. Enjoy and happy to be part of this.

So cool. I think the next generation is really going to be able to make change in the world of health & environment if they want to.
@ Kat Kastan: I am interested in hearing your story of how you created institutional change within your daughter's school system. Please message me or reply in the comments. Thanx :)

I read the book it was at my local library. It's definatly a book for young girls and it is inspiring to see them take charge and fight for what they believe in. Sometimes I worry with the internet, phones, video games and other distractions if young people actually care what is going on around them. This book gives me hope that they do.

Aww this isn't on Kindle?! I send a request to the publisher for it to be avaliable as an ebook. I guess for smaller books its more difficult to get as ebooks??

Great book! You can get it at Glittering Conscience 96 West Houston St NY if you're in the area. It's one of NYC's first completely Earth-friendly boutiques.

This website, the recommendations and ideas have changed the way I live my life, not just what I eat, but what I wear, where I shop and well, WHO I am. After 21 years of drinking bottled water today my tap water filtration system was delivered to my house, I am a self-admitted water snob! I nearly cried - I am canceling my bottled water tomorrow! FYI - it is the best countertop filtration on the market, rated by consumer reports - Auquasana, and if it can get tap water down me, trust me it is worth every penny and they throw in a glass bottle! Thanks Kind Life!

I just ordered this from Amazon as well. I'm looking forward to sharing this with my three daughters. =)

Hi I was actually wondering how you go about putting a book on the site for others to see or purchase?
If anyone has the blueprint on how to do this I would be thrilled to know!
Thank you very much,
Lynn

that book, Girls Gone Green, sounds very interesting...I have been trying to be green for a long time...I bought a sewing machine on sale so I could make my own cloth, reusable bags...the cloth bags I have already made are so nice to use...so much better than plastic bags and more durable...I am always trying to find ways to be more green...waste not want not...that is my motto...lol

Just like Breanna, I ordered this book used from Amazon for a penny plus $3.99 S&H. I'm looking forward to reading it and chiming in on the discussion.

Love that really young people are paying attention to environmental issues. They will one day be running the world & hopefully be practicing kinder, less wasteful & healthier ways. Hope to find a copy of this book to read for myself.
