Vegan Shoes from Performers

Jan 22, 2013 at 5:53am by Alicia Silverstone

I got to try some super cute vegan shoes during my costume fitting for The Performers! I didn’t end up wearing these (I wore a simple vegan black pair), but they were so cute I wanted to share. You can find these styles and similar vegan footwear at Zappos, Amazon, Modcloth and Lulu. I’ve also listed the labels below.

1. Melissa – peep toe pumps
2. C Label – pumps with a bow
3. Not Rated – lace up loafers

I wear a 12-13 wide (women's). I really wish I could find vegan shoes that weren't sneakers (or men's shoes). I hate wearing leather, but can't find shoes that I can wear to work that fit and are vegan. It is beyond frustrating! Tall women don't all like killing animals, ya know! But, we also can't always wear sneakers and men's shoes (never mind not wanting to have to). I want to be female and not have to kill animals to do it - in my size 12+ feet. That really shouldn't be too much to ask. But, I do love that vegan shoes have gotten stylish and oh-so-cute ... it's great for everyone who can find their size!

I appreciate the thought, but none of the shoes shown on that site come anywhere close to my size. I wear a 45 in european sizes. Sometimes I can get away with a 44. All of those styles stop at 42. Apparently the world of vegan footwear believes that women with large feet should just wear men's shoes. And, really, it is only fairly recently that the NON-vegan footwear industry realized the error of that point of view. I hope that changes eventually.

Olsen Haus Vegan Footwear + Cri de Coeur Ethical Footwear are two of my favorite vegan lines, both founded by women who love animals. So many beautiful designs. Recycled televisions are now uber cute shoes. How wonderful is that?

Here's a quick peek at some of the boots, flats + heels:

Gee...I never thought to search Amazon for vegan clothing. Zappos definitely has a good selection of men's shoes. But, what I'm excited about is Zappos also has a few Men's belts made of something other than leather. It's sooo sad when I go to Macy's, Penny's, etc. and see racks of hundreds of belts all made of leather. I went without a belt for years then made my own out of suspenders.

If you are in the Boston area I recommend visiting Sudo Shoes (http://sudoshoes.com). They don't have an online shop yet, but if you contact them they will send you some info on their all vegan store which includes several belt items including one which has replaceable buckles (I have several in my collection which I now plan to inflate).

Totally melting over the vegan shoes section of Lulus.com! Too bad I'm in the UK :/ and living on a student budget. I would love to walk in to my very own walk in wardrobe and see a few rows of shoes like that! Just knowing that they're kind as well as pretty would be <3 I avoid leather and other animal-based materials, but as they don't mark it vegan I can't be sure that my current shoes are 100% vegan.

In the UK I love Bourgeois Boheme. Dream shoes are from Beyond Skin, Green Shoes and Stella McCartney but, although it's a close call, paying the bills and paying for food win over buying beautiful shoes!. Airseal are great vegan Dr. Martens replacements.
I would love to make a trip to Moo Shoes in New York.

As a working girl (flight attendant)who has to adhere to a uniform policy it's very hard to find comfortable shoes u can wear up to 12hrs. Dansko is making a vegan shoe that is in uniform compliance, but it's so ugly. Would like to see some simple black pumps or some boots without straps or a bunch of metal decoration. Wishing for some vegan working shoes....

The shoes pictured aren't my style, but I clicked through and found some super cute shoes on their websites. Not having any luck finding out how these shoes are made (or in some cases where they are made). C Label seems to shoes made in China (are they using Vegan glue also). Not Rated is a "California Brand" (but are they made in California? It would be awesome if you can post "super vegan" shoes. No animal products, eco friendly with no synthetic materials that are manufactured in a way that causes stupid amounts of pollution, made in a facility that is respectful of human rights and worker rights (no sweatshop shoes). It's a tall order, but I know there must be something out there.

If you're in NYC, a visit to MooShoes on Orchard Street is a must: the store carries several terrific brands of vegan shoes. My favorites include Novacas, Vegetarian Shoes (both also make shoes for men). Milk and Honey online will make vegan shoes you can design yourself -- which turned out to be a great option when I was looking for a pair of nude-colored pumps. Although the vegan option is not readily apparent on the site, all you have to do is ask :)

There are many vegan brands, a few include Macbeth, Neuaura, Olsenhaus, Dansko (has a comfortable vegan line), Birkis (professional clogs), Mel, Havaianas, and Ecco (non leather line of comfortable walking and running shoes). My wife and I own a vegan friendly shoe store in St Augustine, FL called Kind Walking and have all these brands available. Our website is still under construction www.kindwalking.com but we already have available several vegan Dansko's (comfort can be vegan!) under "shoes". Also, you can call us at (904)829-3535 and we offer free shipping!

I recently purchased a pair of short lace-up boots by Novacas (Spanish/Portuguese for "no cow") and love them so much I've ordered two more pairs in different styles! The soles are extremely sturdy (I often find the cheaper synthetic boot soles wear very quickly) and, overall they are very well-made shoes by a "kind company". I can't wait to get my new shoes in the post!
