This is a much healthier “French toast” you can have as a breakfast, snack or dessert.

Ingredients:
1 package of raisin-cinnamon flavored mochi (Grainaissance makes a nice version), cut into 1” x 2” pieces
1-2 tsp sesame or olive oil
Brown rice syrup (about 1 Tbsp per serving). The maple-flavored brown rice syrup is even better for this, but the regular kind is good too.
Directions:
Put the oil in a cast-iron or stainless steel frying pan over low heat. Place the mochi pieces into the pan, making sure they don’t touch. Cover and cook for about 3-4 minutes. Flip the mochi, cover, and cook for another 3-4 minutes. It’s done when the mochi puffs up or softens.
Serve the pieces onto a plate, then top with brown rice syrup. If you want to get really fancy, you can use Suzanne’s Maple Brown Rice Syrup. Delicious!
How do you like your mochi?

Oh. My. Yum. Just tried this for a perfect Sunday breakfast! Especially satisfying since I have been craving some sort of french toast rendition, and this totally delivers. I am going to be obsessed. -
YUM! My mama use to make us Mochi waffles when I was a kid. She actually cut them into think strips and used an actual waffle iron (greased of course). I tried this reciepe that way and it worked like a charm. Just another way to get to a yummy end result. Mama is always right after all... -

I've never tried flavored mochi, but this looks like a great recipe to try that out. Will add to the list!! Thanks for sharing ... -
that recipe looks delicious, Alicia...I try to create nutritious vegan meals all the time and I'm getting very good at it through trial and error... -

Oh, this sounds very decadent! I love cinnamon raisin mochi baked in the oven, and I prefer to pan fry the plain mochi. -
I actually love to bake the mochi squares in the oven on a non-stick baking sheet. It's a little bit easier and just as delicious. You can even stuff the mochi with Tofutti "Better Than Cream Cheese" before drizzling the maple syrup over it. -

Oh this sounds delicious! So glad to know that about olive oil because I use it to cook with. Guess I better switch to coconut oil. Thanks. -
Be careful with brown rice syrup it has high levels of arsenic - http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/high-levels-arsenic-foods-dangerous-brown-rice-syrup-study-shows-harmful-health-15701513 -
Sounds yummy, but can this site start to acknowledge how bad some oils are at high heat? Olive oil should NEVER be heated - it becomes hazardous to your health! Use a high heat oil, such as coconut or safflower. Olive oil is wonderful but should never feel the heat.
