How often do you think about your beverage choices?

Did you know that by choosing healthier beverages, you can help meet your daily vitamin intake while quenching your thirst?

Tropicana Trop50 contains 50% less sugar and calories, and each 8oz glass provides 100% of your daily amount of Vitamin C to help support a healthy immune system. It’s as simple as that! Plus, it’s a good source of potassium and vitamins A and E.

You can opt for the goodness of Trop50 in one of three fun flavors: No Pulp, Some Pulp or Red Orange.

Each one is made with real, fresh oranges and contains no artificial sweeteners. Opt for classic orange, or try something different and more exotic with the Red Orange flavor. Red Orange combines traditional oranges with Italian blood red oranges.

I understand some of the criticism on here, but I think it misses the point: We are trying to enact change. Do we want to be an exclusive club or do we want to bring more people into a "kinder" way of life? As Alicia's already pointed out, what she personally posts is representative entirely of her but the company that pays for this blog might advertise products that are not perfect, but are respectable enough for conscious consumers, to be on this blog.

This is where I diverge from the purists; I think that while we should always be searching out for the most humane products and should use our own buying power only on products and their parent companies that we are ethically aligned with, I also want to change the greater culture and that means working with where we are, now. That means steering less than vegan-devout consumers towards the most humane an eco-friendly products that parent companies distribute or produce. Eventually, these companies will see where public sentiment is turning, notice the lost sales from strongly conscious consumers who couldn't even get on board with buying their greenest, cruelty-free products because of some affiliates and behavior in certain markets. When combined -- mainstream and indies -- the message gets across: You need to change to accommodate us or you will continue to lose sales. This is how you tackle less than stellar policies from big companies and accept that even imperfect consumers can make a difference. There are different kinds of people; some people are very conscious and don't need any incentive to do it, some people get inspired to follow the lead of those they admire, some people will only buy what's cheapest and most accessible -- but will choose a kinder option, if given the chance. When talking about massive, amoral corporations (the ones capable of doing the most damage), that chance only comes up if consumers show there is a profit incentive to go greener and cruelty-free. We can be idealistic but pragmatic about achieving change, too.

Actually my food intake is excellent ....I have no specific allowance or selection of food....everything in MODERATION. This has allowed a lifestyle of exercise over six and a half decades ( running earlier on "with no one chasing me", weight training, cycling, eliptical and treadmill use, heavy physical labour, and so on ). Moderation is the key....too much of anything is not good for the human body.
A kind life also extends beyond the "Self", to volunteering to help those less fortunate, shoveling snow ( frozen rain for those in warmer climes )in a neighbour's walkway, assisting the handicapped anywhere, just generally helping others who require assistance.

Stan, you're in the wrong place and you're having the wrong discussion.

There is plenty of evidence that a natural, vegan diet increases life expectancy and quality of life. That is what this website is about.

My issue with the original post is that it's not in line with the core philosophy of The Kind Life or The Kind Diet, which focuses on health and well-being of people and the planet. A philosophy which mirrors my own. If your argument is that I shouldn't have this philosophy to begin with, I have nothing further to say to you.

The current average life expentancy of men is 76.2 and 81.3 in the US. There is no scientific proof whatsoever that a Vegetarian food intake increases that span. Everyone is susceptible to life's stresses and interactions. Vegetarians, Vegans, consummers of animal products....all end up in the obituary column in the same age range. Notably, most, if not all who do survive into the eighties, nineties and hundreds, were consummers of all foods. Armies, it is well known, march on their bellies.
I have no problem with anyone's chosen food lifestyle....just don't present it as the be all and end all to the human condition. There are way to many other factors in the human journey...attitude, stress ( major factor ),family, friends, education, exercise or lack thereof, living conditions, the truly big one "Money", where one works and under what conditions, and numerous others.

FYI- you are wrong... Heart disease is the #1 killer in the USA (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/lcod.htm/) . Heart disease is PREVENTABLE by enjoying a MEAT FREE and Dairy FREE DIET. http://www.livestrong.com/article/70271-sources-ldl-cholesterol/ LDL is the BAD Cholesterol. It sticks inside of your arteries and then sloughs off, blood cells form a clot and bam - heart attack. You do not get the extra cholesterol if you eat a Vegan Diet. Go troll somewhere else. You sound like an idiot especially when speaking with those of us who have STUDIED our lifestyle and food choices and have done much research about diet and healthy lifestyle.

So sad....that little diatribe has probably cost you five years of your life from stress. I suggest a herbal tea followed by a valium or two. I would suggest a high colonic followed by a ten mile march...however that would subject others to a sight no one should witness. By the way...you left out the purposeful ingestion of smoke....30% of deaths caused by Coronary artery disease is attributed to smoking ...but then again you already knew that...just forgot to mention it. I still suggest that valium though, after all it was the "Popcorn" of the seventies.

Stan Vincent, did you know that people will tell themselves that their lifestyle choices "don't matter in the long run" so they don't have to feel guilty about knowingly setting themselves up for a lifetime of illness and greater physiological health and disease risks? Because "everyone dies" or "everyone gets cancer" or some other BS phrase? What you eat affects how you feel, which affects your quality of life. You can be 75 and able to run marathons, or you can be 75 and unable to breathe without assistance. And you get to choice, every single day of your life, which of these you want to be.

What you eat will absolutely affect your life and health. Having "paid one's dues," has nothing to do with how you treat your body or your health. Let alone the environment--a 75 year old eating all the garbage you mentioned certainly isn't do anything at all with the planet in mind, or are you implying they shouldn't care at that age?

If you don't want to take care of yourself, that's fine. But don't try to convince other people to make "compromises" on their health because you personally don't think it's a big deal.

@ Thrones.....Well then, a person like myself, when given blueprints for a house when I wanted to build a boat....would build a Houseboat. Life is a compromise......did you know that if a person attains the " ripe " old age of seventy five, virtually nothing that that person ingests as food ( burgers..fries...hot dogs, pizza with pepperoni, and my favourite..anchovies ) will have any effect on the rest of their time on this planet. At seventy five one has paid their dues, so to speak, and has lived a lifestyle that led to such an age. I am not talking about a seventy five year old on life support here...I mean a healthy person. Nothing is forever...not life, beauty, our planet, our sun (the true giver of life),or the universe. Bug Bunny reamains correct when he said: "Why worry...nobody get out alive"

That is simply not true. You can prevent Heart disease, the number ONE killer in the USA by maintaining DIET. It is also provent that following a Macrobiotic diet can cure and prevent a lot of illnesses. You are a pawn sucked into the BIG BOX CORPORATION and Dairy/meat farmer advertisements. Funny, go ahead a roll the dice. Me, I prefer to have some control in my own fate.

I'm going to assume that our planet will, at least, survive as livable for the life that is on it, for as long as our sun burns. If that's the case, then my choices will influence the quality of life for people who come after me. They will have access to recorded history that shows exactly how nourishing this planet has long been for human life and they will wonder why we did or why we didn't consider them.

None of us live forever, that is true. You can be a nihilist if you wish. If it's so pointless to do anything, why are you even interacting with other humans on this blog; what's the point? Maybe you get pleasure from annoying others, which goes to show that you still need other people for your own satisfaction in life, devious as it may be. You do care, as much as you my not like to admit it.

There are many reasons why people become vegetarians and become conscious of their consumption habits. It usually has to do with quality of life, for humans, animals or both. No matter how you look at it, meat production causes pollution and pollution causes human suffering. You may have a devil-may-care attitude and believe joy is found in absolute freedom. Well, any experience you've had with absolute freedom, has existed in a very privileged time; you've had the "freedom" of drinking water when you've wanted it (I'll assume clean water) running free while breathing in relatively clean air and not be forced to spend day after day, cowering indoors to avoid the new climate catastrophe of the day. You've been an innocent. Many of us would like a future for humanity that doesn't mean an eternity of short, miserable human lives. That's why we care about not destroying our environment; not because Earth will last forever but because we want it to be a freeing, nurturing place or human life, as long as it possibly can. We have the power to influence future scenarios and that's exhilarating.

You don't have to care. You can pretend to be a neutral, free spirit, but you've already decided not to be, by typing a comment on this blog. Now, you're involved. If it were you in the future, living your limited life, don't you think you'd appreciate past generations caring, just a little, about how their behavior would allow you to live? If everything is pointless, anyway, then you can be aggressively destructive and pointless and non-destructive and pointless. Leave those who want to be non-destructive, alone. Your "freedom" is getting in the way of theirs and you're the aggressor, here.

This is such a myoptic view of planet earth and its occupants that it does not warrant a response. "Innocent" and "absolute freedom" are ridiculous to say the least, but cowering from new climate catastrophe...Hmmmm...sounds like the earth is already doomed from your point of view.

I had hoped this was already clear, but given your comments I want to make sure that you all know that sponsored posts here are not endorsements. I endorse wholeheartedly every blog that I write (under the title they say "By Alicia Silverstone") and I even review (and sometimes edit) all guest blogs to make sure that they are in line with what The Kind Life and The Kind Diet is all about. So, it's almost like it's me... And my book is, of course, all me. That's it. Anything that comes from "The Kind Life" is supported by my company, but not my personal endorsement.<br><br>

I don't always use the products that sponsor the site, but if they're vegan and they want to help keep us running, and they are helpful for flirts and vegans, I'm happy to have them share their product with you all, through information and often great discounts and giveaways. But unless I write something specific from me about the company, it's just an advertisement.<br><br>

I also wasn't aware that Trop50 was part of Pepsi Co., but I'm not sure what I would have done if I had. I will write a full blog on this later. Remember, Boca Burger is owned by Kraft Foods.

Well, if the bottom-line is "We have to have unkind sponsors to keep the site running," I'm afraid I'll have to bow out. This was a good discussion for all involved, but what personally frustrated me were the users who were saying "it's just orange juice, it's no big deal," or criticizing our "extreme diets". The whole point of The Kind Life is to emphasize leading a kind life. And I'm sorry, but if that has to be jeopardized for "flirts," than I don't think it's the right website for me--an extremely health-conscious vegan.

As far as I'm concerned, this may as well have been an ad for Oreos. Sure, they're garbage for your body, but at least they're vegan.

And kim k--a lot of the content in your post was almost condescending. You're saying how we're being negative, when we're simply expressing disappointment. Then you go on to say that you live as healthy as you can, but that it's okay to have a sugar cookie or a soda or whatever every once in awhile. That, to me, is absolutely not okay. It's fine that you do it; people make their own decisions. But you imply that people who follow The Kind Life shouldn't be concerned with this Tropicana ad because, as you say, "everything in moderation". I don't want to be "moderately" healthy.

I don't understand how it's beneficial to post an ad like this specifically for flirts. It gives them the wrong idea. It's like teaching someone to build a house by giving them the blueprints for a boat.

I'm very glad that Alicia got back to us. I think it's amazing that she took the time to address the issue. I understand that sometimes you have to make sacrifices for your passions, like keeping this website running. But I'm not 100% satisfied with her response, nor am I satisfied with this particular sacrifice. I'm sure The Kind Life will continue to be a wonderful site for vegans and vegetarians, but for health-nuts like me, it has lost credibility.

I will, of course, continue to cherish my copy of The Kind Life.

One thing that's not been mentioned though about these type juices, is they are pasteurized and dead. So any vitamins or minerals are artificially added. :( And that's not good.

@Kim K, I really hope that this one post of some negative comments doesn't deter you from coming back or participating again in conversation. If you aren't big on internet comments, the negativity here is nothing compared to other sites. People tend to get a little more confident and ballsy when you can't see their face behind the keyboard. I didn't read every comment, but from what I read, most people were just confused and concerned of the direction this website has taken with this singular post. I feel that is 100% appropriate because so many people have used The Kind Life as a Bible. This book changed their lives and they've put SO much of their hearts into what Alicia has succeeded in. They've likely got into some heated arguments with friends and families over lifestyle choices and used Alicia as a resource. One might feel that this is a bit of a slap in the face because now the some (or one ) of the ideas and companies and foods they've been fighting against are now being supported. Just take a second and see it from that perspective. Now, everyone responding negatively should also take a second and see from the perspective of Alicia, especially since she took the time to respond and clear up some of the issues.
If anything, the post proves that not everyone is perfect, even the one who wrote the book. And more importantly, we shouldn't strive for perfection, but to just do the best we can every day. And some days, that might be drinking Trop 50 instead of juicing.
I'm relatively new to commenting on this site, but the discussions I've had have been great. No one wants to come across as an extremist, but just understand the surprise and confusion that many people have experienced over this.

This was quite a surprise, as I've never seen any sponsored posts from Alicia. Although, maybe I have but they were much more in her voice than this post so it was less obvious that I was being "sold" a product.
I very much appreciate that Alicia took the time to respond to everyone's concerns. And I can also appreciate that sponsors from big companies certainly help financially, but I still agree with everyone else that there are better companies out there that can offer you the financial support without the comprise of a truly healthy product.
At the same time, I'm happy to see myself and all of us confused and concerned. It shows us what we learned and that we can't be tricked by these types of products being sold to us as "healthy".

That's why this post was such a surprise, after all! :) You do an excellent job, and with today's economy there are surely many people who appreciate your effort to bring something affordable and vegan to their attention.
Certainly, none of us are perfect and we all have to make concessions here and there, sometimes not even being aware of it.

Ok, I would never leave the Kind Life. I absolutely love the community and the book, which has changed my life for the better beyond belief. Also I CAN’T WAIT for Kind Mama to come out! But, if Tropicana is owned by PepsiCo who went to great expense to prevent proposition 37 in California, I don't understand why the Kind Life would accept them as a sponsor.

I just signed up to comment on this post! Thanks for your direct reply, Alicia! I can understand why a big sponsor like Tropicana is needed, and how details of vegan vs. non-vegan ingredients are easy enough to overlook. Just showing that you moved quickly in getting the non-vegan version down shows how much you care, although that's never been a doubt of mine when taking into account your tireless work on this ongoing project. Don't fret... your dedication and passion does not go unnoticed! :)

I would never intentionally put something up on the site that wasn't vegan. I have had such strict guidelines for my Kind Life team for the past three years that I have come to assume that everything they bring me is 100% vegan. I was moving too quickly in this case as I didn't even notice anything about Vitamin D. If I had, I would have checked to see that it was D2 and not D3. So I appreciate you all letting me know and of course I have asked to remove that part from our sponsor.

That said, not all of the sponsors that we have here can be non-GMO, fair trade, organic, and made in America all at the same time. Sadly,The kindest, purest companies usually can't help us keep our lights on.  We have many many kind lifers who are flirts and new to this lifestyle (after all, that's who we want to bring in... the newbies) and I wanted to include a product that is accessible and might be able to provide them with something kinder or healthier than the choices they're making.

If you're driving a car, you're using gas. And we don't like gas. Is your car made in America? Where does it come from? If not, who are you supporting? But many of us need to drive, so we make the best decisions possible.

I drank Tropicana as a kid and loved it so when I had the opportunity for them to be a sponsor, I thought, "Yay! Vegan and mainstream! This will be good for our flirts and people on a budget and such." And for some people I know, this would be an improvement to what is in their fridge! So I think that is a good thing… minus the "No Pulp Calcium + Vitamin D". For which, I truly apologize to the cows and I hope they forgive me. Though, I think they know how much I fight for them on a daily basis. So I'm thinkin' the cows and me are alright and they are not mad at me.

I hope that if you visit the site regularly, you'll agree that we get it right far more often than we make errors, and you'll ask me to be no more perfect than you can be yourself.

This is my true passion and I don't want to ever support a non-vegan product.

Is this a joke? It seems like a joke. Or the site got hacked. I can't imagine this is for real.

In all due fairness..this is an alternate interest to Alecia's profession which is acting, and she performs that relativly well ( not easy to pretend to be someone else and actually get away with it ). Personally I love movies. Back to the issue at hand.....due to the lack of any response, one has to question whether Alicia is really interested in those who participate, or whether "The Kind Life" is meant to produce profit. No problem with that as long as the goal remains within the parameters of the intent of the site, and that is a vegetarian intake. Honestly...I do not follow such a strict limit of food. We, as humans, would do much better to get back to preparing meals at home ( male and female as the circumstances require )instead of McDonalds,Burger King (there's a joke), Wendy's, Harvey's - in Canada, and all the other "ultra processed" so called foods. I sincerely hope there is some response from Alecia, or whomever controls this site, to the critisism of the men and women who have shared their opinions on this subject.
