PCRM is by far my favorite organization. Being scientists and doctors, they are especially effective and influential. They are determined to end human and animal suffering. They look for the truth. They say no to the cruel practices that are taught in school and by society and search for compassionate solutions, not just easy ways to cut costs.
I have worked with PCRM for more years than I can remember - maybe 12 years now! I love them! If you aren't familiar with PCRM, check them out - and if you know anyone who is ill with diabetes or cancer, (or anything else), check out their programs and information on those conditions.
I love PCRM and of course my dear hero, Dr. Neal Barnard, as well as all of the wonderful doctors and scientists at PCRM - you are all my heroes! If you have any concerns whatsoever about your health or whether or not you are doing the right thing for your health, PCRM has an amazing team of doctors who can answer any of your questions.

"Adopt a Model" was a skit...a joke...not real!! It was a late night spoof to make people laugh done by two great comedians whose job is to.........wait for it...................make people laugh!!!! Please tell me you didn't really think there was a program to " to give a reliable source of food and care to a model or actress that we love and who is in in need". And even if there was do you really think it would be more worthy than contributing to an organization who's sole purpose is to end the suffering of animals resulting in amazing benefits for our planet? I'm happy you believe in the organizations trying to save our planet. Get involved, go to gatherings, donate what you can. Hey, you might meet a model in need to take care of! Just saying......

PCRM Rocks!! I've posted on my Facebook page in hopes to raise awareness! The love for animals and our planet is very dear to me. Everyday I try to educate or spread even the smallest bit of information to someone who may not have thought twice of their actions. I only wish I could so much more.

Dont fight, Dont Kill, dont punish, dont Dis-troy, and take advantage of one another. Stop what your doing, and consider what is the right turm for our real life and real animals.

In response to the caveman talk above (great one by the way), I think the key thing is to thing 'nature'. Do we find fats with sugar and white flour etc....all combined in nature? No. I used to read and re-read these old nutritional books by Paul C.Bragg and he would expound again and again on staying natural in everything you do. The more you've mixed, heated, altered something before it reaches your mouth, it's likely the less nutrients will be available to you. This makes sense, but we've lost touch with this simple lesson. If we began to view simple, natural foods as the amazing gifts they are, we may not have as many problems with self control and the like - we would just choose better.

As a Kind Lifer and a medical professional, I've supported PCRM for almost two decades. We need more of us in the medical community to become aware - too many doctors still don't care, and too many of us are too overworked to pay attention to their message... Something has to change at the financial level to wake people up.

HI Roy. Cavepeople weren't eating processed sugar and olive oil - they were eating fruits and nuts. And Dr. Barnard does go on to say it's not processed sugar in and of itself that is terrible, though to a certain extent that's true, but the amount people consumed simply because it is in everything.Combine sugar, salt, and fat in a product, and a person is likely to want more.
Some references as you asked - take a look at PCRM's site. Try reading The China Study. The Gerson Miracle and The Beautiful Truth talk about the effects of a vegan (not vegetarian) diet on cancer. How to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, The Engine 2 Diet has some basic health info about using veganism to lower cholesterol. Type 2 diabetes can be lessened or reversed on a plant-based diet. Look at vegsource.com. Youtube has tons of videos with T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Barnard, and others speaking, as well as testimonials of those who have experienced the amazing health benefits of a plant-based diet. There is a lot of information out there. I'm sure others have more, I haven't even listed all of mine, but it's a start. The China Study is a favorite for many on here. Have you read The Kind Diet yet?

I love PCRM too! I have found some really helpful advice about raising children vegan there. They have a daily food plan of what a child of a certain age should be eating, and they also have a great "vegetarian starter kit" booklet (it's vegan) with lots of info of how to make the switch and with facts about the nutrients our bodies need and where to get them. I also love the work that PCRM does with regards to putting an end to experimentation on animals. Now these are the doctors and scientists that I admire! I'm glad that you mentioned this resource! It is such a great one:)

Roy, I totally agree with you. Storing of fats for winter is actually not a bad thing. There is a valid reason why humans have not really evolved much since caveman times. It's actually the most ideal ways for our bodies to deal with life. If you consider the current economic climate I can certainly see people cutting costs by changing how we eat and lowering electric bills. Being winter now as people are lowering the temperatures on the thermostats, the extra body layers will be helpful this time of year. As poeple are eating less to cut costs, having the extra storage we had been toting around and hating is actually good right about now.
There is a very good reason our bodies haven't evolved any further with regards to how we handle our dietary intake.
The problem lies in our self control. I am probably one of the few people I know with insanely good self control. I can go to a cocktail party and just have 1 drink or even 1/2 a drink if I'm the designated driver and not even thing twice about it. I can easily go to a pot luck and stick to "just a salad" and avoid the dessert table altogether. I will walk by it and see everything there and have just a bite or two. I love regular soda, but I also love a good strong herbal tea, iced, without sweetener. It's easier for me to grab a soda can from the vending machine, and I enjoy the soda more, but I know at the end of the day the unsweetened non-caffienated tea is better for me and I will opt for that over the soda if I think about the 2 and had the 2 already made up side by side.
The problem isn't really that our bodies aren't ready for the 21st century, it's that we cavepeople cave in to temptation far too often. Moderation is the enemy here, NOT how we have evolved over time. Obviously celery with nut butters is so much better than just plain celery. But I can eat all I want of the plain stuff!

sugar is as addictive as heroin? references? blimey!. I read that fats are too, it wouldn't surprise me to find that humans have evolved to get a natural "high" (dopamine made by the brain etc) from these foods because when we were cavepeople, eating fats and sugars would be a useful and simple source of stored energy, especially for the winter months.
I'm not sure I get why this is a bad thing?
I can see that an excess of most things is a bad thing, but surely this means the problem isn't in the sugar, or fat or whatever, but in the person's ability to deal with eating too much of it? If we're evolved only as far as cavepeople were, (more or less accurate) then our bodies are primed to deal with those types of foods in limited amounts, and yet we're surrounded by shops and advertising and cheapness, that would test the self control of even Bapu himself.

Alicia thanks so much for providing so many incredible resources. I am learing so much each week. It is good to have a place to come to. I find many of my dear friends become quite agitated just at the "thought" that when we are together I look for or ask the waiters for veggie options. The Kind Life rouses a lot of unkind reactions. :-)

Hi, I'd love to know how being a vegetarian heals diabetes and cancer and so on. Any references and stuff please? Cheers loads.

The Kick Starts, the comraderie in that, the fab recipes, the activism, the wisdom, the info...oh my gosh! I love PCRM too, that's what it come down to! :)
